I agree. No matter how long a single has been on the chart, if you are promoting it, do so. The next single's success is NOT guaranteed.

Yes, but Slow Me Down is not the oldest song on the chart. That belongs to Craig Morgan's Wake Up Lovin' You at 44 weeks. Sara Evans has been on for 37 weeks. Look at Craig Campbell. He spent over a year to get a #15 peak for Outta My Head. He is on the chart with Keep Them Kisses Comin' at #11 after 22 weeks. Sure, I would love to see a housecleaning of sorts on the charts, but in the case of Evans, she has been a slow climber to start with. I think RCA should stay with this one for as long as possible. Maybe they can get a top ten hit for her. I am just burnt on this song. Every time I hear it it just screams "old". My radio station even pulled it and added it to its "recurrent list" since it's so old. On the other hand, I never hear "Wake Up Lovin' You" because they haven't added it yet. And they are still playing "The Heart of Dixie" as a "New" song. They have a weird way of adding and pulling music. I bet they will start playing Wake Up Lovin' You when Billboard deems it a recurrent song.

Wow its hard to believe SMD has been on the charts for 37 weeks now that's crazy! Could this be the longest running single of her career??

I personally still really love hearing this on the radio, so I am glad it isn't keeling over quite yet! As far as the second single speculation goes, aren't she and Miranda labelmates? To me it would make sense for RCA to really focus on Miranda's upcoming release week. It is only a couple weeks away, so it may be just about perfect timing for them to get Miranda's album out there, maybe get "Automatic" to the top, and THEN worry about either pushing "Slow Me Down" harder or getting started with a second single from Sara and Miranda around the same time.

Why should Miranda get more promotion then Sara? If you ask me Miranda has better chance going #1 with less promotion then if Sara went #1 with more promotion. I am a very dedicated Sara fan but at times find myself furious with RCA in the way they handle her. So many times before RCA passes Sara up for better opportunity. It seems to me know matter what Sara does its never good enough - very frustrating for me.

It seems to me know matter what Sara does its never good enough - very frustrating for me. Yeah, as an extremely dedicated Sara fan myself, I definitely agree with your frustration. However, for me this is not about the level of promotion that RCA does or does not give Sara right now. It is a fact that Miranda's name does grab more attention in the general public right now, whether RCA intends to give Sara the shaft or not. I would rather have them wait a couple more weeks to release Sara's new single than have them pull this song before it is completely done, only to throw out another single right in the midst of Miranda's big release week. Regardless of how much promotion Sara receives, the biggest news from RCA that the general community will care about these next few weeks is Miranda's new album. I just think they would be doing Sara a favor by continuing to push this one until the exciting buildup for Miranda's album is done. If they can keep "Slow Me Down" going a couple more weeks, and get it a little bit higher up the chart, then maybe after Miranda's album drops they will be able to focus more resources on giving Sara a bigger release week for her next single.

I see SMD is still holding on..barely but its still there. Unless I've been reading the charts wrong, I'm still crossing my fingers it'll take off.

Looks like the end for this one at last. I wish it would've made it higher, but I'll definitely be looking forward to a new single much the same.

Yeah, today was a brutal day for this on Mediabase. Unless there's a big turn around tomorrow, I imagine she'll go recurrent on Billboard. I thought this would go recurrent on Billboard last night as well, but BB gave her a grace week despite a loss of 560k and 93 spins. And today SMD has a small rally on Mediabase, up 36 spins and 161k in audience. She needs to re-bullet or BB will send her recurrent on Monday no matter what. However, even if she does manage to re-bullet, she wouldn't be able to get any higher than #17, her current peak so far. Eric Church and Craig Morgan will go recurrent, and I think Keith Urban will as well, so that would move Sara back up from #20 to #17, but no one else will go recurrent and she's not within passing range of anyone either.

I am too burned out by this song, as much as it's fantastic - it's run it's course, being out on the charts for 8 months??? Time for a new song....

Has anyone heard anything about the next single yet? I'm surprised nothing has been announced yet. I'm just hoping they don't do like they did with Anywhere and wait six months after the previous single peaked to release it.

Yeah, I'm really perplexed that they haven't made any announcements yet. I can't imagine what they're waiting for, and they should really get something out fairly soon, like perhaps early next month. *fingers crossed it's something up-tempo like Put My Heart Down or Sweet Spot*

For whatever reason they literally wait MONTHS AND MONTHS to release anything Sara. That is what sank her last two singles before Slow Me Down. They let 90 days go by before even announcing the next one. Really a shame because 'Put My Heart Down' is a hit.

Her album is selling next to nothing now, so I'd be worried about whatever gets released next. It's such a shame too, because a few of the songs on the album have real potential.

I'm so disappointed RCA has yet to make an announcement as to what the next single is. According to Facebook Sara just put up a cover contest for "Slow Me Down", asking for support on the song. I don't understand why?? This song has been off the charts for a few weeks now, doesn't make since why they are still trying to support it. But I've also heard a rumor in the fanclub, apparently a fan asked her in the M&G at CMA Fest what the next single is going to be and Sara said "Can't Stop Loving You" is being weighed out & she's hoping for either that or "Better Off", it was also talked about that they might do a Re-Release of the album "Slow Me Down" with songs from past albums being featured as bonus tracks such as "Alone" & "Rocking Horse". None of this is confirmed just merely rumors. But seriously something needs to happen soon. The album is fantastic & as a Sara fan its very frustrating to see time going by & hearing rumors like this doesn't make it any better. Sara or RCA needs to get on it!!!!!!

Re-releasing the album with previous album cuts would be a horrible idea for multiple reasons, and I don't see that happening. I do find it interesting that "Better Off" is being considered, because as big of a gamble it could be, I do see that song potentially being another "Suds in the Bucket" type hit for her if they play their cards right. "Can't Stop Loving You" would be a fair bit safer though and I could see that doing pretty well. I still think "Sweet Spot" or "Put My Heart Down" next would be the best, and then follow with either Better Off or Can't Stop imo.
But, yeah, they need to get something out there pretty soon. The wait is becoming ridiculous, and I still can't believe that nothing has been announced yet at all.

But when time passes like this ridiculous ideas seem to arise. I feel "Better Off" needs to be a single, but not yet. She needs to get a fast paced song out there again. Its been forever. I think if "Sweet Spot" or "Put My Heart Down" isn't released this era for her will be done. Most people I ever talk to all say the same thing - Sara releases to many slow songs. While I love any thing Sara releases, I would have to agree that the song choices always seem to boggle me. Do you ever wonder if RCA tries to sabotage Sara's career? I know it sounds crazy, but really. I just find myself shaking my heads so many times at the ideas or the way she is handled. Every album she's ever released usually have better song choices then the singles that are chosen, But then again up until now Sara's pretty much had a #1 on every album (with the exception of TC&TT). But with every album after that released - I've felt she could have multiple #1's but the one's that should be chosen, never are. I'm sure you being a die hard fan like me can kinda understand where I'm coming from!

I'm sure you being a die hard fan like me can kinda understand where I'm coming from! Well, everyone is always quick to blame the record label, but I generally think RCA does a pretty good job with Sara Evans. They totally botched the release of "Anywhere" as the final single from Stronger, but I remember being led to believe that MHCTYN as the follow-up to ALBS was of Sara's choosing. I know she's actually been given A LOT of leeway by her label throughout her career to do what she wants and at the pace she wants -- like when she tried to make her comeback in 2009 with "Feels Just Like a Love Song" and then a couple weeks after it hit radio, she pulled the plug and told her label that she wasn't ready yet and went back into the studio for another year. And then she spent more time on Slow Me Down than any of her previous albums according to her statements, so I do believe they have a good relationship together. She definitely needs an uptempo single though. She hasn't had a hit single with something up-tempo since "As If" back in 2007. Everything else has been more on the slower side of things, so she should really switch it up, especially since so many of the tracks on the new album are tailor-made for just that purpose!

I don't understand why they didn't have an uptempp single ready to ship out the week "Slow Me Down" peaked. It's not like SMD was racing up the charts and then suddenly stalled. It appeared to be peaking for a few weeks before it finaly dropped, so they had the chance to get something ready to release. I don't understand what the hold up is at all.
At this point, the album's off the Billboard 200, and down to #40 on the country album chart. Albums that low are typically selling somewhere around 1,000 copies a week, maybe even less. The longer they wait, the less likely a new single is to revive this project. I'm not trying to blame Sara, or RCA, but clearly this release isn't being handled very well by somebody.

I'm wondering if any of the songs are capable of passing up SMD's #17 position on the charts (which for Sara, was a awful peak position). If you ask me SMD had a disappointing run. Music video was awesome though.

PBS tweeted today that Sara would be performing on their Capitol 4th program, singing her "hit single Revival". Is this actual single information, or are they just promoting her appearance by hyping whatever song she's going to sing?

That'll definitely be one single choice I did not see coming, but I do love the song and it does have a similar vibe to the Radney Foster song she turned into a smash #1 hit back in 2005, so it should be interesting how it does if it is the next single. I'm not sure what to expect given the chart climate today, but if it was released a few years ago I could've seen it be huge. It's time to release something though, so hopefully they give some confirmation asap.

One that has not charted yet? It would be great for RCA to finally release something from the Slow Me Down CD. It has been way too long!

No matter what her next single is, her label still waited so long before putting out another. It's not like Slow Me Down is still getting heavy recurrent play. They've just been wasting any little momentum they had IMO.

They've just been wasting any little moment they had IMO. Let's not forget, this is not the first time they've done this. They waited what seemed like an eternity to release "Anywhere" after "My Heart Can't Tell You No" peaked in early 2012. I don't think they will wait 4 or 5 months like they did then but it's definitely frustrating that there's been no confirmation yet on single #2 from Slow Me Down.
