Was so looking forward to this, but, ehh, I find the song to be very ordinary. I love Kelly Clarkson's voice on anything so I surely don't hate it. Just disappointed that it's not more special. Vince could be anybody here. Don't really hear him very well.
I could hear Barbara Mandrell doing this back in the day. Or, Lou Rawls. Has that vibe.

I think Kelly's voice fits perfectly with the type of song you'd imagine it's supposed to be. The title is "Don't Rush". She could've easily gone for the vocal acrobats and glory notes, but I think her subdued approach is really tasteful. The instrumental mixed with her smooth blue vocals sound like heaven. I really want to know what he thought!

Don't like the single cover for this. Very photoshopped.
As for the song, it's good. Nothing very special at all, but certainly good enough to crack the Top 15, maybe Top 10. I can't see it going Top 5 or #1, but it definitely seems radio-friendly enough to make a decent impact. I'd give it a solid B- overall.

See, I listen to country radio a lot (and really nothing else), and I CAN see them playing this, as long as it's actually going to be promoted by Sony/RCA Nashville, which was on board for MKIA's push to country radio.
I think the song is pretty good, and while not overly 'country', it's certainly not really pop either, but has more of a blues/soul vibe. The one thing I guess I was thinking was that her vocals and phrasing would sound a little more 'country'. I'm not saying she sounds 'pop' or non-country...I guess I was just expecting to hear a little more twang or Texas accent here. In other words, I agree that she sounds different than she does on most of her songs that are geared toward the pop/AC crowd. I think she sounds great and this is definitely a mixture of sounds/genres that should fit in with the rest of today's contemporary country radio. It's just a little different than what I was expecting.

^Her voice sounds a bit processed to me, and Kelly is the last singer on earth that needs that.

Hmmn, not what I was expecting but I like it well enough. I don't think it's a stretch sonically for country radio, and I actually found myself digging the vibe and melody. I actually give Clarkson credit for finding an original sound that works well enough to give country another try without seeming like an opportunist. The only real issue I have here is her vocals - just way too breathy and pop for my tastes, especially towards the beginning of the song. I can see myself growing tired of this rather quickly. I can see this out-peaking MKIA, and maybe even cracking the lower parts of the T10 if they really stick with it.

I want to like this because I love Kelly and I adore Vince... but it's just okay for me. Not bad by any means, but it's nothing memorable at all. Hoping it will grow on me.

I really like it. I'm glad that she's not doing something too pop/country, because I'm sure that's what a lot of people were predicting. This is a bit of a risk but I think it will stand out.

Yeah, I am a gigantic Kelly Clarkson fan and have been since Idol and I can promise you there is no processing on her voice. This is Kelly Clarkson. She is singing in a lower key than most songs she has done (at least it sounds like that to me), maybe that is throwing you off? I also don't hear breathy but again, maybe that is how Kelly always sounds and I just don't notice it unless she is extra breathy.

Love this! I really didn't expect to love it so much but it's great. It is really nice and subdued, very relaxing. In my opinion that doesn't make it boring but it may be to some people.

I'm sure you guys are right about the voice not being processed. It's just a different sound than I'm used to from her, a bit more lilting than the power-pop stuff I'm used to. It's also different from the head voice she employs from time to time on songs like "Irvine" from My December. That was the first time I had noticed that from her, and it literally gave me chills to hear it. Still one of my favorite Kelly vocals.
Anyway, I guess my main complaint with Don't Rush is that it just doesn't seem to be an exceptional song, which is what I wanted from her. And, I still don't get much of Vince here. I had built myself up to hearing a beautiful melding of two exceptional voices, and I don't hear that.

To me, it sounds like a Lady Antebellum track.

The fact that it's still not on iTunes is irritating.

At first listen it was just meh with me but after a second listen, I like it. I'm glad it's not too country because I hate country music so much.

This song is a SMASH! I can't place it, but there is a song I definitely get a vibe from from this song and to me this really has an 80's vibe to it.

I really wanted to love it, but idk that I'm really feeling it that much. Then again I don't care for a lot of country songs. I get why they said "ft. Vince Gill," but he is barely in it at all. LOL @ him getting a "feature" and Kara not even getting mention in The Sun Will Rise, when she sang WAAAAY more and was more than a back up during choruses.

I love this! And that single cover is beyond flawless. Best single cover to date for her, IMO.

^Was just gonna post that! Interesting that Columbia is gonna promote it instead of RCA, which pushed MKIA. It makes more sense this way, though...RCA's promo staff is currently juggling singles by big stars like Miranda Lambert, Jake Owen, and Chris Young, plus new singles from newer acts like Joanna Smith and Love & Theft.
The Columbia imprint on Sony only has 4 artists: Kenny Chesney, Casey James, Wade Bowen, and Tyler Farr. They're currently in the top 20 with the current releases from Kenny and Casey, and are working on breaking in Tyler. Wade is big in Texas, but his debut single for Columbia only scraped the top 40 and he currently doesn't have a single out there.
So Columbia's staff doesn't have as much on their plate. I'm glad Kelly's got another country single going out, and it seems clear that she's gonna keep pursuing country hits. It definitely appears that she struck some sort of deal with Sony Nashville, in order to have RCA/Columbia work her songs to country radio, since she's not technically signed to the Nashville division of Sony.

Is the 19 on there related to 19 Entertainment which in turn is related to AI? I thought Kelly had cut off her ties completely with them.

I love this but, aside from the instrumental, this could be an R&B song. Kelly just has so much soul in her voice. It's like Corinne Bailey Rae/Colbie Caillat meets Lady Antebellum.

This song is kind of similar to some of Billy Currington's soulful mid-tempo hits, which I usually LOVE. I'm hoping for a big fat hit!! For me, a "twangy" vocal isn't what makes a song country.
