I don't get this. Why is Hot AC playing such a rhythmic song?

I don't get this. Why is Hot AC playing such a rhythmic song? It's only 19 stations out of 100 There's a block of stations that play CHR tracks mixed with Hot AC recurrents, and report to the Hot AC panel

The format is evolving and is opening itself up to playing more rhythmic songs. I'm not saying hot AC should be wide open to everything, but Usher is a known name and it's probably what's helping him there.

I know what you mean, but there are a bunch of HAC stations (about 19 lol) that basically take the CHR Top 10 and use it as the core of their HAC playlist Don't think it has much to do with Usher as an artist or the evolution of a format - just misplaced/miscategorized CHRs reporting to the Hot AC panel

^I just don't get though why people are talking about the evolution of the Hot AC format to include Usher and Eminem
If even half the panel were playing them, then yeah I'd say the format was evolving, or that Usher was like the Michael Jackson of the 2010s, but it's only 19 stations out of 100 - IMO they're just classified wrong, just like about 15 stations on the CHR panel that are really Hot ACs

I don't get this. Why is Hot AC playing such a rhythmic song? I actually don't mind hearing this song on this format. It's the kind of dance song adults would like. It also debuted at #37 on the Rick Dees Hot AC chart this week which reflects this fact. However, my gripe lies within another issue. Most, if not all Hot AC's that would have played a song like this about five or six years ago would have played an edited "Hot AC" version without the Pitbull rap in the middle. But the rap version is now being played on many of those misclassified CHR leaning Hot AC stations, as Atlantaboy has made mention of many times. As I said, I don't mind this song on the Hot AC format at all. But I don't need to hear the rap version of one fifth of the playlist being played on my local Hot AC station as they do in Chicago. If I want to hear rap I can go and listen to B-96 or my local CC Kiss station. I hear the same excuses all the time that Hot AC listeners grew up with rap and would not mind listening to rap on their local Hot AC stations. While maybe true for some listeners, I beg to disagree here. Many Hot AC listeners listen to Hot AC radio because they outgrow rap. So I find it misguided when people make a blanket statement saying rap is fine on an adult music format just because they grew up with it. People's tastes change and mature with time, and many are looking for formats and stations that steer away from this type of music. I don't know, but maybe that's what the mainstream AC format will be for in the future. That is, this will be the format that will play the best current music without the rap. But I thought that was what the Hot AC format was supposed to be for.

This is now #22 on Hot AC, and it's being played on 47 stations (almost half the panel) - I guess the format is evolving (looks like I was majorly wrong) 25 22 USHER F/ PITBULL DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love 1017 882 135 I'm wondering if this is really just a more HAC-friendly song than his previous hits, or if it's purely the evolution of a format, in which case HACs should be going back and playing Yeah, OMG, You Make Me Wanna..., U Got It Bad, etc. Thinking about it, I kinda think that Usher has a different sound now than he did on his previous CDs - this track is really pop/dance, while older tracks like Yeah sound really hip-hop, and tracks like U Remind Me and U Got It Bad sound really R&B So maybe it's just a case where dance-pop gets higher callout on Hot AC than pure hip-hop/R&B did - I guess there's not much difference in sound between this song and the Taio Cruz tracks that went Top 20

This is now Top 20, and on 63 stations - do you guys think this track is more HAC-friendly than past Usher songs?

They just added "OMG!" as a recurrent! "DJ" is a good song for the format. "OMG!" is not. But they feel obligated to play it because it's Usher and he has been ignored up until now. My question though is that I though the Hot AC format was a artist driven format. Why then play garbage on a station if the artist in general does not fit on the format. "DJ" fits, but that's where they should have stopped.
