Oops I just realized this is supposed to be live. Hee, hee...I'd already have been in trouble if I'd been totally live. As it is, I had to start several minutes past 3:00 - no thanks to Firefox.

It kept her from setting a new record for most #1 songs in a row...but later on, we'll hear about some new records she still managed to set this year. At #24, that was Katy Perry's "Part of Me". But speaking of records that weren't...next, is a song that made a mighty leap during its run. Following a two-week chart freeze, it leaped eleven notches in a single week in the middle of August. The record is fifteen...but eleven is still easily the most in quite some time. #23 Cher Lloyd, "Want U Back"[/b][/u] At #23, here's another of the six British acts in my year-end survey: Cher Lloyd, and "Want U Back".(NOTE: This is the UK version of the video, which features a rapped verse from Astro.)

The 23rd biggest hit of the year on Mike's Top 20 comes from Cher Lloyd, with "Want U Back".
Up next: More Hot Adult Contemporary goodness, as the survey continues!

Mike's 40 biggest for the year - and I'm Mike, counting 'em down! #22 Tristan Prettyman, "My Oh My"[/b][/u] This song is a bit of a breakthrough hit for singer-songwriter Tristan Prettyman. Something very interesting that I learned not too long ago is that she once dated Jason Mraz. And wouldn't you know...they're both in my year-end countdown! Jason's coming up later, but his song failed to hit #1. Hers didn't - it hit the top at the beginning of December, and it's another of the Hot Adult Contemporary songs proliferating my year-end countdown. At #22 for the year, Tristan sings "My Oh My".

Survey Song #22, for Two-Oh-One-Two - "My Oh My" by Tristan Prettyman, another song that came to my attention from the world of Hot Adult Contemporary. And this next song is the chart comeback from a band who are chart veterans over there - a band whose body of work ranks up among my overall favorites. #21 Matchbox Twenty, "She's So Mean"[/b][/u] With a song they took to #3 on Mike's Top 20, here's Matchbox Twenty at #21 in my year-end countdown with "She's So Mean"!

At #21 for the year, are Matchbox Twenty and "She's So Mean".
We're halfway through my year-in-review of the 40 biggest songs of the year on Mike's Top 20. This past hour, we heard from quite a few women in the survey - but coming up in the next hour, it's the men's turn to shine! We'll hear from men in movies, men in numbers...and men with honors, as my year-end countdown continues in just a few minutes!

Here we go...kicking off the last Top 20 countdown on my chart! Er...sort of. I'll be starting the new year with a newly-expanded chart, but before we get there, we have the second half of Mike's 40 biggest songs of the year 2012. And in this hour: My chart's top act of the year, top act of the past three years combined, and the biggest song to hit my chart in that timeframe. All that and more, as we fly on.........better watch out though, cause we're kicking things off with a rain cloud! Here's a song that looked like it was going to be shut out of the top spot at the beginning of the year. It spent three weeks at #2, unable to make it past another monster-sized hit that we'll hear a little bit later on. But it bided its time, and finally captured the top spot for one week in February - and indeed, no song stopped at #2 at all during the year! #20 Bruno Mars, "It Will Rain"[/b][/u] At #20 for the year, here's Bruno Mars singing "It Will Rain"!

The first of two hits from the movie Breaking Dawn Part 1 - and the 20th biggest song on my chart for the year, "It Will Rain" by Bruno Mars. #19 Coldplay, "Paradise"[/b][/u] But now we go from rain - to paradise! Paradise, by a band called Cold......play. Coldplay! And they come in here, at #19!

They took that song to #3 back in April - at #19 for the year, that was Coldplay and their song "Paradise". Next, at #18, is the song that was #18 for the year last year as well. Now that's actually pretty impressive, to rank inside the 20 biggest songs of the year on two consecutive years with the same song - and a song that can do that, must have been quite the hit. And I've gotta tell you, it was. It spent 7 weeks up at the top, four of them as the first four weeks of this year - and it also spent 35 weeks on my chart in total. Add up all its chart points, and this song has more than any other to date. Such is the staying power that this song had, and indeed, continues to have even today. I may not be as into it now as I was quite then, but I haven't grown completely sick of it yet, either. #18 Gavin DeGraw, "Not Over You"[/b][/u] That song with the tip-of-the-top, cream-of-the-crop credentials is by Gavin DeGraw. His comeback hit - "Not Over You".

At #18 for the year, for each of these past two years, Gavin DeGraw's "Not Over You". But for the combined three years since my chart's come back up and running again, it's right up there - at #1.
The seventeen biggest songs of the year still to come, as my 2012 year-end countdown continues.

Wrapping up the year gone by, is a review of Mike's 40 biggest songs of 2012. At #17 is a woman who's proving that Pop chart success doesn't always correlate with how much I like her music. This song stalled outside the Top 20 on the Pop chart, while her #1 Pop smash that came before it, "Stronger", petered out at #17 here on my chart. #17 Kelly Clarkson, "Dark Side"[/b][/u] This song spent four weeks at #3 back in the early Fall on my chart - at #17 for the year, here's "Dark Side" by Kelly Clarkson.

The 17th biggest hit of the year on Mike's Top 20, "Dark Side" by Kelly Clarkson. And here's another act whose bigger hit on my chart was not necessarily their biggest Pop hit. "We Are Young" hit #1 on the Pop chart, but only got up to #10 before it stalled quickly, and vanished just as quickly. This song had no such burn factor, and spent two weeks at #1 here back in November. #16 fun., "Some Nights"[/b][/u] At #16 is the band fun. with "Some Nights"!

Mike's 40 biggest songs of the year, presented right here! Two acts tied in total chart points for all of 2012. And would you believe it - they're the next two acts in my year-end countdown! Train and Adele both finished with 692 total chart points each for the year 2012 - but Train only managed two hits during the year, while Adele scored three! And that tie-breaker gives her the title of artist of the year here on Mike's Top 20. (And, just for the record...though she set quite a few new records throughout the year, Katy Perry ended up finishing just over 20 points behind both Train and Adele, so she finished #3. Very close, indeed!) Adele didn't quite make the year-end survey with her James Bond theme "Skyfall", but she did send two other smash hits in - and both of them hit #1! #15 Adele, "Set Fire to the Rain"[/b][/u] The first of them is right here at #15 - "Set Fire to the Rain".

She spent two weeks at #1 with that song back in March - at #15 for the year is Adele, with "Set Fire to the Rain". And while they finished right behing her in the artist tally this year, Train currently lead among all artists for the three-year span starting in 2010, when my chart returned. In that time, they've had five #1 songs and a long-running #2 hit here on my chart, and they've been showing no signs of slowing down whatsoever. Like Adele, this year they send two #1 hits into the year-end survey. #14 Train, "50 Ways to Say Goodbye"[/b][/u] This one hit #1 right around Thanksgiving - at #14 for the year, it's "50 Ways to Say Goodbye" by Train!(Because featuring David Hasselhoff in the video ain't such a bad thing. ;))

Rihanna?but Adele is good too! :kii: I don't have a complete listing saved anywhere, but I'd imagine that Rihanna, with her two #1s this year, has to be somewhere in the top five. While she's no Queen this year, this has actually been her best year on my chart thus far - but having said that, if I'd been running a chart in 2007 and 2008, either of those would have easily been her best years.

Mike's 40 biggest of the year, counted down by...well, by the man himself. Here's the second appearance from the year's top solo man on my chart. And the keyword there is solo - we've had Calvin Harris, who's charted twice on collaborations, but the man right here at #13 has done it all by himself so far. #13 Andy Grammer, "Fine By Me"[/b][/u] His second, and biggest song of the year, is "Fine By Me". Of course...Andy Grammer!

Andy took that to #3 for three weeks back in the Spring...at #13 for the year is "Fine By Me". Next, we're up to the band that's on the hottest streak of their careers right now. They've had three #1s on the Pop chart in a row in a little over a year now, though I haven't been going along for the ride with all three of 'em. This is the only one of the three to have made my chart, and what do you know - it also hit #1 here. #12 Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa, "Payphone"[/b][/u] It spent four weeks up there during the summer - at #12 for the year are Maroon 5 getting a little help from Wiz Khalifa with this one on "Payphone".

Coming in at #12 for the year 2012, that's Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa with "Payphone". Here's one of five acts in my year-end survey who went right to #1 their first time out on my chart - and you know, those songs did pretty well for themselves this year. We heard the first of them back at #22 from Tristan Prettyman, and three more of them are coming up in the Top 10 - from Gotye, One Direction, and Neon Trees. #11 Demi Lovato, "Give Your Heart a Break"[/b][/u] Meanwhile at #11, here's Demi Lovato singing "Give Your Heart a Break".

Demi took that song to #1 for four weeks back in September, and "Give Your Heart a Break" comes in at #11 for the year.
Well, we're three-quarters of the way through my year-end recap of my 40 biggest songs of the year! Just ten hits to go on our way to my #1 song of the year. The countdown will continue, in just a moment.

We're up to the final hour, my top ten songs of the year - our main course! In this hour: The longest-running #1 hit of the year. The biggest #1 hit from an act hitting the top on their first time out. Two songs that set new chart records for the longest trek to the top. The song that set multiple new chart records for its singer...and much, much more! And what better way to kick off the Top 10 - than with the song named by Mediabase 24/7, as the #1 Pop song of the year? #10 Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris, "We Found Love"[/b][/u] We heard from Calvin Harris back at #38, and from Rihanna back at #30. Now - here they are together, with a song they took to #1 here back in February. At #10 - "We Found Love"!

At #10 for the year, "We Found Love" by Rihanna, featuring Calvin Harris. And you know...when it was heading down in the top ten, I gave it a bit of a second wind - nearly took it all the way back to the top! Didn't make it back, but it looks like that sure helped nonetheless. At #9 is a song that I've noticed that many of us have put at #1 on our own charts for many weeks in a row after it was released. And my chart was no different - this song spent four weeks there back in the early fall. Love it...hate it...this song has sure inspired equal amounts of reaction from both sides on this board. #9 Taylor Swift, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"[/b][/u] At #9 for the year is the second appearance from Taylor Swift in my year-end survey with her polarizing smash, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"!

Mike's 40 biggest, countin' 'em down. Back at #22, I mentioned that Tristan Prettyman once dated Jason Mraz. They're not together anymore - they broke up during the middle of last year. But, I also mentioned that his song failed to hit #1 on my chart this year, while hers didn't. But what do you know - his song turns out to be the biggest song of the year that didn't hit #1! It spent four weeks at #3 back in the Spring. #8 Jason Mraz, "I Won't Give Up"[/b][/u] At #8 for the year, here's Jason, with "I Won't Give Up".

Jason had had two songs that went to #10 following his big smash "The Remedy", which hit #1 here back in 2003. Looked like this one might follow that one to #1 - but alas, the competition was too strong for him. Still, he's taken it to #8 for the year, so it looks like he didn't come away any worse for the wear. Nothing but #1s from here on out, and next is a song that initially set the record for the longest climb to get there. It needed 17 weeks to hit the top! When it debuted back in March, I...thought it was okay, but I was only marginally into it. But over time...it grew on me, and unlike fun.'s huge Pop smash from around that time, this song kept going and going up - until finally on July 7, it hit #1 here on Mike's Top 20. #7 Gotye featuring Kimbra, "Somebody That I Used to Know"[/b][/u] The seventh biggest hit on my chart for the year is "Somebody That I Used to Know", by Gotye featuring Kimbra.

He's the only Australian in my year-end survey, and his song is the one that Billboard magazine named as top song of the year. On Mike's Top 20, Gotye and Kimbra come in at #7 for the year with "Somebody That I Used to Know". Next here on my year-end countdown is an act who pulled off a bit of an interesting chart feat for this year. This group sent more songs into the Top 20 during the year than any other - four of them. But, only one of the four made it into the Top 40 of the year. The first one...hit back in the Spring, and by the end of June, it had spent two weeks up at #1. The next two singles that then followed...well, unfortunately they couldn't quite make it out of the mid-teens. That's really...not the way to go, eh? The fourth, is a song that actually debuted just last week, so that one will be gearing up for next year. And hopefully...that one will do better for them, huh? That #1 smash that I mentioned, though, comes in at #6 for the year - here are Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, and Zayn Malik: #6 One Direction, "What Makes You Beautiful"[/b][/u] Known simply, as One Direction. Together, they sing "What Makes You Beautiful"!

Five guys - One Direction: Add it all together and "What Makes You Beautiful" gives you the sixth biggest hit of the year on my chart. And you know, back at #33 I suggested that maybe we might be hearing more from Ed Sheeran during the next year. Well, he co-wrote their new song "Little Things", which as I mentioned just debuted last week, so - there you go!
Up next: The song that set two new chart records here on Mike's Top 20.
