YOUR NEW RELEASES: Luke Bryan could have the largest debut for a Country solo artist not named Taylor Swift since 2007. He could also see the biggest bow by a male Country artist since Tim McGraw opened with 766k in August of 2004—that's pretty durned impressive for a feller who ain't got no hat. Here are this week's key debuts: Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville) 450-475k K. Michelle (Atlantic) 65-70k Parachute (Island/IDJ) 14-16k The debuting strains at UMPG's Nashville office, meanwhile, are Yo-da-ley-hee-hoo Kush, Mary Sue Mary Jane and Tennessee Ernie f**ked-Up. WOW at K. Michelle! I didn't even know her album was coming out this week, and I half-keep up with that ratchet Love & Hip-Hop mess.
And of course, very impressive numbers for Luke Bryan as well. I'm not nearly as surprised at a country act doing so well, though.

Dayum at that Luke Bruyan projection. He's built up quite a loyal fanbase.

I was expecting 300k for Luke so this is a nice surprise! That's one more million seller for 2013.

Surprise, surprise, another man in country completely obliterating the overhyped Blake Shelton's sales. Go Luke!

Surprise, surprise, another man in country completely obliterating the overhyped Blake Shelton's sales. Go Luke! You're right. Based On A True Story opened with 199,000 in sales. Luke Bryan is going to do more than double that figure. A.C.M. Entertainer>C.M.A. Entertainer.

I don't get what's so special about Luke Bryan, he sucks at guitar, he rarely writes his own songs, his voice is nothing special, what did I miss?

I don't get what's so special about Luke Bryan, he sucks at guitar, he rarely writes his own songs, his voice is nothing special, what did I miss? 1. Luke Bryan doesn't suck at anything! 2. He's nearly written all of his singles, with the exception of like 3. And he got his start in Nashville as a song writer. 3. Obviously his voice IS special if he's generating 450K in opening week sales. Sorry, but I'm a really big Luke fan! I'm so glad to see it doing so well in the opening week! It's a really good followup from his last huge album. I guess some pop fans just don't know how huge Luke Bryan is. Where I come from, Luke Bryan is probably one of, if not the most popular artist out of anyone.

he rarely writes his own songs Boy, oh, boy. Even if this were true, why does that matter? I hate when people trot this out as an excuse to discredit someone and the success they are having. I understand songwriting is an extremely difficult craft, and those that master songwriting and create their own songs certainly deserve credit and the success they may have. That said, those that instead prefer, or rely on, outside writers are not less talented nor are they less deserving. If every artist wrote their own material, where would that leave career songwriters?

If every artist wrote their own material, where would that leave career songwriters? Agree 100%. Singing and songwriting are two completely different skills. Would most say that Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, and Whitney Houston were bad recording artists because they did not write their own songs? If you can combine the two for yourself, it's cool. But if you don't, that's cool too.

I don't know what his singles are, I just looked at the writers listed for his new album. He's on a quarter of songs and always with other 2 writers, so I assume he's more like Carrie Underwood lane of songwriting sans Carrie's killer pipe. I'm not holding against him just because of this alone tho. And Elvis, Sinatra were trend setting back then with their style, but you can't say the same thing with Luke Bryan's record which is so middle-of-the-road-garden-variety-beer-truck-party of country music nowadays. And his 3-chord-guitar-strutting, yes, it sucks in my book, even that country kid(damn, his name escapes me rn) can pull more. But to be fair, majority of country/rock bands/acts nowadays suck at instruments, and I'm extremely pissed at that, LOL.

YOUR TOP 15: Luke Bryan is on track to have the third-biggest debut of 2013; he could land just behind Jay Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail, which opened at 528k. Can the hatless one (who appears on the cover of our print mag this week) gain enough steam over the weekend to have the year’s second-biggest bow? Stay tuned. You’ll note that Bryan’s prior release will also be among the week’s top sellers. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:
*Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville) 495-525k *K. Michelle (Atlantic) 65-70k Now 47 (UMe) 55-60k Robin Thicke (Star Trak/Interscope) 45-50k The Civil Wars (sensibility/Columbia) 40-45k Jay Z (Roc-a-Fella/Roc Nation) 35-40k Teen Beach ST (Disney) 30-35k Florida Georgia Line (Republic Nashville) 28-32k Imagine Dragons (KidinaKorner/Interscope) 23-26k Five Finger Death Punch (Prospect Park) 19-22k *Parachute (Island/IDJ) 16-18k Kidz Bop Kids (Razor & Tie) 15-17k Blake Shelton (Warner Bros. Nashville) 15-17k Luke Bryan Tailgates & Tanlines (Capitol Nashville) 15-17k Bruno Mars (Atlantic) 15-17k Justin Timberlake (RCA) 15-17k
*Debuts
Meanwhile, a UMPG intern was also deemed second-highest of the year today, though he didn’t come close to security guard T Shake’s 2013 record of seven joints, three brownies and a cake pop. (8/15p)
