Narcissist? Everyone around her also thought she had won for a split second, simply because it almost sounded like they were starting to say "Red". Taylor has been one of the biggest stars on the planet for quite a few years now, so obviously she isn't the same 16 year old girl who came onto the scene nearly 8 years ago. I think she's done a pretty good job of keeping her head on straight though, and is still extremely appreciative of her fans. I knew throwing the word narcissist out there would be controversial more or less, but I should clarify it wasn't the discussion of the grammy album of the year clip that lead to that generalization. It was that clip though that lead to a discussion about Taylor Swift with a coworker. As I stated before, I respect Taylor and actually like a lot of her music. It's just a generalized observation I have of her after watching her time and time again on TV, whether it be at a music award show or even the Golden Globes. Of course no one expects her to be this sweet little 16 year old girl anymore...she's maturing into an adult. I'm not even saying it's necessarily negative for her to be slightly narcissistic as it has lead her to write songs that have struck a chord with the audience. If anything she has turned it into a multi-million dollar positive. I remember watching the CMA's last year and looked right at Taylor when George's name was announced (she just cocked her head up in the air and grinned)…their is just something there that I can quite pinpoint but it's almost a glare that she gives when it's not her name announced. It could be nothing, but I've just seen it from Taylor one too many times over the years. There's also the way in which she writes her songs (which are outstanding) that is always about a devious ex…why is she always right and the boy always wrong? I also get a sense from her songs of a girl/woman dreaming of a great fantasy with unrealistic expectations. Again, all this analyzing could be nothing, but intuition says there's something there. All that to say…I love the song "All Too Well" and looking forward to hearing it on radio!

That's what I love the most about her, her acoustic performances, like the ones at the b-stage during the red tour. I wish everyone would get to see that. It's Taylor at her best. I totally agree, and the performance of "Red" at the CMA's was a perfect example of acoustic often being best. This is exactly what I mean. I just love her acoustic performances.

With that said, if people find that her biggest issue is "cocking her head up and grinning" when she doesn't win an award, then she is doing something right.

I don't feel that is people's biggest issue with her! It's all the drama she puts in her live performances that the people I've talked to have with her. Was all that head banging she did the other night really necessary to perform a song? She emits such a cocky, look at me I'm great attitude with some of her antics that turns people off. I have had people say to me that she does this to take attention away from her weak voice.
Anyhow, I know she's making millions and has a huge fan base all over, but I still don't get it. She's just too forward and overbearing to me, and I just don't care for that in an artist. I think her cuteness and her charisma draws in a lot of fans more than her genuine talents.
BTW...it is the media making such a big issue out her thinking she had won album than anybody else. I can see where that could have been confusing.

I think it is an average song compared to WANEGBT and IKYWT...

A few comments on the things discussed in the earlier posts.
1) Why is it wrong to be disappointed if you don't win something? That is not the same as narcissism. Cocking one's head up ang grinning seems like a fairly natural reaction when losing at an awards show. It is possible to be a gracious loser and disappointed at the same time.
2) I want to point out that not all Taylor's break-up songs depict the boy as the bad guy. Back To December and I Almost Do come swiftly to mind.
3) Taylor does seem to be a bit on the dratic side in her performances. I hope that's something that will change over the years.

So All Too Well just got added today to WSIX-FM's playlist, is it possible that this is a sign that BMR is planning on releasing ATW after all? It doesn't seem like they add non-singles to their rotation...

The fact remains that whether you really like her, somewhat like her, can't stand her or really don't care one way or another, she has brought tons of new listeners to the format as have Carrie, Miranda and other relative newcomers since 2005-06, so that in spite of the numerous episodes of blatant chart manipulation which you-know-who has engineered in order to get her to #1, she is beneficial to the format thanks partially to those blow-the-doors off opening week CD sales (loyal listeners willing to spend $$$ to support any artist is always a good thing) even if those dubious episodes wind up leaving a bad taste in the mouths of many of us including yours truly.
As I pointed out on the Carriefans board several months ago, KKGO here in LA, which has shared the most-listened to country station in America title for the past few years with WUSN/Chicago and KKBQ/Houston as it relative to cume (weekly cumulative listening audience), does play other tracks of hers including 'IKYWT' as well as 'Everything Has Changed' as well as 'WANEGBT' for the very simple reason that their 18-34 numbers are lousy because of LA's ethnic mix, and advertisers don't pursue folks over the age of 54. GoCountry 105 also plays live versions of many of her previous hits in order to boost their 12-24 numbers for both males & females (country ranks #1 in total listeners for young males and second to top 40 among young women), but with very anemic results, which explains why KKGO barely registers in any listening demo (translation--outside the top 20) younger than 35-54 or 35-64 in the nation's most closely watched and highest-billing radio market.
No other country station in the USA or any other radio station in a state as overflowing with Hispanics as Texas or California has the dismal numbers among under 25-listeners that KKGO has, so you really can't blame them for playing lots of her music in their quest for younger listeners.

Wished I could see what you guys see in Taylor Swift! Honestly, I'm not being mean or anything. I just don't see it. Just something about her is a turn off. All that head banging and hair flipping she did annoyed and distracted me. And I've seen her do it so much. I went to see her about 2 years ago and she was doing all this wild stuff on stage and beating on drums and had just about a whole circus on stage with her and I just didn't enjoy it. I know I'm in the minority and so many worship her, but I just will never understand. She is just too much of a drama queen in her performances and it's like she's acting. When she performed with Tim McGraw and Keith Urban on HDC on one of the award shows, I could barely stand to look at her performance. Don't jump on me people, but that's just my opinion. Maybe it's an age thing. Nah, I agree actually. I respect her talent and do enjoy some of her music ( Fearless was an amazing album), but ever since she dropped Red and "I Knew You Were Trouble" on us she has had this strange and odd "act" I guess you could call it. She has been almost cringeworthy to watch on tv, especially with her award show performances such as the other night. That being said, though, she can drop the entire act and out of nowhere give us an amazing performance like she did at last year's CMA's. I was talking to a friend about Taylor yesterday and how she was getting some flack for the camera catching her and the people around her thinking she won album of the year. I almost get a sense that she has become slightly narcissistic, and at the very least showing signs of a borderline narcissist. She doesn't come across as very humble anymore. Again, just my opinion as well. Yeah, I still like her music a lot and think she's a very talented songwriter. Might not be crazy about her pop direction in Red album, but I'll take her pop songs over 80% of the other stuff I hear on pop radio these days. But.... just like you guys, I can't stand watching her performances in this current album era. The dramatic acting (that HDC performance which you mentioned was particularly bad) is really cringeworthy. I remember checking out her "You Belong With Me" performance on Red tour - I just couldn't finish watching the video. Used to enjoy that song a lot. I wouldn't use the word "narcissistic", though I get where you're coming from. I know she's still very nice and appreciative of her fans and all... but I think the combination of her performance style and what we hear/see of her do give a different vibe about her. She doesn't have that simple, relatable image anymore, imo. Some people love this newer Taylor - the confident, dramatic, superstar Taylor - but I guess I am still one of those who enjoy the simple Taylor a lot more. "All Too Well" is still by far her best song. It's such a shame that Big Machine chose to concentrate almost entirely on Pop this era.

Taylor has always been VERY DRAMATIC. If you watch videos off her Fearless tour, she bangs her head, whips her hair, makes over-the-top expressions. I even remember her throwing what seemed like a sofa in one of her performances.

I even remember her throwing what seemed like a sofa in one of her performances. I feel that in previous eras, the dramatic part was less acting, mainly staging and stuff like throwing a sofa. Wasn't my kind of thing as well, but it feels more of simple fun for fans who enjoy it. Now she has moved on to much more dramatic acting and over-the-top gestures.

The talk about this started again because Big Machine's twitter retweeted @taylornation13 (Official Twitter for TS street team) tweet that there's a NEWS coming out soon about TS. I think the fans all jump into conclusions of a new TS single. Wonder what this is all about though.

^^ That'd be great! I saw the tour in both Charlotte and Greensboro. It's too good not to be put on DVD!

^Throwing a sofa? I did not know that Taylor Swift was that strong. Well, she certainly did throw a chair off the top tier of a stage and then slid down a stripper pole. She did this on one of the award shows and also on one of her tours when she first started out. Like jughead stated...she has always been dramatic. If interested, you probably could google it and see it. But it happened. www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_qTTrys3x8The above video was on her tour, but she slid down a pole at one of the award shows because I remember there being a lot of talk about it. Here's the chair throw and pole sliding at the CMA award show. blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2009/11/taylor-swifts-forever-and-always-kicks-off-the-cmas.html
