Bruno Mars' performance slayed. Miguel is going to get the most press for his fall. Get that buzz!!
Everyone else was boring. LOL @ Billboard giving out R&B awards to anyone these days. #shame

How much of a sales boost does the BMA give? Or does it not boost sales at all?

Two more flawless queens... Erykah & Janelle! I was thinking Miguel and Prince.

"Milestone" Award awarded to Justin Bieber = Credibility Gone Up Next: The Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award goes to...Justin Bieber! The two classiest women there tonight: Shania Twain and Celine Dion
Wayne Newton's plastic surgeon(s) needs to have his/her/their medical license(s) revoked. Horrible! It's was all staged.

The thing is is that if Justin is an "artist", he doesn't have much vision or originality. He should stop trying to be deep and full of himself on it (with those sunglasses and that expression. uhh..) and just focus on being an entertainer, where it's something he can shine with.

This show confirmed for me that 'Harlem Shake' and its massive first week youtube points won't be song of the year for chart year 2013 based on that week (or the first two), as some were projecting when it was #1.
If it wasn't big enough to overtake Gotye, it won't top Macklemore either

It spent 3 more weeks at #1 though, and it still stayed in the top 20 for a couple weeks after that.

It will still chart high but it won't beat Macklemore.
The last 3 weeks at #1 for Harlem Shake were just barely, the chart points on week 1 and 2 were huge. In theory, some were saying those two weeks by themselves would be enough to put it at #1. If those two HUGE weeks were not enough to unseat Gotye, it won't get to Macklemore either.
Meanwhile, Thrift Shop returned to #1 after Harlem Shake and even now is still in the top 10.
Thrift Shop is also the sales leader by a 2 to 1 margin

Hm.
Well, we know that it managed to get the top Dance/EDM song. Does Lights count as dance? Even if it's not, then it got more points than Starships, so it got around top 8 on the year end chart from 2 weeks. Factor in 3 more weeks at #1 (the third week was half as much as the first two, but that's still a huge amount, and the fourth and fifth were still huge weeks, small lead but Thrift Shop was massive)
Harlem Shake chart run (so far):
1-1-1-1-1-2-4-6-13-17-22-30-38
that's not too bad imo. I agree that it might not be #1 but I think it's a lock for #2.

Perhaps. I was comparing to just Macklemore(which in terms of numbers is on par with Gotye). Harlem Shake could indeed be as high as #2 at the end of the year

8:00 Billboard Music Awards- 3.6/9.47 million
The BMAs posted its best demo numbers in 10 years.
Surprising given how relatively little songs move on iTunes.

I wonder what it says about the music industry that Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift are the top winners at these award shows every year. Anyways...the wait for Prince is almost over. These awards are based on chart performance, not merit.

It's still only the morning after, so the songs shouldn't reach their peaks until this afternoon into tomorrow morning. Plus, it's only a 3.6 in the demo. For comparisons, the Grammys this year received a 10.1 in the demo. It did manage to beat out the AMAs this year, as it had a 3.4 in the demo. That's surprising. Obviously, it beat the awful VMAs this year with a 2.8. But this year's VMAs were on a Thursday, cut down an hour, and were just awful.

I had such a great time last night at the BBMAs! Will go back next year for sure! The crowd was wild and much louder than what you could hear on tv. The Bieber milestone award was crazy. The crowd booed and at one point it became a competition between fans and not fans to see who was the loudest.
I loved watching Christina, Jennifer, Nicki... The band Perry was great as well even if I'm not a fan... Loved my experience!

The Billboard Awards went from being the lowest rated of ALL the network award shows to beating out the VMA's and AMA's. Good for the producers.

Nicki Minaj , Lil Wayne & Chris Brown...Celine Gomez??? Tracy is a bit off Ha He also called Ke$ha 'Keisha' the first time he mentioned her. It's funny that he pronounced all of them correctly later on. Shania Twain = still an ageless Aphrodite. I was hoping she would perform or something. Is Chris Brown actually singing live? :O He sounds like s**t lmao He sounded okay at certain times, but it wasn't good overall. :( ok how much is madonna paying billboard for this commercial for her tour DVD... seriously. It also serves as free advertising for her next tour. It shows people what they missed. lol this acceptance speech I am one of her biggest fans, but I thought the speech seemed really unpolished and lacking fluidity. Considering she performed for audiences of over 50,000+ during the tour, this should have been easy. I guess she also had to worry about not using profanity during her speech as she tends to say what she wants (i.e. the Anderson Cooper speech at the GLAAD event). will.i.am seemed totally uncomfortable next to her for some reason. Why would they perform Feel This Moment now? Isnt it recurrent by now? He better be tacked onto something new with her to show off her improved figure. Maybe they made.a new song, she can form a trio with pitbull and j.lo. I just wish she would focus on being the lead artist all ready. I wish she had done one of her own songs. Perhaps they are 100% done with the Lotus album now. :( I think they didn't have her do "Let There Be Love" which is a club single right now because of the hot mess performance she did at the AMAs looking like that. She looked amazing this time though. Is this one of those awards where only the people who show up win? LOL, no. :) There were some winners who weren't there, like Rihanna for example. The awards are based on who was number one for the tracking period for each respective award. For those of us who follow the charts quite regularly, the winners are pretty obvious and there really are no surprises. LEGEND + LEGEND = PRINCE & HIS GUITAR That was epic!!! I kept hoping for a "Purple Rain" finale. He is still amazing after all these years. The Billboard Awards went from being the lowest rated of ALL the network award shows to beating out the VMA's and AMA's. Good for the producers. Minus Tracy's awful hosting, the telecast moved along quite quickly and it was entertaining overall. Perhaps they should have Madonna, Celine, Shania, Prince, Shania, Erykah, and Jennifer Lopez at every awards show. ???

Somehow, this was the most entertaining awards show I have watched (or semi-watched) in a long time. It feels like they got lucky a few times (like, I am sure they didn't stage Miquel tackling some girl or Taylor sticking her tongue out at Justin) but for some reason it just worked this year.

Kid Rock had the best line of the night. Something like "let's hear it for all the lipsyncers to pre-recorded tracks". The show sucked. There was no rock presence. Its pathetic what "music" has become. Justin Bieber an "artist"?? There were very few of them there thanks to Prince, Madonna, Shania, Celine.
Hats off to Bruno Mars, the Band Perry and that country girl Kayce.

J.Lo's boot coming apart halfway through her performance, and that watching her try to dance through it was hilarious. Someone got fired for that!

Miguel's Leg Drop Victim May Have Suffered Brain Damage, Might SueThe Huffington Post | By Kia Makarechi Posted: 06/04/2013 11:24 am EDT | Updated: 06/04/2013 6:15 pm EDT Miguel's "leg drop" victim might sue. The young lady who was on the receiving end of Miguel's leg drop at the Billboard Music Awards may have suffered brain damage from the incident. Khyati Shah's lawyer tells TMZ that Shah is still suffering as a result of the incident. "Some of the difficulties she's experiencing are cognitive in nature and lead to suspicion of a neurological head injury," he said. Immediately after the incident, Shah was given an ice pack that her attorney says was designed for an elbow, rather than being rushed to the hospital. Miguel appeared in a backstage interview with Shah and expressed his concern, but the general -- and now obviously disproven -- consensus was that she was fine. Miguel himself tweeted that he "got caught up in the moment" and said Shah was "okay." The incident instantly became a meme on Twitter and Instagram, with many users uploading photos transposing Miguel's mid-air body onto different photos. Shah will wait to decide to sue until she receives word from her neurologist. For more, head over to TMZ.Source
