This is the first time since 1998-2002 that we'll potentially have four consecutive years of 1 million+ openers.

Even though under a million may seem like a minor let down after the projections these last few days, I would've never guessed the album could approach over 600k let alone 975k

Seems like one of this situations where it's going to surprise everyone and just cross 1 million when the final numbers are in.

2000 was such an unusual year with all those million+ sellers. But with the exception of the Beatles, I attribute much of 99-02's huge openings to the strength of TRL in helping cement hardcore fanbases for multiple acts at once. As for the current streak I think it's kind of the same...without one specific source it's a bit more staggered, but certain artists have managed to build up sizable and very loyal followings; a big marketing blitz, big lead singles, and a bunch of goodwill from a previously huge era all combine to bring in the anticipation and sales needed from more casual fans to go over the 1m threshold. That is something that is possible in any sales climate. It's just a shame that continuing sales will likely not be anywhere near what those earlier albums did. That's where the decline in music sales reveals itself. Anything between 950-999k would be a bummer- you craze or sumthin'? I suppose "bummer" isn't really the right word lol, but I think it's probably the same mentality that causes silver medalists to be more frustrated than bronze, coming so close to a certain mark and just miss it. Wow! That's great for him. Hopefully the success of pt. 1 makes him reconsider releasing pt. 2 this year. That would likely depend on how much momentum pt. 1 still has in it by August or September (which is when the lead single for a November pt. 2 release should be ready).

I don't want Timberlake to have a million selling album. So even if it's 1k short ill be celebrating. But i will give credit to him, it's amazing he sold this much imo. He proved me way wrong as far as his likeability. I guess i have hated Timberlake since 1999 that i refused to give him credit for a long time. Looks like i can't do that anymore. Dude is here to stay. Like it or not. Also, credit to his promotion team big time. 2M said it well, great Marketing. I just hope Eminem's label has as good of marketing for his next album, doubt he will, the way they crapped the bed on Yelawolf and Slaughterhouse.

Eminem won't have JT-style marketing, but that's because Em is not nearly as middle-america friendly. I wouldn't let Interscope's failures with Yelawolf (who's album definitely had potential to sell much better had it been properly promoted) or Slaughterhouse (who, let's face it, never are going to be huge) get you down- Eminem is the man over there, and they wouldn't waste his potential.

I still think Eminem could host SNL. And i think SNL would let him. But Eminem doesn't seem to like to do that stuff as well. JT seems to have a more open mind of doing things. I guess that plays a role as well.
Also, I don't make assumptions to HITS numbers at 69%. Who knows how much they have left. Looking at those numbers, i wonder how close they are to final.
Also, jgizzle89, I never expected them to be huge. But when you see the numbers ASAP Rocky did and other new major label rappers. In the 150k range. Slaughterhouse should have at least did that and not under 50k.

Yes, shocked we have not had a report yet. Usually the sellers who come close to a million have something out monday night.
Remember when Recovery came out, there was a press release on monday with quotes from Jimmy Iovine. And i have seen others since do the same. So i would think JTs label releases it soon or something.

Speaking of that,
If this were to get 1 million (and it likely won't)
Justin Timberlake would move past Emimen (and Taylor Swift) for most albums above 1 mllion in a week

Yes, since this happens fairly frequently now at some point we no longer need to point to the following cliches: "It is amazing even in a down economy and a depressed sales climate..." "Selling 1 million copies in 2013 is like selling 2 or 3 million in 2000" Basically, there is still a demand for music and likely there always will be. These frequent million (or close to it ) weeks proves one thing: If you bring it, they will come.

Wouldn't care to specualte on a partial chart but I can say for certainty --- NO
For example, the week No Strings Attached hit 2.4 million, #2 was below 1 million.
Right there that is a difference in excess of at least 1.4 million
