Does anyone else feel this should go for adds on the Hot AC chart? I think it would be a solid there. The song is amazing in my humble opinion :)

Personally, I feel this SHOULD become a hit there. It's one of their most accessible, crossover-friendly singles of their career to date, both musically and lyrically.
Then again, there's just no guarantee stamped on the song it will live up to "Drive" commerically. After all, "Warning" was crossover-friendly, in my opinion, and did nothing outside their chief format. And though I can understand how the lyrics to this single were too bizarre for Top 40 to comprehend, musically "Talk Shows On Mute" was very radio-friendly.
"Light Grenades" has more Top 40-friendly singles than any other album they've released to date. "Love Hurts" and to a lesser extent "Diamonds And Coal" are also potential crossover hit candidates, so they unquestionably have the right songs. The real question is, does their label have the will?
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

That's weird cause I don't think "Drive" is that Top 40 friendly. It's weird how that song was so successful. I think "Wish You Were Here" should've been a bigger hit than "Drive" because that has more of a pop sound. Then again, I'm no expert ;)

I'm surprised "Wish You Were Here" didn't do anything at either Hot AC or Pop. I thought it was more radio-friendly than "Drive." I'm just now starting to get into this song, but I think I'll end up really liking it! I hope it's sent to Hot AC.

I think "Wish You Were Here" should've been a bigger hit than "Drive" because that has more of a pop sound. Then again, I'm no expert ;) That's exactly what I've been wondering all this while. "Drive" just kind of drags at the same tempo musically from beginning to end, and even the chorus is lazy-sounding and feels kind of spacey. Lyrically it may be one of their more accessible songs, but even there I can't imagine how that would single-handedly make up for the song's dragging musically. I can't explain how "Drive" became the mega-hit it is. It certainly also won't make sense to me if this song bombs, unless of course the label does squat promoting it, which they just might do unfortuantely considering how promotion of "A Crow Left Of The Murder" ended abruptly after they scored their second consecutive Top 5 hit from the album on the Alternative format, and had plenty of radio-friendly material to work with from there, especially "Agoraphobia" and "Southern Girl". Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I always thought "Drive" and "Wish You Were Here" were really annoying. This is like a nice middle.

I don't believe so, although I didn't follow the charts as closely back in late 2001.

I'm surprised stations now don't play any of their other songs since they seem to fit the Hot AC style now.

It's really strange that they sent this to Pop and not Hot AC. I think it's more suited to the latter format if anything.

A handful of Hot AC stations are playing it - so far, only the Alternative station in my market - seems like it'll catch on
1 Augustana - Boston 2 Daughtry - Home 3 Maroon 5 - Makes Me Wonder 4 Rob Thomas - Little Wonders 5 Mat Kearney - Undeniable 6 Snow Patrol - Signal Fire 7 Incubus - Dig 8 Rocco DeLuca & the Burden - Colorful 9 Dashboard Confessional - Stolen 10 Lifehouse - First Time

This has dented the Top 30 for the first time today.
Whether it goes any further will depend on if other markets catch on, and if the label provides any promotional muscle to this should-be smash.
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Do they lean more towards Alternative than they do pop?

I remember when this song went for "Smash Or Trash" (new music callout) on local Hot AC station - got a lot of resistence from more conservative, less Alternative Hot AC listeners - unfortunalely, think it will stay confined to the Modern AC-type stations, and Alternative stations than lean Hot AC - hope I'm wrong

There are alternative stations that lean towards Hot AC? I'd like to hear one of those stations.
