If you're just entering this thread for the first time, WELCOME! My name's Red, and some of you may know me as a long-time member of ATRL. To those of you who either post there or used to post there, it's nice to see you all over here. If this is your first time seeing me post, it's nice to meet you. And please, don't burn me at the stake because of my forum affiliation. Over the last 10+ years, I've been putting together some form of personal chart. For years, I was focused on putting together daily charts, but, as my life becomes more hectic and busy, I've had to scale back to weekly charts. I've done many charts over the years, but I have to say that this current one is my favorite. Over the past year or so, I've also been browsing Pulse a lot, though as a guest. I love checking out which songs are being released to the radio, and I particularly enjoy that you can find radio information for multiple genres. Simply put, I love the info that one can get from a forum such as this, and I can't wait to post here more often. Some quick questions to address (updated 8/18/15): What are your requirements for making the Red 50?The only major requirement is that the song must be a current single, either with radio play or without, or it must have a video. I used to allow all songs that get played on the radio onto the Red 50, but songs that only have been played on the radio and not announced as actual singles will only make the 50 now in special cases. Other than that, it's fair game. Any current single from any genre can chart. What kind of music can be found on the Red 50, and do you have any specific music preference?Like I said, any single from any genre is possible. My genre of choice is rock, however, and the majority of the songs at any given point on the Red 50 will be rock-oriented. But, as you'll see, I do like my fair share of non-rock songs. It's just that rock and its many sub-genres gives me the most enjoyment as a music fan. My rock fandom goes through stages. Currently, I tend to like alternative-leaning songs and hard rock the most. Surprisingly, this hasn't really changed in the two years since I first made this post. When is the Red 50 posted?I offer no promises. I will try to post the Red 40 every Saturday here on Pulse (and if it's not in this thread, it'll be in the weekly Alternative/Rock personal charts thread over in the Alt/Rock/Triple A forum), but there's a decent chance it won't happen every week. Fingers crossed that I will post it more often. Why are you posting the Red 50 here on Pulse?Well, it's mostly because I really like Pulse. I'd like to think that, if I didn't meet so many good friends over at ATRL over the years, I would have made Pulse my home forum a long time ago. I love the idea of being able to discuss music more seriously as well, so there's that. There's just lots to like about Pulse, to be honest. So you only do a text version, right? As of right now, yes. I used to make videos to accompany the text version of the Red 50, but I just don't have the time anymore to do the work needed to put in my best effort with the videos. Maybe the videos will come back someday, but I wouldn't count on it happening any time soon. Wait...wasn't this a top 40 before?Yes...yes, it was. But the funny thing about browsing Pulse more frequently, as I have been recently, is that you tend to be exposed to more music the more you browse. After some careful consideration, I decided that I was listening to more than enough music to bump the countdown up to a top 50! Will you ever consider another bump to a higher number, like 75 or 100?The move to make the Red 40 a top 50 countdown was not something I took lightly, as 40 had been more than serviceable for years. I can't imagine that I'll be making a similar jump up to a higher number in the foreseeable future, but hey, if I could add another ten songs recently, anything's possible, right? Okay, I've already been talking enough. I'm going to make a second post to be reserved for special statistics (Songs that hit #1, songs that peaked at #1, longest-running songs, etc.), and then, after that, I'll get the first Red 40 on Pulse up and running! I hope to see you there. :)

Hmm not a lot in common in our tastes but these songs are pretty great. :) Considering that "Figure 8" and "Little Talks" were both #1s on your chart, I'd say we have more in common than you may think. :)) I'm already getting prepped for both the text and video versions of this week's Red 40. I get so (sadly) excited around this point of the week!

OMG, Red! I definitely remember you from my ATRL days! Glad to see you've migrated over here! 11 | 16 | 04 | 11 "Demons" - Imagine Dragons 24 | 21 | 25 | 01 "Radioactive" - Imagine Dragons (Four Weeks At #1) 25 | 20 | 12 | 03 "Sweater Weather" - The Neighbourhood 30 | 36 | 02 | 30 "Can't Hold Us" - Macklemore and Ryan Lewis ft. Ray Dalton 40 | 37 | 17 | 07 "Thrift Shop" - Macklemore and Ryan Lewis ft. Wanz Can't say I'm a huge fan of your chart, but I think it's mostly because I don't know most of the songs rather than not liking them. I'll have to check out your video every once in awhile to find some new music. I'm already getting prepped for both the text and video versions of this week's Red 40. I get so (sadly) excited around this point of the week! LOL, I know exactly how you feel. Every Sunday morning, I wake up excited to do my chart. I don't know why, but it's just such a blast to do for some reason.

Off: Macklemore and Ryan Lewis ft. Wanz - Thrift Shop (17 Weeks | Peak: #7 | Last Week: #40)Depeche Mode - Heaven (15 Weeks | Peak: #3 | Last Week: #37 Let's Talk Red 40!
Anyone who has looked at the special statistics post of the Red 40 thread (that would be the second post on this page) knows that Muse tends to dominate the Red 40. "Madness" was the longest-running #1 in the history of the chart, while "Panic Station" and "Follow Me" would stay at the top for a combined three months. The reason I bring this up is that there's a good chance that "Supremacy" may only land a single week at the top, which is incredible given their history here. The problem that stands in their way of multiple weeks at the top is the newest #1 of the Red 40, Daft Punk's "Get Lucky". The song has just completely ensnared me over the last month, and it shows no signs of slowing down. There's a slew of competitors looking to dethrone the new king, however, so it probably shouldn't rest on its laurels too much.
The nearest competitor sits just two slots below in Queens of the Stone Age. Their latest album, ...Like Clockwork, will be released on June 3rd, and "My God Is the Sun" is the perfect choice for a first single from the album. It's hard-hitting, it's catchy, it's kind of creepy, it's everything I love about the band. Can it hit #1, though? I'm not sure. Daft Punk is a particularly strong #1. But Queens has as good of a chance as any to make it there.
Perhaps the next big competitor for the #1 spot is the song that made the biggest move into the top ten this week. "Demons" is the second top ten Red 40 hit for Imagine Dragons. Given that their first top 10 song was #1 for a combined month, it's possible that "Demons" could follow suit, despite being an entirely different song than its predecessor. With its five spot move to #6, however, there's little doubt that it's, if nothing else, a contender.
But the song with the biggest move this week is one that isn't in the top 10, though it came pretty close to getting there in just its second week. Alice in Chains previously hit the top five of the Red 40 with "Hollow", but "Stone" looks to be an even bigger hit on the chart. Its 14 spot jump is one of the largest in Red 40 history, and it could make another massive jump next week. If there is any song that you need to watch out for as a future #1 possibility, "Stone" may just be it.
There were some other songs that made some nice moves this week. "Can't Hold Us", the current #1 song in America, vaulted close to the top 20, and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were joined by another power duo in Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding with "I Need Your Love". Both look to easily make a move into the top 20 next week. Fitz and the Tantrums pulled off a rarity by returning to the top 20 after falling out, if only briefly, with "Out of My League". It could be looking at an extended top ten run after making a brief appearance there a month ago.
There were also two debuts that look to make a mark on the Red 40 quickly. Jimmy Eat World is back, and I cannot be happier about that fact. "I Will Steal You Back" is a great first single from a band with quite a few good ones, and I can't wait to see how it moves up as its chart run progresses. But Jimmy Eat World did not have the highest debut. That distinction belongs to Canadian artist Serena Ryder, whose "Stompa" is currently #1 on Triple A radio. I will readily admit that I was kind of late with the song, but perhaps that's a good thing for Serena, as, historically, songs I've caught on to late have had a tendency to soar up the Red 40. We'll see if "Stompa" follows suit over the coming months.
All I needed to see was the cat in your avatar to know exactly who you are. Or, at least, I think you're tcatron, right? If it is, nice to see you again. If not...nice to see you again, whoever you are.

- "Get Lucky" reaches #1. Yes! - "Supremacy" slips a spot, as well as "Up in the Air". The latter needs to climb back. - "Demons" is Top 10 and "Same Love" is Top 20. Good. - Hope "Explosions" could rebound, as well as "Why Am I the One". - "Panic Station" stays in the Top 20. - "I Need Your Love" and "Can't Hold Us" are close to be Top 20 :) - "King and Lionheart" jumps, as well as "Thiskidsnotalright". - "Radioactive" holds in the Top 30 and "Mountain Sound" in the Top 40. - "Stompa" debuts. Great.

So, um, I never meant for this thread to die the quick death it did, but life tends to get in the way for me around summertime. Well, with fall around the corner, I think it's about time to dust the cobwebs off this bad boy. And what better way to do that than with this week's top 40? Sadly, I can't provide a video version, at the moment. It's not that I don't still put together video versions. I do, actually. The issue is that the internet I currently have doesn't really have a high upload speed, meaning that it would take a LONG time to upload videos currently. So, for now, it's just the text version. I'm sure you'll enjoy it just fine. :) The Red 40Week of August 3rd, 2013

Off: Muse - Supremacy (15 Weeks | Peak: #1(1 Week) | Last Week: #40) Calvin Harris ft. Ellie Goulding - I Need Your Love (13 Weeks | Peak: #7 | Last Week: #39)Let's Talk Red 40!Well, after that long layoff, we return with a bang with one of the most competitive Red 40s I can recall. We start at the very top with the #1 song, Pearl Jam's "Mind Your Manners". It's a hell of a return single for the long-time gurus of grunge, as it serves as somewhat of a spiritual successor to Vitalogy's "Spin the Black Circle", but catchier...and a little less frantic and rough around the edges. Being a big Pearl Jam fan for many years now, hearing this song for the first time was one of my favorite music experiences of the year. The boys are BACK, and I cannot wait for Lightning Bolt to drop later this year. The competition below the Seattle band is incredibly fierce, however. At #2 sits a song that has really won me over over the last two months in "Pompeii" by Bastille. I was kind of late catching on to this song, but I guess that's a symptom I'm never going to shake. Then again, it's only just now taking off in the US, so perhaps I'm not THAT behind after all. (Or, really, this is just another case of the US being far behind the rest of the world. Either or works.) Bastille may have a short stay in the penultimate spot, however, as Franz Ferdinand is moving up the chart FAST. Well, actually, TWO Franz Ferdinand songs are moving up the Red 40 at a rapid pace, but "Love Illumination" has been the stronger single out of the box, and it's poised to pose quite the threat to Pearl Jam at the top spot at #3. As I've alluded to, however, "Love Illumination" is not the only Franz Ferdinand single making a big splash right now, as "Right Action" is up to #7 this week. I doubt we'll see an all-Franz top two, but it's very possible (and, honestly, likely) that we'll see two Franz songs in the top five, which would be only the third time that's happened in Red 40 history (the other two times? Foster the People in the first week of 2012 and Muse earlier this year). Meanwhile, two artists that are experiencing success for the first time on the Red 40 are making consistent strides up the top 10. Sick Puppies are making their first dent on ANY chart of mine (and a rather large one) with "There's No Going Back", their first single off of their latest album Contact. I'll be the first person to admit that I'm a little surprised that this song has latched on to me as much as it has, but I won't complain about such a catchy rock song refusing to leave my conscious. Meanwhile, right outside of the top five, Crystal Castles are making a hard push for a very high finish with "Affection". I had pegged this song for big things even before its debut, but it seemed as if it was going to fizzle out after a month or so of stalling/inaction in the lower-half of the Red 40. Recently, though, "Affection" has become perhaps my most played song over the last couple of weeks, and it now has a very real shot at the #1 spot. And don't look now, but there are some more interesting contenders right around the entrance of the top ten. Crash Kings, the LA band that provided us the Alt hit "Mountain Man", is back with the equally awesome "Hot Fire", which jumped into the top ten this week. Another song that jumped into the top ten comes from none other than Kanye West. "Black Skinhead" is yet another awesome single from a rapper with a series of them, and the thumping anthem stands to do even better over the next couple of weeks. Meanwhile, just out of the top ten, two singles from artists who have been staples on my countdowns over the years are ready to make big impacts with new singles: AFI with "I Hope You Suffer" and Paramore with "Ain't It Fun". But the biggest moves of all this week came from two decidedly different artists. Kings of Leon are back with one hell of a return single, "Supersoaker", and it makes a really nice nine spot jump into the top 20 this week...but it's not the biggest gain of the week. That belongs to Queens of the Stone Age with their upcoming next single "I Sat By the Ocean", which moved ten spots up to #21. Both songs are songs to keep an eye on in the coming weeks as potential #1 threats. As for debuts, there were only two this week, but both could make some noise on the Red 40. Sevendust is back on the Red 40 after hitting the top ten earlier this year with "Decay", and "Picture Perfect" has the ingredients (particularly its great chorus) to duplicate the run of "Decay". Meanwhile, The Wonder Years are making their Red 40 debut with the incredibly catchy "Passing Through A Screen Door". It doesn't look like it will make an impact on the radio, but it stands to make a HUGE impact on the Red 40. Top 10 is the absolute floor for this song. Finally, I want to take this time to ask YOU, my fellow chart-runners, to give me some recommendations. But not just any recommendations. I'm looking for pop singles. It's around this time of the year, normally, where I start to look for and listen to pop songs more regularly, and I need your help finding the best of the best pop singles out today. I also want to balance out the Red 40 a little bit, as only a few non-rock songs currently stand to fare very well in the immediate future on the Red 40. Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Hope Bastille reaches the top! Josh made some pretty good suggestions, but I'd also like to recommend Demi Lovato - "Heart Attack" OneRepublic - "Counting Stars" Austin Mahone - "What About Love" Jason Derulo - "The Other Side" Labrinth - "Beneath Your Beautiful" Miley Cyrus - "We Can't Stop" Robin Thicke - "Blurred Lines" Jay-Z - "Holy Grail" Fifth Harmony - "Miss Movin' On" Calvin Harris - "I Need Your Love" Florida Georgia Line - "Cruise" Justin Timberlake - "Tunnel Vision" :)

• "Pompeii" is so close to reach atop! • Great to see Franz Ferdinand tracks on your chart too. • "Supersoaker", "Lose Yourself to Dance" and "Burn" climb.
Regarding your question, Josh and Nick gave you good ones! I will replace "I Need Your Love" for "Thinking About You" by Calvin Harris featuring Ayah Marar because you already charted the former. Also, I don't know if you are looking for plain pop singles or kind of electro/dance pop singles. If it's the latter, I could recommend you to check some tracks from Disclosure, AlunaGeorge and Rudimental.

I also like that Zedd song, but I'm not sure if I like it enough to include it here. I've listened to most of the rest and they didn't really stand out to me, but I'll check out the Karmin song for sure, and probably the Demi song, too. INYL was already on the Red 40, and I don't really care for most of the rest or they are probably too old to make it...but you did remind me to check out "Take Back the Night"! Honestly, electro/dance pop is the way I usually go when it comes to pop nowadays (or it's always the pop that tends to do well here), so, by all means, recommend them. And I'll make sure to check out the Calvin song, because I've always liked him.
