Oh please, if Kelly released this song to Pop then everyone would bitch and moan that it is clearly country and has no place being a pop single. It has a lot of soul in it but it is clearly country. That was just trying way too hard to find a complaint. I beg your pardon? I wasn't "trying to hard to find a complaint" or "bitching & moanoing". She stated she was going to earn her nomination & I was expecting something a little more country. If you find it "clearly country" , good for you. I would say its clearly 70's Soul.

Kelly didn't mean she was going to prove she earned her nomination by putting every thing on this one single. I think she means in the long run, over the next year, she will prove she deserves to be there. She is starting with the single but is also doing more by performing here at the CMAs and not just showing up. I just never have heard anyone say that old school country was a rip off of even older Soul music. It doesn't add up for me.

I think it is safe to assume she will be performing her Pop single, though. :)

November 12th is the day! I was assuming they'd rush it after that performance! It is available for radio to play. It was sent out digitally on Tuesday afternoon. The official adds date isn't until the 12th, though. It's no different than what's happening with Tim McGraw's new single...it was sent to radio Tuesday as well but has an adds date of the 12th.

That performance kicked ass. Kelly looked and sounded amazing. I don't really love the song but the live performance did a good job selling it to me.

This is the perfect example of a song that does not suit my tastes, but I can tell that it is a good one. I actually admire Kelly for going in this direction - she could have easily gone the pop country route and she stuck to her guns (as always) and took a bit of a risk here. Well done KC!

Yes, I wasn't too excited about this until the performance totally pulled me in. I love it, now. And I find the lyrics to be adorable!

After watching most of the performances last night, I was pleasantly surprised to hear this song by the end of the night.

The song is up to #13 Overall and #6 on Pop EOnline: 2012 CMA Awards: 5 Biggest Jaw-Droppersby Natalie Finn Today 5:00 AM PDT Nothing had us seeing Red at the 46th Annual Country Music Association Awards—but that doesn't mean we didn't enjoy plenty of surprises! From who didn't win the night's top honor to the most wince-worthy jokes to what was left unsaid, we've broken down the event's most shocking moments. Be prepared for five spit takes: snipJason Kempin/Getty Images4. Kelly Clarkson Goes Full Country: We've seen this before, with Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, Gwyneth Paltrow and other stars from different genres who end up stumbling upon a country-friendly hit and decide to stay put for a spell. And Clarkson had that big, Grammy-nominated hit in 2010 with Jason Aldean, "Don't You Wanna Stay." But now she's landing nominations for Female Vocalist of the Year and channeling Dolly Parton on the very "Islands in the Stream"-reminiscent "Don't Rush," her new duet with Vince Gill. All right, Kelly, welcome to the party! But don't forget to thank American Idol—Carrie always does. ca.eonline.com/news/359578/2012-cma-awards-5-biggest-jaw-droppers

I didn't like the tone of that write up one bit. Seemed like a lot of back-handed complimenting.

Thanking AI given the current state it's in may be back handed, but keep in mind that the show did help her launch into superstardom with hits like "Miss Independent", the nearly historical Breakaway era (one of the best albums of the decade imo), and her recent smash hit "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)". I'm sure Carrie's still thanking Idol after her many hits, so why shouldn't Kelly? Then again, it's just my 2 cents. Anywho, about this song, I definitely agree with the Bonnie Riatt influence and vibe. I really enjoy it; it has that throwback vibe I've been looking for recently. It'd be great if she gets another country hit out of this.

Kelly Clarkson and Vince Gill Perform Easy-Going Version of ‘Don’t Rush’ at 2012 CMA AwardsBy: Amy Sciarretto | Yesterday Jason Kempin, Getty ImagesKelly Clarkson and Vince Gill took the stage together to perform her easy-going new single ‘Don’t Rush’ at the 2012 CMA Awards. Clarkson has been slowly, but surely, drifting away from the pop world into the country one, and this song only speeds up the process for the former ‘American Idol’ winner. Her Gill-assisted performance was believable, beautiful and buoyant. The song is Clarkson’s first true country single and she recruited Gill, a bonafide country star, to sing and play guitar. It was a good move. The song has a bit of a lazy, ’80s energy, and Clarkson and Gill worked their magic on stage. She faced him and sang to him most of the time with a big smile on her face. They looked and sounded like a duo that has been working together for decades. Their musical chemistry crackles. Let us pause for a second and mention that Clarkson also looked absolutely stunning in a black and red, lace brocade dress that played up her newly trim figure. Clarkson had a hit on her hands with ‘Don’t You Wanna Stay,’ her duet with Jason Aldean, but after one live performance of this new song, we’re thinking she may very well eclipse that previous foray into country. Clarkson can sing her butt off, but she showed taut restraint while delivering this song on stage. It was easy, breezy and excellent. tasteofcountry.com/kelly-clarkson-vince-gill-dont-rush-2012-cma-awards/

the infamous Breakaway era (one of the best albums of the decade imo),\ I don't think you understand the term infamous. Or maybe I don't understand your meaning?

American Idol got her foot in the door...but like alot of talent shows that came and gone...it could of been a flop. The minute she released her debut album she worked for herself and created herself. Her career has NOTHING to do with American Idol...only her start. I can understand the upset when she won her first Grammy, but its been 10 years. TEN FREAKING YEARS! And besides shes not even in association with 19 or the management of Idol. She's made her own decisions and left them. If anything...I think she should thank Reba at this point in her career over idol lol.

That "start" or break is one of the hardest things to get in this industry and Kelly knows that. There are so many talented acts who just can't get that break for whatever reason. I think it's very honorable she thanks them after all these years.

Honorable is very true...but to expect her to thank them for everything also diminishes that she is where she is today because of her talent, not just idol. After Thankful...Idol has done nothing for her, other than have her appear...which benefits them just as much. I don't know if I am making my point clear but its so silly to still have to thank Idol for everything. Especially when it was the "ghetto" season. No one knew what to expect. It could of been a failure. Idol should thank her everytime they have success than.

As much as Kelly has forged her own career since the release of Breakaway, she simply wouldn't have a career were it not for the show. The same goes for Idol - had Kelly not won and become a star by turning both "A Moment Like This" and "Miss Independent" into hits (and I really think MI is the more important of the two), it's extremely unlikely the show would still be around today. But you can't expect them to constantly be thanking each other every time one of them wins something - wouldn't that be the equivalent of Mariah Carey thanking Ben Margulies for co-writing "Vision of Love" after winning every award? Kelly is very aware of her beginnings, and she still makes reference and indicates she is thankful for them from time to time. That's enough for me.

"Don't Rush" in concert for the first time. ♥ ♥ SO GOOD! This time it's a little Country and a little more R&B. Found another Don't Rush (sound is a little noisy, but still good) with a cute explanation and story after the song.

I would also like to point out that we can't really speculate if Kelly wouldn't have been a success had she not gone on American Idol. She did have three full scholarships offered to her when she graduated high school at the University of Texas in Austin, University of North Texas, and Berklee College of Music. And she was also offered recording contrasts from Jive and Interscope before Idol. So yes, I would want any Idol to be thankful for the show helping get them noticed in a big way, but as many have proven throughout the show, just being an Idol winner or finalist doesn't give you a promising career.
