Four but who's counting Cooler Than Me Please Don't Go Bow Chicka Wow Wow I Took A Pill In Ibiza The "wonder" piece of this I guess is a matter of opinion I would count BCWW, don't think it made top 40 and if it did it barely scrapped it If it hit the top 40 but it is not remembered did it still happen? This is the point where "one hit wonder"-type definitions tend to break down There is no official definition but there are popular ones. Top 40 of the Hot 100 works for some but then you assume if it hits #40 or higher then it is a hit, otherwise it is not. But then if it hits #40 or higher (as is the case here) and it is not "remembered" then that doesn't count. So the definition then becomes one of opinion anyway. (BTW- Bow Chicka Wow Wow got to #30 and was #40 or higher for four weeks of its 16 week run.) As I have done this conversation many times before I will bow out here since I know where this is going. In the end, a "hit" and its definition is a matter of opinion. What is a "One-hit wonder", "Two-hit" etc. Also an opinion. Because it comes down to, What is a "hit"?

If you're going to make that argument, I could fairly call Nirvana a one hit wonder for "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Journey for "Don't Stop Believin'" I love when stuff is taken out of context. I was responding to a previous person who was discounting a song that peaked in the 30s as a hit because it didn't stay around long and this person had a difficult time remembering it. This hits right to the point about how all "one hit wonder" discussions will go. - There is no standard definition of "one hit wonder"
- There is also no standard definition of "hit" or I guess even "wonder", although "one" seems pretty clear - LOL
- Opinions come into play quite often - everyone is right and those with different opinions are wrong
Until the industry says a "hit" is peaking in the top 40 on the Hot 100 and ONLY the Hot 100 and if you only have one of these then you are indeed a "one hit wonder", there will be a difference of opinion.
There have in fact been industry lists with criteria other than "top 40" for starters

Bitch please. Is your only exposure to music your top 40 station?

Bitch please. Is your only exposure to music your top 40 station? I'm an avid alt-rock radio listener and Nirvana are mainstays on there (for more than just SLTS) so I know their other songs, but those who don't listen to alt-rock radio only remember SLTS. And as for Journey, the only other song by them that I can even name is "Faithfully" and I only know that song cuz Hollie Cavanagh sang it on American Idol back in 2012 and I had the hugest crush on her at the time. P.S. If we go by the strict top 40 definition, Nirvana would be a two hit wonder, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Come as You Are" were their only songs to go top 40.

Cher Lloyd has two hits now: "Want You Back" (#12) and a feature on "Really Don't Care" (#26). Have you ever heard of Oath which peaked at #73 but did a lot better on Pop?

Tove Lo? Habits and Talking Body So we aren't counting features for this thread? I mean even if she was just a featured artist on Heroes it's not like it would have charted without her.
