Adele falls out of the Top 10!
Billboard.com:
Trey Songz Gets First No. 1 Album on Billboard 200
Trey Songz finally nabs his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart as "Chapter V" bows atop the list with 135,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan.
It's the R&B singer's fifth full-length studio album and follows 2010's "Passion, Pain & Pleasure," which debuted and peaked at No. 2 with 240,000. It was beaten to the pole position that week -- just barely -- by Linkin Park's also-debuting "A Thousand Suns." The latter set started with just 1,000 copies more -- 241,000.
Each of Songz's albums have peaked progressively higher on the Billboard 200, culminating in his first No. 1 this week. His debut set, 2005's "I Gotta Make It," topped out at No. 20 and it was followed by 2007's "Trey Day," which hit No. 11. Then "Ready" reached No. 3 in 2009 and of course, "Passion" claimed the No. 2 slot.
So far, "Chapter V" has collected a pair of top 10 singles on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in "Heart Attack" (No. 3) and "2 Reasons" (No. 8).
"Chapter V" is the first of four debuts in the top 10 this week on the Billboard 200, as DJ Khaled's "Kiss the Ring" is the tally's second-biggest arrival. The set starts at No. 4 with 41,000 -- Khaled's seventh chart hit and fourth top 10 overall. His last release, 2011's "We the Best Forever," debuted and peaked at No. 5 with 53,000 sold in its first week.
Owl City's "The Midsummer Station" starts at No. 7 with 30,000 -- marking the act's third top 10 set. The album's current single, "Good Time" (with Carly Rae Jepsen), has been percolating in the top 15 of the Billboard Hot 100 for the past month.
Owl City's last full-length set, 2011's "All Things Bright and Beautiful," debuted and peaked at No. 6 with a 48,000 start. However, the album only spent nine weeks on the tally -- a meager total compared to the 56 frames the act's debut album "Ocean Eyes," spent on the list. ("Ocean" was fueled by the No. 1 Hot 100 single "Fireflies.") It's probably safe to suspect that the new album could have a longer shelf life than "All Things" on the chart, thanks to the popularity of his Jepsen collaboration.
Downloads made up 72% of Owl City's first week, as compared to the 38% they accounted for Songz's debut. That's not terribly surprising, as digital sales amounted to 48% of the total sales of Owl City's last album, versus 16% for Songz's "Passion, Pain & Pleasure."
Christian band Tenth Avenue North is the final debut in the top 10 this week, as the group's "The Struggle" arrives at a career-high No. 9 with 26,000 (a weekly sales peak for the act). Over on the Top Christian Albums chart, the set bows at No. 1 -- the group's second leader on that tally.
As for the rest of the top 10 this week, 2 Chainz's "Based on a T.R.U. Story" falls 1-2 with 48,000 (down 67%) and the "Now 43" compilation drops 2-3 with 45,000 (down 40%). Justin Bieber's "Believe" climbs 6-5 (32,000; down 7%) and Maroon 5's "Overexposed" slips 5-6 (just under 32,000; down 11%). Rick Ross' "God Forgives, I Don't" slides 3-8 (28,000; down 36%) and One Direction's "Up All Night" descends 7-10 (25,000; down 15%).
If you haven't seen her name yet, that must mean Adele's "21" has slipped out of the top 10 for the first time in its 79 week chart run. This week, the album falls 8-12 with 24,000 (down 9%). The set debuted at No. 1 on the chart dated March 12, 2011 and spent its first 78 frames within the top 10, and is tied with Def Leppard's "Hysteria" and Michael Jackson's "Thriller" for the third-longest run in the top 10 since 1963 (when our mono and stereo album charts combined into one tally). Only Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the U.S.A." (84 weeks) and "The Sound of Music" (109) soundtrack logged longer top 10 runs.
"21's" vacation from the top 10 may be temporary -- it could easily return to the region next week. Though, once we get into the thick of September, when a bevy of superstar releases are due out, it might be harder for the album to stick around the top 10. The set's fourth and final single, "Rumour Has It," holds at No. 4 (its peak) on the Adult Contemporary airplay chart this week. It peaked at No. 16 on the Hot 100 in May.
Over on the Digital Songs chart, Taylor Swift rests at No. 1 for a second week with "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," selling 307,000 downloads (down 51%). A second-week drop from its whopping 623,000-start was likely inevitable, but the 307,000 figure is still one of the 20 biggest sales weeks of 2012.
Maroon 5's "One More Night" skips 4-2 with 195,000 (up 15%), Flo Rida's "Whistle" drops 2-3 with 180,000 (down 10%) and fun.'s "Some Nights" slips 3-4 with 169,000 (down 7%).
Owl City & Carly Rae Jepsen's "Good Time" rises 8-5 with 144,000 (up 13%) while Justin Bieber's "As Long As You Love Me" (featuring Big Sean) holds at No. 6 with 144,000 (up 13%). Jepsen's own "Call Me Maybe" is also steady at No. 7 with 122,000 (down 10%) while Phillip Phillips' "Home" is down 5-8 with 109,000 (down 33%).
Cher Lloyd's "Want U Back" is stationary at No. 9 with 107,000 (down 14%) while Neon Trees hit the top 10 for the first time, as "Everybody Talks" jumps 15-10 with 99,000 (up 10%). For the latter tune, it also breaks into the top 10 on the Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart (aka Pop Songs on Billboard.com), rising 11-8.
Overall album sales in this past chart week (ending Aug. 26) totaled 5.04 million units, down 4% compared with the sum last week (5.25 million) and down 2% compared with the comparable sales week of 2011 (5.14 million). Year-to-date album sales stand at 192.52 million, down 4% compared with the same total at this point last year (199.92 million)
Digital track sales this past week totaled 23.51 million downloads, down 5% compared with last week (24.77 million) and up 5% stacked next to the comparable week of 2011 (22.44 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 893.71 million, up 6% compared with the same total at this point last year (845.91 million).
Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2011 when: Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" blasted onto the chart at No. 1 with 964,000 sold. Red Hot Chili Peppers' "I'm With You" bowed in the runner-up slot with 229,000.

Week Ending Aug. 26, 2012. Albums: Adele Finally Exits Top 10 By Paul Grein | Chart Watch – 8 minutes ago
This week, for the first time since it was released in February 2011, Adele's 21 does not rank among the top 10 albums on The Billboard 200. It drops from #8 to #12, ending (at least for now) a 78-week run in the top 10. 21 is one of only five albums to log 78 or more weeks in the top 10 since 1963, when Billboard merged its separate stereo and mono charts into one comprehensive listing. The others are The Sound Of Music soundtrack (109 weeks), Bruce Springsteen's Born In The U.S.A. (84 weeks), Michael Jackson's Thriller (78 weeks) and Def Leppard's Hysteria (78 weeks).
Much has happened in the pop world since 21 was released. Amy Winehouse (whose success paved the way for Adele) died, as did Whitney Houston, Donna Summer, Robin Gibb and Adam Yauch of Beastie Boys. Justin Bieber and Chris Brown both released two #1 albums. One Direction and 2Chainz debuted. Lionel Richie made an improbable comeback. Katy Perry tied Michael Jackson's record for most #1 hits from one album. American Idol crowned two more winners, Scotty McCreery and Phillip Phillips. The Voice debuted and stole some of Idol's thunder. Maroon 5 got its second wind. The Beatles finally went digital.
21 has sold 9,736,000 copies in the U.S., which makes it the 22nd best-selling album since 1991, when Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales for Billboard. Among albums released in the past 10 years, it's second only to Usher's Confessions (10,108,000). The three biggest hits from 21, "Rolling In The Deep," "Someone Like You" and "Set Fire To The Rain," have sold a combined total of 16,705,000 copies. Adele's music video, Live At The Royal Albert Hall, has sold 955K copies.
Adele and Julie Andrews, the star of the aforementioned The Sound Of Music, have a fair amount in common. Both women were born in England. Both achieved tremendous success at a young age. Adele was 22 in February 2011 when 21 became her first #1 album. Andrews was just 20 in July 1956 when the Broadway cast album to My Fair Lady became her first #1 album. In 2000, Andrews was named a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Will Adele one day follow suit? Time will tell, but she's off to a good start.
I'm not sure how Trey Songz is going to react to this week's chart news. His new album, Chapter V, enters The Billboard 200 at #1, becoming his first #1 album. The hitch? The album sold 135K copies, a substantial drop from the 240K opening of his last album, Passion, Pain & Pleasure in September 2010. That album missed out on the #1 spot by just a hair over 1,000 copies (Linkin Park's A Thousand Suns edged it out). This time around, it wasn't even close: Chapter V sold nearly three times as many copies as this week's #2 album.
Songz' sales tally includes 51K digital copies, which puts it at #1 on Top Digital Albums. This is the second album titled Chapter V to reach #1. A Staind album with that same title debuted at #1 in August 2005. This marks the first time that a recycled album title has reached #1 since Adele's 21 hit the top in February 2011. Omarion had reached #1 with an album by that title in December 2006.
Each of Songz' five albums has climbed higher on the chart than the one before it, a neat trick. His 2005 debut I Gotta Make It reached #20. His 2007 follow-up Trey Day hit #11. Ready reached #3 in 2009. Passion, Pain & Pleasure hit #2 in 2010. And now Chapter V is #1. DJ Khaled's Kiss The Ring debuts at #4. It's the rapper's fourth top 10 album, following We The Best (#8 in 2008), We Global (#7 in 2008) and We The Best Forever (#5 in 2011). DJ Khaled has more top 10 albums than any other act whose name begins with the phrase "DJ." DJ Clue? is in second place, with two top 10 albums. DJ Quik and D.J. Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince each had one.
Incidentally, between DJ Khaled's showy ring and 2 Chainz' gold chains, there's a lot of bling on the covers of this week's top 10 albums.
Owl City's The Midsummer Station debuts at #7. It's the pop artist's third top 10 album. The album includes "Good Time," his collabo with Carly Rae Jepsen that cracks the top five on this week's Hot Digital Songs chart…Tenth Avenue North's The Struggle debuts at #9. This is the first top 10 album for the Contemporary Christian band. The Light Meets The Dark reached #15 in 2010.
I'm sure you know that last week Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" broke a record formerly held by Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" for the largest first-week digital sales for a song by female artist. Swift's song sold 623K in its first week, compared to 448K for "Born This Way." But the saga doesn't end after just one week. Sales of Gaga's song actually increased in Week 2 (jumping by 14%), while sales of Swift's song dropped by 51%. In the first two weeks combined, "Born This Way" sold 957K, compared to 930K for Swift's hit. So Gaga remains ahead if you look at the first two weeks, rather than just the first week. (Both songs trail Flo Rida's "Right Round," which sold a record 1,096,000 copies in its first two weeks.) Will Swift hold on to the top spot on the Hot 100? You'll find out later today when we post Chart Watch: Songs.
Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 albums.
The Top Five: Trey Songz's Chapter V debuts at #1 (135K). This is his third top five album… 2 Chainz' Based On A T.R.U. Story dips from #1 to #2 in its second week (48K)…Now 43 dips from #2 to #3 in its third week (45K)…DJ Khaled's Kiss The Ring debuts at #4 (41K). It's the rapper's fourth top 10 album… Justin Bieber's Believe rebounds from #6 to #5 in its 10th week (32K). It has been in the top 10 the entire time.
The Second Five: Maroon 5's Overexposed dips from #5 to #6 in its ninth week (32K). This is its eighth week in the top 10…Owl City's The Midsummer Station debuts at #7 (30K). It's the pop artist's third top 10 album…Rick Ross' God Forgives, I Don't drops from #3 to #8 in its fourth week (28K).…Tenth Avenue North's The Struggle debuts at #9 (26K). This is the Contemporary Christian band's first top 10 album… One Direction's Up All Night drops from #7 to #10 in its 24th week (25K). This is its 23rd week in the top 10.
Three albums besides Adele's 21 drop out of the top 10 this week. Insane Clown Posse's Mighty Death Pop dives from #4 to #35, Zac Brown Band's Uncaged drops from #9 to #16, Yellowcard's Southern Air plummets from #10 to #76. (Sales of the latter album dove by 79%, from 23K last week to 5K this week. This week, the title should be Gasping For Air.)
Dustin Lynch's debut album Dustin Lynch debuts at #13. It bows at #1 on Top Country Albums. It's the first debut album to enter the country chart at #1 since Scotty McCreery's Clear As Day in October 2011, about four months after he won Season 10 of American Idol. Lynch's "Cowboys And Angels" is just outside the top 10 on Hot Country Songs.
Lynyrd Skynyrd's Last Of A Dyin' Breed debuts at #14. The Southern rock band first cracked the top 20 in October 1974 with Second Helping (the album that included "Sweet Home Alabama"). The band had three top 10 albums from 1975 to 1977…Dispatch's Circles Around The Sun debuts at #24.
The Sparkle soundtrack drops from #21 to #25 in its fourth week. It's #1 on Top Soundtracks for the fourth week. The soundtrack from the original Sparkle was the top-ranking soundtrack for 20 weeks in 1976. Aretha Franklin, who sang the songs in the original movie, and Whitney Houston, who sings two numbers in the reboot, recorded a duet in 1989: "It Isn't, It Wasn't, It Ain't Never Gonna Be." The song peaked at #41 on the Hot 100, a disappointing showing given the name power involved. The song was from Franklin's album Through The Storm.
Bob Marley & the Wailers' 1984 smash Legend drops from #18 to #26 in its 237th week on the chart. This is its 113rd week at #1 on Top Catalog Albums since 1991, when Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales for Billboard. It's the first time that Legend has spent two consecutive weeks at #1 since January 2008. Legend was released during the Jacksons' Victory Tour; about six weeks before the first VMA Awards were presented on MTV.
Emeli Sande's Our Version Of Events logs its fifth week at #1 on The Official U.K. chart, which ties Adele's 21 for the most weeks on top there so far in 2012. Sande's album is just 6K copies behind 21 as the best-selling album in the U.K. so far this year. It has sold nearly 647K copies since its release in February. 21 has sold 653K so far this year. Our Version Of Events debuted and peaked at #28 on The Billboard 200 in June. It has sold 45K copies in the U.S.
One Direction's Up All Night: The Live Tour is #1 on Top Music Videos for the 13th week. The DVD sold 9K copies this week, bringing its 13-week total to 276K.
The Expendables 2 was #1 at the box-office for the second straight weekend. The original Expendables movie was #1 for two weekends in August 2010.
Coming Attractions: Slaughterhouse's Welcome To: Our House is expected to be among next week's top new entries. Also due: Alanis Morissette's Havoc And Bright Lights, Toby Mac's Eye On It and Dwele's Greater Than One.

It was bound to happen eventually :/ But hopefully it can get back in the top 10 next week and break that tie for third place :) Who's record did she beat for the most consecutive weeks in the top 10 without falling out?

Anyone know where Yellowcards drop of 79% put them on list of all time biggest drops? I think that list was provided in the Madonna thread before, but I guess I can look there. I need to do a better job of saving lists on my computer, for future reference.

I did not realize Linkin Park's last 2 #1 albums both won by only about a 1k margin.

Anyone know when will HITS publish their report for next week's chart?

^You should be asking in the HITS thread.
It's different each week.
This week is a weak release week so the estimates could be very late.

^That's not the all-time/SoundScan-era list- I believe that's just for albums in Billboard's 2012 chart year. Although the only notable one missing is Born This Way.
From Billboard.com:
Here are the five largest second-week percentage drops for No. 1-debuting albums in the SoundScan era:
Chart Date - Artist - Title - % Decline - Debut Units - 2nd Week Units
1. April 21, 2012 - Madonna, "MDNA" - 86.70% (from 359,000 to 48,000 at No. 8) 2. June 18, 2011 - Lady Gaga, "Born This Way" - 84.28% (from 1.11 million to 174,000 at No. 1) 3. Dec. 3, 2011 - Mac Miller, "Blue Slide Park" - 82.54% (from 144,000 to 25,000 at No. 24) 4. Dec. 16, 2006 - Jay-Z, "Kingdom Come" - 79.42% (from 680,000 to 140,000 at No. 6) 5. Dec. 11, 2010 - Kanye West, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" - 78.14% (from 496,000 to 108,000 at No. 7)

Mandisa is a stealth Idol success story. On her third studio album and it's going to outsell her first one which is pretty rare for an Idol alum.

Chart Moves: Kelly Clarkson's 'Stronger' Album Makes Best Buy-Fueled Gain on Billboard 200, Kiss' 'Destroyer' Returns The Billboard 200: Trey Songz nabbed his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart this week with "Chapter V," as the singer's fifth studio set bowed with 135,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan. It was one of four debuts in the top 10, which also saw entries from DJ Khaled, Owl City and Tenth Avenue North. But now, let's take a look at some of the other movers and shakers on the Billboard 200 and elsewhere on our album charts: -- Kelly Clarkson: The singer's "Stronger" jumps 35-19 on the Billboard 200, with 15,000 sold -- a handsome gain of 44% compared to its previous week's sales. The title earns its best sales week and highest rank on the chart since April thanks to sale pricing at Target for $6.99 while BestBuy.com also got in on the discount action. The latter retailer's web site promoted "Stronger's" physical CD as a one-day only deal for $4.99 on Aug. 20 -- including free shipping. In terms of CD purchases made via Internet, the album had a 442% gain -- moving from less than 1,000 copies to nearly 3,000 last week. That's a huge sales figure for such an old title, and marks its best sales week in terms of physical Internet sales since the week ending Dec. 18, 2011 (just under 3,000). Lately, retailers Best Buy and Target have been marking down select physical CDs to a consumer cost of anywhere between $3.99 to $6.99. Last week, Best Buy priced and promoted Karmin's "Hello" and Lionel Richie's "Tuskegee" for $5.99 and catalog sets from No Doubt, Bob Seger and Dave Matthews Band (among others) for $3.99. Over at Target, it sold Maroon 5's "Overexposed" and Drake's "Take Care" for $6.99. The week previous, Best Buy had everything from Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" to Justin Bieber's "Believe" marked down to $5.99. -- Train: Two of the band's albums on the chart earn gains after their "Today" show performance on Aug. 24. "California 37" motors from No. 44 to No. 32 with a 42% sales increase while "Save Me, San Francisco" re-enters at No. 158 (up 44%). -- Kiss: As physical stock of the remastered reissue of "Destroyer" arrived to retail last week, the set bounds back onto the list at No. 58 with 7,000 (up 629%). It briefly returned to the tally dated Aug. 18 (No. 138) when the digital reissue launched. Vintage vinyl fans turned out too, as the album debuts at No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums chart with 1,000 sold. -- The Darkness: Returning for the first time since December 2005, the band's new "Fragrant World" arrives at No. 44 with 9,000 sold. The set beats the peak of its last offering "One Way Ticket to Hell. . .And Back" (No. 58) but not its sales start (26,000) -- Chris Tomlin: His "And If Our God Is For Us. . ." album re-enters the chart (No. 68) for the third time this year, as a $5 discount at Lifeway prompts its 375% gain. It also returned for one-week stays on May 26 and Aug. 4 after limited-time promotions. -- Tyga: Best Buy lifts "Carless World: Rise of the Last King" by 13% (77-69) after the retailer offered it for $5.99 last week. With just over 6,000 sold, it is the album's best sales frame since June 2. -- Yellowcard: The band's "Southern Air" drops from No. 10 to No. 89 in its second week -- a fall of 79 positions. It's the fourth-largest fall out of the top 10 so far in 2012. The biggest goes to Bee Gees' "Number Ones," which dropped 190 slots from No. 5 to No. 195 after it had a one-week run in the top 10 after Amazon MP3 sold the set for 99-cents. In fact, that Bee Gees fall is the largest positional decrease since the chart began using SoundScan data in 1991. -- Pink Floyd: Amazon MP3's deals of the day dot the chart as usual this week. $3.99 discounts spur gains for Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" (a re-entry at No. 112; up 98%), as well as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' "Greatest Hits" (129-50; up 114%), Elton John's "Rocket Man: Number Ones" (81-59; up 36%) and Stevie Wonder's "The Definitive Collection" (a re-entry at No. 72; up 190%). -- Sublime: Included as part of iTunes' back to school promotion, the band's self-titled release (158-137) was advertised for $7.99 last week, helping its overall 10% increase. In terms of downloads, it was up by 42%. Read more at www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/industry/record-labels/chart-moves-kelly-clarkson-s-stronger-album-1007917152.story#AMBsELgMZ0AXZPUH.99

Why do they advertise The Darkness's new album as "Fragrant World"? It's titled "Hot Cakes". ???
Also, impressive figures for Train. Their second single from their current album is only beginning to catch fire, and "California 37" has been remarkably consistent for a group of their sort on the chart in a way that is usually inhospitable for bands these days unless you work in multiple hit singles or enjoy a critical cult following.
I think when "Bruises" lands as the quite-likely third single, we'll see even greater consistency as they make a bid for Country crossover play. Anything after that will be extra pineapple on the California pizza.
Namaste, lisping HIBISCUS
