"The death knell was sounded for "bro-country" this week."
Is this just about the NASH ICONS Cumulus/Big Machine deal? I don't see this ending bro-country.
Or have all the radio PDs been fired?

Ok, I think the discussion is a little off-topic for this particular thread (which is about record labels and the artists who are signed to them). Let's try to keep it on topic please.

As noted by sapphire, Dot Records has signed its first act: Maddie & Tae. Here's the excerpt from Rolling Stone Country: Source** This is what mus1cr0w was talking about. In his defense, I really like the sound of these girls, and country radio has been sorely lacking in female artists. Plus, these girls cite some really talented names as influences. However, I don't see how one single act can bring a downfall to bro-country. As long as bro-country music sells, radio will play it. But I wish Maddie & Tae the best, and I'm looking forward to hearing from them! :)

As much as I like the potential these girls can deliver with their debut single and their influences, one hit single from a genuinely country act will not bring the down fall of the recent trend of the country genre, and country radio. I'm with jhomes87, that we have to see the numbers decrease in terms of digital, album, and concert sales before saying that bro-country will end. As much as I'm disheartened by it, many fans out there enjoy it and eat it up. I am though looking forward to Maddie & Tae. The fact their 18 years old and sight Shania and Lee Ann Womack as influences is awesome.

Maddie & Tae has the same cadence as Tegan and Sara.

So you say they saw them as influences?

The death knell was sounded for "bro-country" this week. Watch your trades early next week. Change is coming... though it will seem small at first, it is big. There will be fallout. mus1cr0w Now that the week has passed, are you able to elaborate on what happened?

Nope. I've already said too much. But it is Maddie & Tae.
Stay tuned.

Singer/Songwriter Drake White, who got to the top 40 with "Simple Life" in 2013, has signed a recording contract with Dot Records which was revived by BMLG earlier this year. Source

SourceNot surprised he ended up there. Just wasn't the right fit for him at UMG with all of the other artists in their stable.

With Curb it's impossible to know. Their website basically lists every artist that has ever been signed there so it's almost impossible to know which artists are actually still on their roster.
Another departure--Rachel Farley is no longer with Red Bow. She's not on their website anymore (it only lists Joe Nichols, David Fanning, and Chase Bryant) and someone already took her off their Wikipedia page as well.

Rachel Farley had some definite potential but not the best single choices. She said she was a major factor on "Midnight Road" being her second single but as soon as I heard it I feared the worst and felt it was a bad single decision.

Based on her two singles, I never cared for Rachel Farley. Her style just didn't appeal to me and I don't recall her voice doing much to pique my interest, either.

He's been with the roster since 2012's "Three Pears" album.

He's been with the roster since 2012's "Three Pears" album. So what part of re-signs is confusing to you? That means Dwight Yoakam has been there since the 3 Pears CD. I even said as such when I saluted Yoakam's Ain't That Lonely Yet this year: Yoakam decided to come back to the Warner family by releasing 3 Pears last year. The CD reached #3 on the country albums chart. His last CD is called 21st Century Hits: Best Of 2000-2012. You can find Ain't That Lonely Yet in his 2002 box set called Reprise, Please Baby and The Very Best Of Dwight Yoakam from 2004. This is what the chart looked like back then:

Just not newsworthy to say 're-signs' to me when that news is over 2 years old. The news is that he's releasing a new single from a new album for Warner/Reprise.

Actually it isn't 2 year old news it's brand new. He just resigned his deal. It was announced in one of the aircheck daily emails this week. I assume his las resigning was for 1 album and he's done it again.

Any word on whats going on with RCA & Sara Evans? I heard rumors her new single is being pushed back, which is odd now that Garth Brooks is being promoted by RCA at the same time. I find this anoying especially with the lack of females on country radio.i wonder if she is walking out or switching labels?

From what I can tell she's always had a good relationship with them so I don't think she would want to leave. And I don't remember exact details, but I believe after Stronger she re-signed with them and her updated contract calls for more than just one new album ( Slow Me Down).

During Sara's concert on Sirius/XM where she helped promote the release of Slow Me Down earlier this year, she stated she had signed a new deal with RCA Nashville. So unless something drastic happens she's not going anywhere for the immediate future.
I know everyone is upset at the push back for "Can't Stop Loving You", but can we at least give them a chance. It hasn't even hit radio yet and we're speculating on her future with a label that she just re-up'd with. I too am pessimistic about this song's chances but I'm going to wait and see how it performs first.

Already some discussion in the Maggie Rose thread on this. From Country Aircheck Today:
» RPME Shutters Promotion: RPM Entertainment has eliminated its promotion staff and will focus on management and publishing. Departing are regionals Jon Conlon, Will Robinson and Chris DeCarlo. EVP April Rider remains managing Maggie Rose and Chasin' Crazy, Jack Christopher stays on as VP/Radio Relations for the management division and VP/Marketing James Stewart continues in his current role. "The bottom line is the playing field was not conducive to us breaking through as an independent label at mainstream Country radio," President Scott Siman says. Adds Rider, "I want to thank our friends at Country radio who stepped up to help us over the last few years."

That would push Sara Evans' time at RCA to two decades, roughly the same time Dolly Parton spent there (1967-1986) and Martina McBride (1991-2010). I just hope RCA gives Evans the promotion for her CDs and singles she needs. After all, RCA should not put all of their eggs in Miranda Lambert's basket.

From Country Aircheck Today:
So this is basically the 4th indie label to shut down their promotion department this year. Average Joes laid off their promo team in April (other than the VP of promotion), then Bigger Picture Group shuttered in May, and now we have both RPM and HitShop shutting down their promo departments. Can Streamsound and Show Dog-Universal hang in there? SDU isn't scoring any hits--Toby is making a ton of money ($60 million a year) but the label is struggling mightily. And Streamsound hasn't really been able to do much either. I think Blaster and Black River will be fine, and Southern Ground should be ok as long as they keep the focus on ZBB (they really don't have the power yet to promote other artists besides ZBB). Most Curb artists aren't doing too well but the label isn't likely to shut down. And of course Big Machine and Broken Bow are doing very well so no worries there.
