- As stated, Casey played the original album version of "Mr. Sandman" that also featured Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt; the single version has less-well-known back-up singers.
- This might be the first (and only?) time where the first Archive was as (naturally) late as following #30.
- Story behind "Hound Dog" as an Extra: Despite being so strongly associated with Elvis to the point of widespread belief that it had been written expressly for him, that was actually not the case. It had already been written three years earlier, and Big Mama Thornton took it to #1 on the Soul chart of that time.
- The following week, 5/2, would be hosted by Dave Roberts, but it's worth noting that that week would have a lot of crazy chart moves making The 40 look quite different compared to this week. Among these is the fact that of the 6 droppers, 4 of them went up one to hit their peak this week, the 5th was holding this week, and the 6th is, obviously, the 12-notch dropper.
- By the way...note the lack of significant falling songs in general, this week. The only other ones of real note besides that 12-notch dropper were the two in the Top 10!
- #1 on the Country chart: "A Headache Tomorrow" by Mickey Gilley
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Being With You"
- #1 on the Album chart: Hi Infidelity by REO Speedwagon

And some of that big chart action is VERY interesting indeed - like Bryan Adams leapfrogging both Irene Cara and Lionel Richie, and Duran Duran having the week's Biggest Mover, despite...peaking only three notches higher. :O
- But, if you pay close enough attention, you'll notice that he unintentionally spoils that there's a new #1 this week: At #13 he states that that's the only song in the entire top 40 to hold position.
- Another Casey anecdote can be found in the first LDD, making certain to point out that it wasn't coming from Ohio. ;)
- "Mexican Radio", as it turns out, was peaking this week.
- Overall, between the week's chart action, the songs in the countdown, and Casey's stories this week, you really don't get much better than this week's show. :)
- #1 on the Country chart: "You're the First Time I've Thought About Leaving" by Reba McEntire
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Atomic Dog" by George Clinton
- #1 on the Album chart: Thriller by Michael Jackson

Glad we got to hear "Mexican Radio" in the 1983 show. I don't think it's ever been played before on any of Casey's shows, including AT20 - Hot AC.

LOL, so too did I. WCRZ only played the Pat Benatar extra that time, and this time proved to be no different. The only real difference this time was a bigger commercial load, meaning the show ended on time instead of early.

NOTES: - This week's Station of the Week: Another new addition to the 80s family, WZMJ.
- Oddly, big ballad "Promise Me" received the standard jingle (though "Two Occasions" did not).
- Quite a few peaking songs this week, closer to a typical earlier-80s week than a later-80s one.
- Casey pointed out the unusual circumstance of "Shattered Dreams" slipping to #3 even though it hadn't yet lost its bullet on the Billboard chart.
- Also unusual: The story for the #1 song being the answer to a Question Letter. I've only heard this happen one other time, on 3-7-87 (which is hosted by Charlie Van Dyke).
- #1 on the Black Singles chart: "Mercedes Boy" by Pebbles
- #1 on the Dance chart: "Like a Child" by Noel
- #1 on the Album chart: Faith by George Michael
- #1 on the Country chart: "18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses" by Kathy Mattea

Hmmm. Any particular pattern to this? Or is it just flip-flopping back and forth between the two shows?

They're not an affiliate of either 70s or 80s as far as I know, but they also don't have an available schedule to find out for sure.
- Song played is in the brackets.
- Larry Morgan stated this was originally from May 30 rather than the 28th - but he also advertised this as a Memorial Day special, which is true as to this show's original intent, but also the 30th would've been Memorial Day in '88. Pretty sure it was up to stations' discretion as to when to air this if at all back then, also given that it was side-by-side with a regular countdown that weekend.
- Did this show originally begin with the 1984-87 theme opener, or was that a modern-day error left uncorrected? Incidentally, there were quite a few random sound bumpers throughout this show, including the one used for the Hour 1-3 closings and 2-4 opens.
- There were soundclips of Debbie herself at #38, of Jon Bon Jovi at #27, The Bangles at #17, Whitney at #5, Huey Lewis at #2, and Madonna at #1 - these would become a norm during the Shadoe Stevens era, but the ones in this show might have been the first (if not only?) time for it with Casey.
- Casey addressed the absences of acts like Bryan Adams, Pat Benatar, and Prince - they all charted (albeit briefly) in the 70s, Bryan with the group Sweeney Todd. Sheena Easton, on the other hand, doesn't fit this criteria, and her absence has been attributed to staff error in tabulating this.
- Wonder if this show was taped extra farther in advance? Casey introed "How Will I Know" as one of Whitney's six #1s.

It seems weird that George Michael/Wham are two separate entries and Belinda Carlisle/GoGo's are two separate entries but Sweeny Todd(70's)/Bryan Adams (80's) count as one

It's just that since Bryan charted with Sweeney Todd in the 70s, that means he charted at all prior to the 80s - thus, completely disqualifying him for the Newcomers list. As opposed to George, Wham, Belinda, and the Go-Gos, none of whom charted prior to the 80s in any way. There were soundclips of Debbie herself at #38, of Jon Bon Jovi at #27, The Bangles at #17, Whitney at #5, Huey Lewis at #2, and Madonna at #1 - these would become a norm during the Shadoe Stevens era, but the ones in this show might have been the first (if not only?) time for it with Casey. Missed the 1987 special when Premiere aired it since I was out of town all weekend with no way to catch it.

King "Stand By Me" from Michelle in Saginaw, MI to the members of U2, whose music and spiritual beliefs have provided inspiration for her, thus the reason why they've become her favorite band (who she also went to see in concert the night before writing in)26 29 Company B - Fascinated (21) 25 30 Level 42 - Lessons in Love (12) 24 10 Poison - Talk Dirty to Me (9) 23 23 Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al (23)22 24 Kenny G - Songbird (4) 21 21 David Bowie - Day-In, Day-Out (21)20 22 Smokey Robinson - Just to See Her (8) Flashback Extra: Motley Crue "Girls, Girls, Girls", which debuted at #68 that week19 09 Madonna - La Isla Bonita (4) 18 28 Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) (1) 17 18 Chicago - If She Would Have Been Faithful... (17)16 19 Kenny Loggins - Meet Me Halfway (11) 15 05 Cutting Crew - (I Just) Died in Your Arms (1) 14 17 Herb Alpert - Diamonds (5) 13 13 Glenn Medeiros - Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You (12) 12 02 Jody Watley - Looking For a New Love (2) 11 16 Genesis - In Too Deep (3) LDD: The Beatles "Let it Be" from Mike in Nova Scotia, Canada to the memory of his friend Rob, his childhood friend who he kept in contact with even after moving from Ontario to Nova Scotia, up until Rob was killed in a car accident back in January Flashback Extra: T'Pau "Heart and Soul", which was "a week away from hitting the countdown"10 14 Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead or Alive (7) 09 12 Huey Lewis & The News - I Know What I Like (9)08 06 Bryan Adams - Heat of the Night (6) 07 11 The Breakfast Club - Right On Track (7)06 15 Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam - Head to Toe (1) 05 07 Fleetwood Mac - Big Love (5)04 08 Atlantic Starr - Always (1) 03 03 Chris DeBurgh - The Lady in Red (3)Flashback Extra: Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine "Rhythm is Gonna Get You", which made the Hot Shot Debut that week at #6602 04 Kim Wilde - You Keep Me Hangin' On (1) 01 01 U2 - With Or Without You (1)And when seven come on, seven have to drop out. And those songs are: "Serious" (LW: 40), "What's Going On" (LW: 38), "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" (LW: 37), "Sign of the Times" (LW: 35), "I Knew You Were Waiting" (LW: 34), "Get That Love" (LW: 32), and "The Right Thing" (LW: 27). NOTES: - Casey pointed out that "Every Little Kiss" had already been released once the year before, but peaked at #72 then. He also pointed out that "Shakedown" was only in its second week on the Hot 100.
- Also worth noting (but not mentioned): "What's Going On" plummeted all the way to #81 this week. :O
- Footnote to the first LDD: The show called Michelle and asked the reason for picking "Stand By Me" - turns out that was the song playing over the PA before the show and as U2 were taking the stage. Bono promptly joined in singing the song with the audience.
- The other interesting thing about that LDD: It speaks to the show's production timeline. That concert tour's itinerary is listed on Wiki, and the Silverdome concert Michelle talked about going to happened exactly one month prior - April 30.
- Casey counted down the Top 10 sexiest pairs of eyes according to a survey result (didn't quite catch who surveyed).
- "Heat of the Night" was cut straight to two choruses after its first verse...rather oddly. The music flow made it sound pretty unnatural.
- Note the three songs all falling out of the Top 10 into the teens, all falling ten notches. Also note every odd-numbered song in the Top 10 peaking this week.
- The set-up for the brief story at #1 was a bit unusual, in that it had no teaser, and it didn't build off the #1s on Billboard's other charts (those were read before #2). Instead it seemed to be more like the "longer intro"-type brief stories sprinkled throughout the countdown. The other unusual part is that from what I can tell, this isn't usually done for #1 - usually there's either a teased story, or mainly an intro.
- #1 on the Country chart: "It Takes a Little Rain" by The Oak Ridge Boys
- #1 on the Album chart: The Joshua Tree by U2
- #1 on the Soul chart: "Head to Toe"
- #1 on the Dance chart: "Head to Toe"
