NOTES:

• Somewhat boring week chartwise; only two debuts, and nothing moves more than four notches up or five spots down (unless you count "The Way" falling at least seven notches and right off the chart).
• Ryan interviewed Bonnie McKee in the first hour (a few songs after her hit), and she played a voice-and-piano medley of eight recent hits she's written or co-written for others.
• No "Breakouts" for the second straight week, or at least Ryan didn't actually use the term. The new Katy Perry song, heard on AT40 for the first time, certainly would qualify as such, although it hardly needs the extra promotion. Of the two "On the Verge" songs, "First Time" must be at #41 or thereabouts, as he sounded very certain about it being just about to chart.
• Prior to playing the Neighbourhood's extra, Ryan played a piece of a previous hit by a group with (virtually) the same name: a cover of Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi", which hit #29 in 1970. (He noted the British-style spelling of the word by the currently charting group, even though they're American.)
• "Better Off Alone" was an interesting choice for an extra; it peaked at #19 in 2000, so not an obvious choice today, but Ryan noted its resurgence in David Guetta's "Play Hard".

Interesting that "Closer" is the SFB song (Which are, almost, always credited as "Breakouts". Technically, that makes the 3rd bullet point false.), mainly, because it wasn't even one of the voting options -- the choices were Ariana Grande's "Baby I", Pink featuring Lily Allen's "True Love" (already charted), and Icona Pop's "All Night". I'd be curious to know how it managed to "win".

I wonder if SHM will hit the 40 week mark? "Play Hard", at the very least, will get dumped next week (nice to see the song it sampled, "Better Off Alone", being featured, as well).

For once, I wasn't looking forward to Pink's new single charting so early, so for the next few weeks it's probably gonna move a little slow. Meanwhile, Lily Allen makes her second appearance, also as a featured artist (T-Pain's "5 O'Clock" was the other). I do see that there's not a lot of surprising movement but there's only four nonmovers throughout the list so that's OK. :) I'm sad to see Ariana Grande go, because I really loved "The Way". No Two For One once again, but Justin Timberlake or Will.I.Am would've had it this week since they were played in the optional extras spot. I'm also surprised to see the last singles from Mariah and The Script make the optional spots, too.

Well, there was back-to-back Macklemore in the top 10. Maybe they could have brought back "Thrift Shop" and made it a three-fer.

Using "Sexyback" as an extra gave JT four songs (counting a featured appearance). It could easily have been placed after "Take Back the Night" or "Mirrors".

Once again, the Hot AC version of AT40 has more movement this week, with Kelly Clarkson dropping 18 spots to #32 with "People Like Us", and a 12 spot gainer by Pink and Lily Allen. The Hot AC version has had some huge droppers this year, including two 20+ spot droppers, one the biggest since 1993!

I must concur. They cut out Lily Allen's part in "True Love" and the last part in "Everything Has Changed" just to hear Bonnie McKee's medley. They also probably shortened "Can't Hold Us" so Katy Perry's new single can be heard. Bonnie sang these eight hits on the show.

It actually wouldn't be the first time Seacrest went a little out of his way (given this info) to play Tegan & Sara in the show - remember this gem?

See, I don't mind this as much cause it's still music-related.

The show under Seacrest used to have quite a bit of a lean towards Hollywood, and I'm not quite sure to what degree it still does. If truth be told, I'll take things like this over playing extras of songs that just dropped off the survey (like "Carry On" last week).

It was a pretty slow week. They had to cut some songs short due to the interviews. I remember from past years that they used to do that when they would have interviews every hour. I hope Katy debuts next week on the chart.

But I thought the medley was quite good, and Bonnie will probably be around for a long time musically.
No jackpot, but we did get 37 38 (39). We got back-to-back Love songs in the third and fourth hours.
No matter what they are called they still played 3 songs that weren't played last week. Get Lucky wasn't
lucky enough to make number 1, and Rihanna and Ke$ha are both running out of steam. I like Crazy Kids.
Katy said that her new album is coming out Oct.22 and will be more "her" than fantastical.
I agree that the trend seems to be going back to less music and more interviews again lately, and it
isn't a good thing.
