Very glad/surprised to see Taylor top 10 :0 :) That was a very close finish, actually - only one point separates each of the songs from #12, #11, #10, and #9. :o For that matter: #29, #28, and #27 were also a three-way tie. But as each of them had different peak positions, that was the tiebreaker there. :)

Reflecting on the year gone by, it's Mike, counting down my 40 biggest. #5 Katy Perry, "Wide Awake"[/b][/u] At #5, is the song that set two new chart records for Katy Perry, and actually tied a third. Back at the beginning of June, Katy debuted on my chart with her seventh song from her album Teenage Dream, called "Wide Awake". ("California Gurls", a song I still can't stand, naturally failed to chart.) That put her into another tie with Avril Lavigne, this one for most charting songs from one album. Avril did it back in 2002 through 2004 with her album Let Go. As Katy went upward with her song, it looked like she might set a new all-time record for most #1 songs from one album with six - and on the week ending August 19, she did just that. And at the same time, she tied another chart record then held by Train, for the longest consecutive duration of time spent in my Top 20. They spent two years straight - all of 2010 and 2011, on my chart with the four hits from Save Me, San Francisco. When Katy spent her second week on top with "Wide Awake", she extended her stay to two full years - and one week! She would go on to clock in at 119 consecutive weeks, before she finally fell out on the second week of December. But, what a run she's had! Here she is now, with her third and biggest hit of the year...and the fifth biggest, overall!

She'll no doubt be missed over the next year - but with this song and others, she's sure given this chart something to remember her by. At #5 for the year, "Wide Awake" by Katy Perry.
Up next: The longest-running #1 song of the year...by the top artist of the year!

Mike here, counting down my 40 biggest songs of the 2012 chart year. And y'know...sometimes a song will come along that hits my chart, starts going upward, then it's like - something must have happened, because suddenly I'll propel it right up to #1. And that's what this next song did back in May. She leaped from #8 to #1 in one week with it, and stayed there for six weeks - more than any other this year. #4 Adele, "Rumour Has It"[/b][/u] At #4 for the year, here's the second appearance from the chart's top artist of the year - "Rumour Has It" that it's Adele!(I wanted the "clip with lyrics", but that has a "CLICK HERE FOR HAPPINESS!!!!!" link that comes up right at the beginning. Uh......no thank you. )

The fourth biggest song of the year - Adele's "Rumour Has It", a song that had a great deal of staying power even after it had fallen from #1. But talk about staying power...look no further than our next song here in my year-end countdown. This song spent 32 weeks on my chart this year, more than any other. Now, I mentioned that "Not Over You" by Gavin DeGraw spent 35 weeks on the chart, but that's including the weeks it spent on the chart last year. This song debuted on my chart on the first week of the year, and it went on to spend five weeks...at #1. #3 Christina Perri, "A Thousand Years"[/b][/u] My top ballad of the year - at #3, Christina Perri's "A Thousand Years".

At #3 for the year, "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri. It's also the year's top movie song.
Well, we've got just two hits to go in my year-end countdown. And one of them is from the band who took the top prize with one of their songs last year! Will they make it two in a row? Hmmmmmmm......

(Seriously, Firefox...I'VE HAD IT WITH YOUR GOD-DAMNED FUCKERY TODAY. >:( >:( >:()Well, we're down now to the nitty-gritty. The cream of the crop, the tip of the top, the two biggest songs of the year. Last year, this band had the #1 song of the year with the title track from their hit album Save Me, San Francisco. But this year...they came just two points short, of making it two years in a row at the top. #2 Train, "Drive By"[/b][/u] The second biggest hit of the year is by: Train. It's "Drive By".

With a song they took to #1 for three weeks back in the Spring, that's Train at #2 for the year with "Drive By". And now...we have arrived, at the peak of the mountain. And in a year of record-setting...this one added its own contribution to the mix. This song took a total of 20 weeks to reach the top spot, where it spent but two weeks. But as they say...patience is a virtue, and this song had to wait for five weeks in the runner-up position, behind two different #1 songs, before it could seize that top spot all for itself. This year we've had songs about love, heartbreak, rumors on both sides, and just keeping your eyes open to it all - and you know...in a year of rumor-mongering, people gossiping, politicians flapping their gums, and a cast of other sorts of characters just yapping themselves into high holy messes of trouble... :kii: I think the title of this song sums it up best: My #1 song for all of 2012 is: "Everybody Talks"...by: Neon Trees. #1 Neon Trees, "Everybody Talks"[/b][/u][/url]

#1 for the year 2012 - Neon Trees, with "Everybody Talks". And you know...this song replaced the song that's now tops in my chart's history, Gavin DeGraw's "Not Over You", on my chart back on May 19. How fitting is that, that its replacement, was the same song that's now gone on to become tops...for this year? And...that's it, that's all of them, the be-all and end-all, 40 biggest hits of the year on Mike's Top 20 for the year 2012! For those of you who've been following along as I've counted 'em down: Hope you enjoyed coming along for the ride! :) (franklin, Codex, josh, jback...you guys are great! )For the rest of you who've tuned in later on and gone for the ride all at once: Don't be shy - feel free to chime in with your thoughts! :)

Rihanna?but Adele is good too! I don't have a complete listing saved anywhere, but I'd imagine that Rihanna, with her two #1s this year, has to be somewhere in the top five. While she's no Queen this year, this has actually been her best year on my chart thus far - but having said that, if I'd been running a chart in 2007 and 2008, either of those would have easily been her best years. I meant to calculate this out earlier in the week, but only got around to it today. These are my Top 5 artists of 2012: #5 - Neon Trees (!) #4 - Rihanna #3 - Katy Perry #2 - Train #1 - Adele As I mentioned during the countdown, Katy finished only around 20 points behind both Train and Adele. It's over a 200-point drop down to Rihanna at #4. :o As for Neon Trees: "Everybody Talks" scored more points all by itself than most other artists did all year. But, it was the debut of "Lessons in Love" in December that supplied the difference above their next two closest, Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris.

BTW, I didn't know it was live :o Hee hee, I figured it'd be easier to do that way because it was only a Top 40, thus to get it all in over 4 hours isn't that much of a stretch. :)
