According to wikipedia:
Want U Back: Dance-pop, bubblegum pop, synthpop What Makes You Beautiful: Teen pop, pop rock, power pop IKAG: Pop rock,[1] electronic rock Hot n Cold: Pop rock, dance-pop, electropop California Gurls: Disco-pop funk-pop Teenage Dream: Power pop, electropop Firework: Disco-rock E.T.: Electronic Last Friday Night: Pop Part Of Me: Dance-pop, pop rock, power pop Call Me Maybe: Teen pop, dance-pop Raise Your Glass: Pop rock
I agree more or less, although Last Friday Night and California Gurls seem really dance-pop to me. I would also say What Makes You Beautiful would be bubblegum dance-pop or something.

I would consider anything electropop under the umbrella as well.

Its a good list, not perfect but if you think you could give a better year-by-year review of the electro-pop era then I'd love to see it! :) My main question was what has given the feeling that electro/dance pop has been going on for a long time?

I'm cautiously excited for this. If she changes up her sound from the last era (or even regresses to The Fame or The Fame Monster) then count me in. If this feels anything like Born This Way Part 2, bye.

I wonder if its going to be one of those moments when it doesn't leak and I'm plastered and listening to an online New York radio station at 3am the night of the premiere....getting emotional and crying. Then finally hearing it, and being completely letdown.
BTW did eventually grow on me, but at first I was like wtf.

If this feels anything like Born This Way Part 2, bye. She absolutely can't go back to TF/TFM sound. That's definitely dated now, it already was when BTW came out. She would do a lot better continuing some of BTW's sounds, like The Edge of Glory or You and I.

Looks like DJ White Shadow is producing this. Nothing official but:
PDF 7/23 @djws 21h CLLG is on temporary hold until I finish this single. I'm on it tho. XO - P
[CLLG - he said he's putting out an un-edited vocals of Cake Like Lady Gaga]
PDF 7/23 @djws 3h And no, not MY single. THE single.
So it's not like he's straight up confirming anything but it seems quite likely he's talking about this.

I think the first single should be one of the Zedd songs.

I wonder what this will even sound like. I legitimately have no idea. Like, some artists I can pretty much tell you what type of song they will release (Avril, Katy, Kesha) but with Gaga I am like ????? No expectations.

DJ White Shadow producing this would be an awful idea. I loved Born This Way but his productions weren't radio-friendly or fresh and not that great altogether and I doubt he's changed much.
Zedd would be a much better option, but I fear a song with him could turn out quite generic and I don't want that. I also don't like "Clarity" and don't want Gaga to have her own version of that. But yeah, if DJ White Shadow (or Fernando Garibay) is the alternative, Zedd ftw.

I'm basically expecting this to be another "Alive," "Clarity," or that other generic song by Nikki Williams that sucks

Really? They sound similar to me. Same boring female voice and production.

I liked her from Just Dance up until Telephone where she lost me completely, so she's been a non-event for me for awhile. I have a feeling the song she is going to release is going to be completely stripped down or something that is electro-pop but a bit more muted. I am thinking she'll put out something that sounds like Too Close or perhaps something piano driven but up-tempo like Can't Hold Us. It's definitely going to be dance but I think it will be a different kind of dance track.

I'm basically expecting this to be another "Alive," "Clarity," or that other generic song by Nikki Williams that sucks I agree tbh. I'm finding it so annoying at the moment how record labels are trying to market this type of music as if it's some edgy underground genre that's just rose to the mainstream, when really it's the type of pop music has been in the charts since the 80's. Thankfully the public (for the most part) haven't been falling for it. We all have ears, everybody knows it's the same type of music just with a different name. The Nikki Williams actually sounds like it could be a Kelly Clarkson or Taylor Swift song imo. Clarity and Alive are also pop songs, the same way that Heaven by DJ Sammy is. People need to stop pretending it's something they're not. In the UK a song called Jack by Breach is top 10 on iTunes. THAT is what you can call "EDM" and US radio will never touch a proper EDM song like that in a million years, and Gaga won't be having any songs like that on her album.

^^ EXACTLY Spread a Little Love by Havana Brown is HEAVEN <3 Almost as much as is We Run The Night... I feel like it would fit in perfectly with the current sound of EDM on Top 40. Whereas WRTN sounds very 2012 to me, do you agree? They need to drop SALL right now before she becomes a one-hit-wonder! Cuz her >>>>> every other faceless EDM act

I'm a fan of hers, but as a music observer, I'm interested to see just what direction she takes her sound. I feel like with "Born This Way," she was taking herself too seriously and trying WAY too hard to create a sonic masterpiece that she forgot to write good songs. I hope she takes a step back and gets back to good, strong songwriting. Because no amount of production can cover up for crappy songwriting. My thoughts exactly. She was trying too hard to make an artistic statement when in fact she no longer has to. There are about 5 great songs on the album, but the rest just doesn't work.

I have never bought into the "trying too hard" rhetoric with regards to her music. I thought BTW was an incredibly successful album from a music perspective. If the songs had smashed, people wouldn't be treating the try too hard angle as gospel.

I actually genuinely loved the BTW album. There are a few areas that could have been improved (like with almost any cd). Like, she needed another 1 or 2 easy radio friendly hits. Then, some of the lyrics made me cringe here and there. But other than that I pretty much loved or liked every song and I felt like it showed some interesting sides of her music.
The try too hard part for me came from the packaging of the music though. Some of the looks, interviews, and videos made me roll my eyes and I was pretty much stanning hard for her going into that era. I hope the music is as strong as the BTW cd, maybe with a little more attention toward having a few fun radio hits, and the promo is more fun and natural. Really, if I love as many songs as I did on the BTW cd I will be happy though. That matters more to me than liking her videos or looks for performances.

The problem with BTW in my opinion is that Gaga didn't know what she wanted to do, and as a result it ended up being less daring then she originally said she wanted it to be. Ultimately it's a pop-dance album that tried to be a rock album and the end result didn't work for many.

I dunno, I'm gonna disagree with ya'll.
She intended to make the "album of the decade" and IMO, she kinda....did.
That being said, this new "artwork" is terrible and I hope the music speaks for itself. Cuz I'm not a fan of her naked self. She isn't a sex-goddess. I don't know why she is portraying herself to be one. It's off-putting.
But i do believe that BTW and (Teenage Dream) are the best pop albums of this decade so far.
