"Dance With Ya" is just horrid, imo. The Highway played the living heck out of it this year.

Now I have to hear it on FM radio now? -_- Not necessarily. Drew's with Cold River, who only managed to get Katie Armiger just one MB top 40 single ("Better In A Black Dress") over her seven or so years releasing singles. They have a rich owner of the label but have yet to see any success at radio, though they've really only pushed one artist (Katie Armiger). It's also uncertain what song will be Baldrige's debut terrestrial single and when. It very well could be "Dance With Ya" but that remains to be seen.

I know this doesn't really add anything to the discussion. I know this as I saw he had visited the new Shriners in St. Louis here recently and performed the new patients and staff. He is a very nice guy.

Blaster Records Confirms Layoffs Amid Restructuring: President Derek Simon confirmed the announcement: Music RowThis essentially means that Blaster has decided that they cannot compete in the radio promotion department and have decided to focus on non-radio ventures to get their artists name out there, including Publishing. There's no way any artist on their roster gets into the top 40 at radio now. Dallas Smith might find another radio promotion staff at some point, but I doubt the others (Montgomery Gentry, James Otto) will find another label home that will promote them to mainstream radio. A downsizing in the radio promotion department from a label that hasn't been that successful at radio over the past few years, isn't a surprise. Just too much money being spent with little to no return.

They may keep MG as they can tour but I doubt it. Dallas Smith will revert 100% to Big Loud Records.

The timing is unfortunate for the promotion people who got let go but not surprising considering their struggles and the fact it's the end of the year. Blaster is essentially shuttered, at least for radio promo purposes.

Third Man signing, per Billboard:
Margo Price is the first Nashville artist signed to Jack White's Third Man Records. Her debut country album, Midwest Farmer's Daughter, is due March 25. It was recorded at Sun Studio in Memphis after hours when the studio/museum was closed.

Surprised no one posted this yet; I'm usually never the first to report news anymore!
This was in a Country Aircheck Breaking News email today:
Zac is sure to keep the Southern Ground Artists moniker, but SG will no longer have a radio promo team. ZBB's radio promotion will be handled by Dot Records instead. The rest of ZBB's parnership with John Varvatos Records and Republic Records (not the Republic Nashville part of BMLG) remains the same.

Job layoffs and shutterings usually tend to happen at the end of the fiscal year.

Sorry if the question is stupid. The downsizing at Blaster really touched me. It's incredibly expensive to field them. But there seems to always be other teams sprouting up at new labels so maybe a Cingle Records or other new label will launch a team in the new year a la Reviver.

Would be great if we had more independent teams out there. Do you happen to know what the promo costs amount for a record to be worked for 20 weeks at a) Texas, b) secondary radio, and c) Mediabase/Billboard panel stations? What figures are we talking here about? I know it's not cheap, so I'm curious. Thanks for your time.

Each single costs hundreds of thousands to million + to get to #1 and scaled down from there for secondary, music row and Texas.

Another day another closure. Par for the course this time of year. I'd be surprised if Striking Matches didn't land another label somewhere else.

BBLG posted a Merry Christmas message in the Billboard update tonight with no James Wesley or Kristy Lee Cook, but did have a new addition: Runaway June, which appears to be a three-member female band...
I also thought it was hilarious that it appeared "ranked" from their biggest artists to their smallest, and David Fanning was BEHIND Runaway June, which I didn't even know was signed.

Sorry for the double post, but I did some research on Runaway June and found that these are the members: Hannah Mulholland, Naomi Cooke and Jennifer Wayne. Jennifer Wayne is previously of Stealing Angels.

It appears that Gloriana may have been dropped by Warner Music Nashville. All of Gloriana's singles so far have been promoted to radio by the WAR promotion team, but the Merry Christmas message from WAR in Country Aircheck tonight left Gloriana off the list of WAR artists. On the ornaments you can see the 5 WAR artists (Jana Kramer, Dan + Shay, Frankie Ballard, Chris Janson, and Charlie Worsham) along with the WAR Promotion logo, the Warner Music Nashville logo, the Warner Bros. Records logo, and the Elektra Nashville logo. I suppose it's possible that Gloriana could still be with the label and that their future singles will be worked by WMN or WEA, but I highly doubt it. This is how Warner Music Nashville currently divvies up their artists: WMN: 1) Blake Shelton 2) Cole Swindell 3) Brett Eldredge 4) Hunter Hayes 5) William Michael Morgan 6) Ashley Monroe 7) The Railers WAR: 1) Frankie Ballard 2) Chris Janson 3) Dan + Shay 4) Jana Kramer 5) Charlie Worsham WEA: 1) Michael Ray 2) Ryan Kinder 3) Kid Rock N/A to a promo team: 1) Randy Travis 2) Kenny Rogers 3) Big Smo (basically the non-radio artists) New signings High Valley and Walker County have yet to be assigned to a promo team as well.

They're still there as of a few weeks ago. They're also on emblem who licenses their music to WMN. I could see them being shifted to WEA if/when new music comes out.

Well I'm hoping "Beautiful Drug" starts to fall because I do not want to be hearing this on the radio. This is ridiculous that Country radio is allowing this song to be played.

It's not a country act but Cheap Trick has signed with Big Machine Records: Music RowScott Borchetta loves Rock music and Cheap Trick is one of his all-time favorite artists, in any genre, so this was inevitable.

Maybe we'll get a duet of I Want You To Want Me by Cheap Trick and Dwight Yoakam. Yoakam took his version to #49 in 2001.

I'm a big Country and Rock fan, but good Lord Borchetta would be better off using BM's resources to promote their signed acts, as opposed to signing one that (likely) won't go over well with Country fans/buyers anyway.
