Rumor has it that Quest Love (from The Roots) has been added as a member of the Nomination Committee.

Assuming they count 1989 as Nirvana's start year, they should be a shoo in for induction, especially considering that GnR got in during their first year of eligibility. Wouldn't be surprised to see Chic finally get in this year too given Nile Rogers' resurgence.
Kraftwerk is guaranteed to be eventually inducted, even if it doesn't happen this year. I think it will happen sooner or later, especially with the rise of electronic influences over the past several years. NWA is getting inducted real soon too.
Not really sure about Linda, but Heart took me by surprise, so who knows. It would be weird to see her get in over Bon Jovi.

Don Henley is a vocal Linda Ronstadt supporter- recall that she was with the Eagles before the band took off.
Yes, Nirvana is one of those no-brainer, first-year-eligible-inductee acts.
Heart was a good example of an act never being nominated since becoming eligible, and then getting inducted with its first nomination. Odd, but it does happen from time to time.

The Eagles started out as her backup band. Of course he would be a supporter.
That said however, I don't really get what she's done to be in the same league as the people who've been inducted. She was successful for a long time with various types of music, but then again so was Olivia Newton-John. She's not really tied to the legacy of the Eagles in a musical way. That said, she's always had a rather good standing within the industry and in critics circles I think, so that'll help her if she gets in.

Linda R. was a good interpreter of previously popular songs- and she did have a good voice. She's been eligible since 1994, and has been considered, but never nominated. Her time could come.

Someone posted at midnight tonight? Odd timing, if so.
One rumored nominee is The Replacements, which has been eligible since 2006. This would be its first nomination.

You can trace more modern country singers like Trisha Yearwood and Martina McBride directly back to Ronstadt. Now, whether that merits inclusion in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame is a valid discussion, but Ronstadt is worthy in a general sense. I would love a clear line on what is considered "rock n roll" for this group. I mean, Gladys Knight and The Jackson 5 are in, but not Barbra Streisand.

It's not so much what's considered "rock n roll"- as we can see, there are various genres represented. But, this is the criteria feature on Futurte Rock Legends (and a link to a 2010 letter response from the museum president): futurerocklegends.com/Induction_Criteria.phpAside from a Country Music Hall of Fame (which predated the Rock Hall by 25 years), there's also a Pop Music Hall of Fame, which the public has a part in voting (and which looks, at the moment, to be just for pre-1980 acts).

Unless I missed something that's really generic and doesn't tell me much of anything.

Basically, "rock and roll" encompasses all musical genres.

Glad to see Hall & Oates finally getting a nod (not that I think they'll get in, this year anyway). And I think Chic's chances are looking pretty good this time.

Pretty great list; I can make some kind of case for every artist there, although, granted, some stronger than others. Particularly happy to see The Zombies on the ballot after being overlooked for so long, and also good to see Peter Gabriel being considered.
Nirvana's an obvious first year in. If I were to pick a class of six inductees from this list, using a mixture of trying to diversify genres / type of influence (as usually seems to happen) + personal preferences, it'd likely be: Peter Gabriel, LL Cool J, Nirvana, The Replacements, Cat Stevens, and The Zombies.
But really, any combination of inductees would be deserving in some way from this group. Strong ballot.

Wow, so Linda Ronstadt is the lone ranger female artist nominee?

Nirvana is a shoo in for a first time inductee.

Nirvana is a shoo in for a first time inductee. No doubt about that. Nirvana is a lock. I think Kiss will finally get in, too. It's actually looking better for Chic, as well. Absolutely no R&B competition for them this year. NWA or LL Cool J will get in, but I don't see both getting in this year. Nice to see Hall & Oates get a nod, but they don't have much of a chance this year. Possibly in the future.

Chic has a couple of female members, but, yes, Linda R. would be representing the females.

What does the 25 years run through? For instance, is it 1988 as the starting point, or 1989 since they will get inducted next year?

It would be 1988. The ceremony would be 26 years after the release of the first record.
This latest crop of nominees again shows that the female pop/R&B "divas" are not going to have an easy time.

It would be 1988. The ceremony would be 26 years after the release of the first record. I'm admittedly not a die-hard fan of Nirvana, but I do have most of their albums. I thought their debut dropped in 1989.

Chic has a couple of female members, but, yes, Linda R. would be representing the females. The LA Times also picked up on the lack of estrogen on the ballot.... linkFor example: Why is Ronstadt the only woman on the list? Where are, for example, the Go-Gos or the Runaways? What about Janet Jackson? Or is she less "rock 'n' roll" than Cat Stevens? My sentiments exactly!

Pat Benatar & Duran Duran should be in by now. As for this list, I'm hoping Hall & Oates and Linda Ronstadt get in.
