YOUR TOP 15: Robin Thicke, Five Finger Death Punch and Tech N9ne all appear to still be on track for career-best first-week sales. Here's how it looks as the weekend looms:

Go Selena, less than 70% drop even if she only does 30k!

Kinda crazy how a fairly normal drop (60-70%) is still the largest drop she's had.

Yall realize "Love After War" opened up with 44k? The fact that his previous album bombed doesn't change the fact that his current record is set to flop though? His point is that when you're coming off a previous bomb it's that much harder to rebound from that. People are usually not looking out for you or nearly as interested even if you have a hit and more promotion than the previous era. And all of that is even assuming that calling BL a 'flop' is accurate - not everyone is going to agree with that. I for one am not usually one to write someone off as a flop after just one week of sales; we don't know how well the title track will continue to sell the album, or if he will have subsequent hits that do it for him. With all due respect this is just unrealistic. If Bruno couldn't crack 200k during LOOH's peak and with Doo-Wops & Hoolicgans and "It Will Rain" under his belt...and if Katy came just shy of 200k during CG and with the previous success of One of the Boys...and if it took Rihanna seven albums to finally break free of her 190-210k rut when she's been churning out smashes for years...I don't know why you would expect the guy who has literally never had a hit on CHR before to do over 100k better. (Even his previous biggest hit "Lost Without U" only peaked at 28 on the Pop 100.) Unless you think his entire career is in fact "tragic" (which hey, maybe you do, idk), or maybe you think album sales for pop artists in general are just a mess these days (I wouldn't argue with that). Singling out Blurred Lines without considering any context to the current sales climate or his past music history is where you miss the mark. One of the reasons some of us are impressed with his numbers is b/c pop fans have a habit of buying singles, and holding off on buying the album until the artist gets more hits and establishes a brand with pop fans (and even then there's no guarantee that one will ever be that 300k+ opening week type of artist). Robin doesn't yet have a pop brand...the number of times I have seen "who is Robin Thicke?" or "Alan Thicke has a son who sings? I've never heard his stuff on the radio before" on other sites is pretty high. It cracks me up when I see critics accuse him of riding Alan's coattails b/c Robin himself has never done that, r&b fans don't care about Jason Seaver and Robin only talks about it b/c mainstream interviewers bring it up. And I'd argue that this has not been the most promoted album of 2013. 20/20 alone negates that claim. And I'd say something else on that note but I'll just keep it cute and say your bias is showing. You have a bad habit of doing that with Demi too.

Quoted for when a certain someone releases a single, and Josh won't shut the fuck up ;) Good numbers for Robin. One big hit doesn't mean massive sales, yet we go through this everytime.....

Yall realize "Love After War" opened up with 44k? The fact that his previous album bombed doesn't change the fact that his current record is set to flop though? How is it tragic for Robin? I was expecting 150k. It's close. It's the most promoted album of 2013. The lead single -- which is also the title track -- sold 4 million and will officially become the biggest radio hit of all time during the album release week. I expected +300k. Shutting the f#ck up would really do you good right now. Lawd.

well this kind of turned into a disaster quickly.
i know i am not the only one who knows how to "keep it cute" with my disagreements (see above) so let's get back to that, or just not saying anything at all if you don't know how to not make things personal.

Its at least going to go Gold. Its not like Thicke was a huge seller in the first place. How is it tragic for Robin? I was expecting 150k. It's close. It's the most promoted album of 2013. Considering up until BL Robin was never known as a "cross over" artist anyway.

Expecting 300k+ for an artist who has never sold that or anything even remotely close in 10+ years is beyond ridiculous. Thats why people are reacting the way they are.

I know Duca is a JT stan. That's why I pointed out 'your bias is showing.' My post about everyone needing to calm down wasn't really about disagreeing with him (as i did too obviously) and a re-read of this last page should make that kind of obvious.

300k?? You've got to be kidding. Only artists who have had huge openings in the past have sold 300k+ in 2013.

I expected 200K at the MOST. 130-140K is great for Robin people need to stop reaching.

If we look hard enough there are other 'special cases' too. Oh, what are all the albums this year that opened with 300k+? I know of Justin and Jay-Z at the least. I just saw the previous poster mention 2013, which was why I didn't mention anyone else.

Daft Punk with 339K Kanye West with 327K J. Cole was close with 297K.
That's it besides the 2 previously stated.

A flop or disappointment is what CRJ sold after CMM, 140k or whatevs for a r&b act with no mainstream hits till now is fantastic. His arrow is pointing up not down.

Kanye was seen as a disappointment.. because it's here and it was once believed for some reason that it would go over 500k. J. Cole's opening was impressive.

I meant that the hard and fast 'rule' that in 2013 you must have prior success at that level to be able to do 300K (unless your name is Daft Punk) will correct itself (likely) before the year is out and we will have another exception to this 'rule'
In other words, I think that 'rule' lends itself more to coincidence rather than this is the way it works in the consumer music world today

Kanye's numbers were not a disappointment. No single. No video. No airplay. No promotion. He just dumped it on the marketplace.
