Beginning this Monday (or earlier)! Don't expect all your favorite pop divas or anything, just a list I started a while ago, featuring what I consider the greatest songs ever, post-1955. Not favorite, but greatest. I'll do my best to include my reasoning for each, and some facts. I will also include my Top 10 *favorite* songs from each year, 1955 to present, along the way. I will clarify that this wasn't totally objective. I definitely let my personal preferences influence the list, that's why songs like "Under Pressure," "Sympathy For The Devil" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand" made the list, but weren't given high positions. I factored in my opinions, along with general critical consensus to come up with a decent list of fairly influential and good songs. Hope you enjoy.

500. Power To The People (1971)John Lennon & The Plastic Ono BandJohn Lennon wrote this 1971 single quickly as a protest anthem, with the purpose of giving "the people" something to chant. While it's basically a catchphrase, it's one that has been ingrained in the pop culture lexicon.

499. My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It) (1992)En VogueWhile it is one of the greatest 90s R&B songs, it made my list because I consider it the quintessential "girl group" song. The harmonies are on point, and the breakdown took the song to the next level.

494. Thirteen (1972) Big Star
This is Alex Chilton's pop masterpiece. A song about a transition into a new mindset, it feels whistful, innocent and its short length reinforces the feeling of the song.

485. Don't Come Around Here No More (1985)Tom Petty & The HeartbreakersThis trippy, anthemic song is Tom Petty at his best, mixing newer 1980s sounds with mysticism and his classic rock.

483. Great Balls Of Fire (1957) Jerry Lee Lewis
One of rock music's architects, and one of the most iconic songs of that era. I have to note that I'm not giving Jerry Lee Lewis the shaft. He'll have another song on the countdown much later.
