How much did his debut open with? Justified debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, selling 439,000 copies in its opening week. It went on to sell over 3.5 million copies in the US, and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The album received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised its production but criticised some of its lyrical content. As of 2011, it has sold over seven million copies worldwide. from wikipedia Wow. An album sells 439,000 copies in a week and debuts at #2. Duuude. Sounds fascinating now but it was completely normal back then. In fact I looked more into this and the album that blocked "Justifed" was the "8 Mile" soundtrack, which was in its second week and sold 508,000 units :o It debuted the week before with sales of 702,000. ("The Eminem Show" was also the best selling album of the year.)

Pink Friday debuted at #2 with 375,000. That's the most recent similar situation I can think of. Kanye was #1 with 496,000.

But maybe Adele and Taylor Swift have made it known they are and i just missed it. haha. Seriously, the Album Of The Year category at the 2014 Grammys could be loaded. Will be interesting... But yeah, Em, Adele, and Swifty imo will be the only ones to challenge JT in first week sales. imo.

Justin has always been a huge album seller. I understand that people underestimated him after the rather "disappointing" opening numbers from Alicia Keys and Bruno Mars last holiday, but the fact is, even without a hit, Justin Timberlake will sell like hotcakes, no matter how frontloaded it may be. I mean, it's been 7 years without an album from him so the demand is definitely there. Plus, he's already a brand. He's Justin-f*****g-Timberlake. Plus, a lot of people know that everything JT puts out is "quality" and worth every single penny they spend for. Unless it's a movie.

Christmas week 2005: Carrie Underwood's Some Hearts sells 400,000 copies and lands at #4 on the chart. 8 Mile also caused Christina Aguilera's Stripped to peak at #2. It sold 331,000 copies its debut week.

How often has an artist had each album sell more upon release? Justified opened big enough with 440,000 and then FSLS opened even bigger with 680,000 and now 20/20 seems on track to open even bigger. Who saw this coming? And I don't even think you can credit promo because he promoted harder with the prior two.

^Yes, thank you.
Taylor Swift will not have an album out this year.
I doubt Adele will have anything out, but you know her label wants that album out in November.

Regarding the state of the industry a decade or so ago, didn't 1 by the Beatles increase in its second week from around 500, 000 to 600, 000, but still fell to number two because the Backstreet Boys debuted with about one million in the same week?
That's one chart fact that's always cracked me up.

Taylor will almost for sure have a re-release or Tour DVD. I think it looks like a re-release, she's got new music she's recorded, I believe. And I think Adele said she's just being a mom right now, so I don't expect music until next year at least.

I swear there was one week where BSB sold an insane amount of cds and were still #2 because they were behind The Beatles-like, sold 800K cds on a non-debut week and still landed at #2. I always forget just how much BSB and the Beatles sold during that time period.

If Eminem puts out a new album, we'll have another album that'll scan 2 million. I think GaGa's new album will only scan a little north of 1 million. *ducks*

MID-WEEKS: JT MAKING HISTORY
"20/20 Experience" Will Have Decade's Fifth-Biggest Bow; Musgraves, Expanded "Les Mis" Also Debut
March 21, 2013
It just keeps getting bigger.
As of now, it appears that Justin Timberlake will score the fifth-biggest debut of this decade, behind only two Taylor Swift albums (1.2m, 1.05m) and one each from Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne (1.1m, 964k).
The killer bow of The 20/20 Experience will also give Sony Music four of the Top 10 biggest debuts since 2010. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:
*Justin Timberlake (RCA) 800-850k Bruno Mars (Atlantic) 37-42k Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville) 35-40k *Kacey Musgraves (Mercury Nashville) 35-40k Bon Jovi (Island/IDJ) 32-37k P!nk (RCA) 29-33k *Les Miserables (Republic) 25-28k Rihanna (Def Jam/IDJ) 24-27k Mumford & Sons (Glassnote) 24-27k Imagine Dragons (Interscope) 24-27k David Bowie (Columbia) 21-24k Now 45 (Capitol) 21-24k Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (Macklemore) 19-22k Fun. (Atlantic) 19-22k Florida Georgia Line (Big Machine/Republic Nashville) 18-21k
* Debuts
It also bears mentioning that in addition to the #1 album at iTunes, Timberlake also has the #1 ("Suit & Tie"), #5 ("Mirrors") and #23 ("Pusher Love Girl") singles.

Didn't Shania Twain's GH sell over 500K, but got trumped from #1 because Eminem's CD got moved from Monday to Friday because of leaks? I kind of remember that story.

I remember his album Encore being rush-released because it got on the Internet, so it might've been that? The album was released in 2004.

I was never a hardcore Justin fan (especially solo) but I congratulate him on his selling power.
Every single one of his records is multi-platinum or at least will be multi-platinum.
