Charlie Worsham and Ashley Monroe haven't seen a lot of radio success, but that's not looking at the big picture. Both of them are critically-acclaimed, and someone like Ashley is going to sell more albums than an artist like Gloriana or even Canaan Smith. I'm sure Warner Bros. would love to score a hit with Ashley but even if she never goes top 40, I suspect they'll keep her around and be perfectly content to let her make music that the critics and award shows (Grammys) adore. Anyway, I don't really want this thread to devolve into a "which artists are going to get dropped" predictions thread. The only reason we've been discussing the BMLG roster is because Scott Borchetta himself implied in his interview (with Hits Daily Double) that one of the label's artists had "given up the ghost". That pretty much means you're done with the label, so we were trying to figure out who it might be. Now that we have confirmation that EYB is going over to Valory, my best guess is that Borchetta was talking about one of their artists in development (maybe Seth Alley). Borchetta's comment read as if it were an artist they were developing, and Laura Bell Bundy doesn't fit those parameters. Waterloo Revival got their 1st add on Monday for a song called "Bad For You", so chances are that that'll be their next single. This thread should be for news: when an artist is signed, when one is dropped, when a label makes a big change, etc. We could go up and down the list of labels and predict which artists won't be there in a year or two, but I don't really see the point of that. It's all just speculation unless you're one of the few Pulse members who actually has ties to the music industry. The occasional comment wondering about an artist's status with their label is fine, but I don't want to see pages upon pages of "I bet this artist gets dropped" or "This artist should get dropped, I can't believe they ever got signed", etc. The main point of this thread is to track which artists are where. So yeah, artist/label news only please :) Sorry about de-railing the thread. I'm just fascinated to see who is the next cut off the line. Sorry again.

Sorry about de-railing the thread. I'm just fascinated to see who is the next cut off the line. Sorry again. No worries--it's my fault I started it when I posted the Borchetta comment coupled with my speculation about the Eli Young Band. But again, I'd suggest we try to focus primarily on hard news in this thread, and keep speculation to a minimum. Because speculation is just that--speculation--and my guess isn't any better than someone else's guess. :) The last thing I want is for Pulse to be the start of unfounded rumors! I was fascinated by Borchetta's comment (really, his whole interview) and I always love getting an inner look into what's going on behind the scenes with a record label, because oftentimes we really don't know what's going on. And so it's always a treat when we get interviews with label CEO's.

Had a talk recently with a former staff from CBS and be assured, you don't want to know what's going on behind the scenes. You'd be disgusted! I was flabbergasted. Sometimes, I wonder whether the Pulse Country Forum hasn't more knowledge, gut feeling and common sense than the ones actually working in this business.

Oh, I have no doubt that the music industry can be cruel, and that parts of it are corrupt. But I still find any info about the "inner-workings" of label/radio to be fascinating :)

The music business isn't for the tender-hearted. But that actually could be said for a lot of jobs. I've always subscribed to the "Anything worth doing is gonna be tough so better get to doing it" mentality. Artists mostly know what they're getting into or learn really quickly. Usually you only hear "horror stories" from artists who didn't go in with the attitude that they're there to learn and grow in addition to creating their music.
I AM interested in seeing who drops out of one of the labels. And I think EYB moving to Valory could've been the decision to just let the band be. Most acts on the Valory roster have that kind of approach to their music from the label.

Honestly, the only artists still on Show Dog at this point are Toby and Krystal.

They are now also on Facebook: Show Dog Nashville on Facebook. This doesn't link to Show Dog's Facebook page :) You accidentally made it link back to this thread.

BTW, is it now just a label for Toby and Krystal to release their music, or do they plan to sign more artists later on? Welcome to Pulse. :) I don't think anybody knows for sure what's the deal with Show Dog but I assume that for now it'll just be for Toby and Krystal. The only reason they're still going is Toby's wealth keeping it functioning but they have zero momentum with radio and Toby's name recognition is the only reason his singles get airplay. If they sign any new artists, then perhaps they will have gotten a way to try and structure a good enough platform to let their artists have at least a shot at airplay. Right now it's not looking promising.

Right now it's not looking promising. It's just Toby and Krystal now. The Show Dog Facebook and Twitter pages confirm that. It looks like their FB page was started within the last week, and their Twitter account is brand new as well, with only 17 tweets so far. They no longer have a website. Instead, their Twitter page tweeted on July 8 "Welcome to the new official page for Toby Keith's record label, Show Dog Nashville!" twitter.com/showdognashI doubt they plan on signing and developing any other artists anytime soon. If that were the case, they wouldn't have given up on JT Hodges, Joel Crouse, Josh Thompson, and Native Run. They most likely won't even release anything for Krystal (to radio anyway), but Toby wasn't gonna drop his own daughter from his label. I don't know if Toby is having financial difficulties or what. I mean, obviously his radio airplay was bound to decline sooner or later (now that he's in his 50's, and since he's been on the radio charts since the early 90's), but now they can't even afford a website? A lot of Toby's restaurants have been closing unexpectedly as well. It's weird, because he still tours well (he's a big name, after all), and places like Billboard and Forbes continue to rank him among the top annual "earners" in the music industry.

BBR Music Group has re-designed their website www.bbrmusicgroup.com and officially added Jordan Rager to the Broken Bow imprint. I guess they haven't given up on Kristy Lee. I wonder how many dud singles it will take; she already has been given 3 shots.

From Billboard tonight:
So it appears that Big Loud Mountain won't have a full blown radio single for a while as they are kicking off a radio promotion tour on August 3rd, with an EP from Chris Lane by Q4. My guess is that they will end up giving an official debut single from Chris Lane an add date at the start of 2016.
Taking their time to lay some groundwork is a smart move and it's better to wait a little longer than you would like, then rushing out something sooner than is necessary.

This was discussed a bit in the LoCash thread already. From Music Row: Gator Michaels was SVP of promotion at Warner Nashville several years back. He then spent a little time with Davis Music Group before starting his own company/radio promo team, InstiGator Entertainment, in 2011. Then in 2012 the InstiGator team was hired by Blaster Records and brought in-house there. Michaels exited Blaster in November 2014 and Bob Reeves took over from there. Skip Bishop is another big name. He was with Sony for a long time and then he started up HitShop Records in 2013. HitShop basically shuttered last July when they eliminated their radio promotion department.

Another new act on Warner Music Nashville. From AllAccess: Walker County is a sister duo comprised of Ivy Dene Walker and Sophie Dawn Walker. Their dad Billy Walker plays lead guitar, but he's considered more a part of the band and not part of the actual duo. The Walker family hails from Sulphur Springs, Indiana. Here's their website: www.walkercountyband.com/

Walker County is giving me Dixie Chicks vibes with some of those song clips on their website. I doubt they see much success but it's pretty cool that they landed a deal with Warner Music Nashville.

Per Windmills, it looks like Republic Nashville has signed Brett Young ( Instagram) and female trio My Darling June ( Instagram). She also says that Republic Nashville currently has five Brett Young songs being tested, including a song called "Kiss By Kiss" ( Live Audio).

I was just looking at the Broken Bow website and noticed that David Fanning has moved from RedBow to Stoney Creek, I wonder why they moved him?

Forgive me, but is there independent confirmation of this news. I clicked on the links but didn't read where they had signed with Republic Nashville. I rarely doubt Windmills, as she's usually correct. We do they signed recording contracts but I also did not see a "Republic Nashville" indication on either Instagram. That's why I used her twitter as a source and used the phrase "looks like." :) We'll have to wait for further confirmation (All Access, Music Row).

From Country Aircheck Today (08/03):
» Nettles Leaves Label: UMG/Nashville and Jennifer Nettles have parted ways. No one has commented officially, though the label group does retain its rights to Sugarland. Nettles and Sugarland partner Kristian Bush (signed individually with Streamsound) both released solo albums in the last two years; Nettles' That Girl debuted at No. 1 on Mercury in January 2014.

Wow. Well I guess we know why "Sugar" just kind of disappeared all of a sudden. I'm really shocked. Things seemed to be lining up for the single release and all, so this seems to be quite a sudden change of direction. Really curious to see what happens now. :o
