This year alone, non-US acts have topped the hot 100 for 21 of the 36 weeks so far this year.
Rihanna & Calvin Harris - Barbados & Scotland - 2 weeks ADELE - England - 2 weeks Gotye & Kimbra - Australia, Belgium & New Zealand - 8 weeks Carly Rae Jepson - Canada - 9 weeks
We've also had One Direction (England) dominating, Justin Bieber (Canada) missing the top spot due to a mid-week rule change & Ellie Goulding (England) missing the #1 spot by a hair to Flo Rida.
PSY (South Korea) may have a small break-through as well.
Has there ever been a year like this in the US?

What about foreign acts by residence? Rihanna currently lives in the U.S, right? It feels like cheating to count Rihanna as a foreign artist.
Regardless, in 2012, we've had.
#1s Rihanna Featuring Calvin Harris, We Found Love (U.S./Barbados, U.K.) Adele, Set Fire To The Rain: (U.K.) Gotye Featuring Kimbra, Somebody I Used To Know: (Austrailia/Belgium, New Zealand) Carly Rea Jepsen, Call Me Maybe (Canada)
Top 5s The Wanted, Glad You Came (U.K.) One Direction, What Makes You Beautiful (U.K.) Ellie Goulding, Lights (U.K.) Justin Bieber, Boyfriend (Canada) David Guetta Featuring Nicki Minaj, Turn Me On (France, U.S.) Flo Rida Featuring Sia, Wild Ones (U.S., Austrailia)
Top 10s Justin Bieber, As Long As You Love Me (Canada) Jessie J, Domino (U.K.) Drake Featuring Rihanna, Take Care (Canada, U.S./Barbados) David Guetta Featuring Sia, Titanium (France, Austrailia)
Top 20s (incomplete, I'm sure) Alex Clare, Too Close (U.K.) Calvin Harris, Feel So Close (U.K.) Drake Featuring Lil Wayne, The Motto (Canada, U.S.) Adele, Rumor Has It (U.K.) Calvin Harris Featuring Ne-Yo, Let's Go (U.K., U.S.)
Little Talks by the Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men is top 50 right now, and of course Gangnam Style is #1 on the bubbling under chart this week.

Justin Bieber (Canada) missing the top spot due to a mid-week rule change The change was made a few weeks prior to his song, though. No one knew how much streaming accounted for, plus the fact that sales are now weighted less and airplay more. It wasn't something new for that week.
