I would LOVE to hear her cover this again. I wish she would bring it back because the way she does it is just so beautiful, and I can't even imagine how amazing it would be now with the way her voice has evolved.

Ugh you guys are the worst, now I've fallen down the depressing-Kelly-ballad rabbit hole, thanks a lot. :'( Don't Ever Give Up on Me, The War Is Over, Save You, and I Can't Lose (hi franklin!) are all perfect.

I really like "I Can't Lose," but I hope they rework the production. It's very Bleeding Love/Already Gone/Halo-Tedder, and I think it's a song they could open up to something more earthy, organic, maybe even urban laced that would work better in 2013 2014 (thinking some of the stuff on Lorde's album). Then I'd be all for it.
Songs like Close Your Eyes, All I Know, Don't Ever Give Up On Me, Empty As I Am are so stripped (and beautiful) that they have a more flexible sound, and are basically ready to go (though I'd be excited about some more amped-up instrumentation on DEGUOM).

Her AOL concert performance of Why was about half as good as most of the other tour performances of it from that year. Hmph.

I agree, I hope they wouldn't do too much to it though, I do really like the arrangement. And I agree about those other songs that you named, I feel like adding anything to them would take away from what makes them great. Except for strings, strings always work. I was just listening to the demo of Standing In Front Of You and I think I like it a lot more than the album version. It's more unique and electronic....the band arrangement kinda watered it down. That song could have had some cool Ellie Goulding esque production to it.

You can thank the label for the arrangement on the album.

I hope to listen to these songs as officially recorded tracks someday.
- After The Love - Empty Handed - Bleed For Me - I Wish I Could Be Lonely Instead - Call Me - Tell Me A Lie (Self cover) - I Can't Lose (to You Can't Win) - Close Your Eyes - Ave Maria - So Far Gone (So Far Home??) - Did You
There are a ton of great songs she made so I still expect to hear some tracks on the above list from next records.

^ I honestly didn't understand the majority of this, I'm sorry. Oops it went a bit messy with my description... I just meant that sometimes I wished she was as energetic as she used to be during the Breakaway era... but on the other hand - Her vocals are so perfect now that it doesn't matter at the end of the day I hope to listen to these songs as officially recorded tracks someday. - Empty Handed - Bleed For Me - I Wish I Could Be Lonely Instead - Call Me - Tell Me A Lie (Self cover) - Ave Maria
- Naked Eye - Don't Ever Give Up On Me

YAAAAS. Those lyrics are cute (and lame) as f**k. Basic, easy, ready to implant into people's ears for decades to come. And you know that last bit is a big ol' belt. Can't even wait.
Also, is this her first single (song?) that starts with the chorus?

Thing is yeah the lyrics are cute, but the hook doesn't make sense. I get that "underneath the tree" is supposed to be a metaphor, but it also plays like it's supposed to be a double entendre...but why would you want your significant other physically underneath the tree? It only makes sense one way. If she's said, "I only want you coming down my chimney" or whatever, then that would make sense using the same kind of imagery, but people being under trees isn't a thing. [/minor grumble]

Kelly's trying to set a new trend! The future #1 pick-up line will be: "Wanna get underneath the tree? ;)"

[/minor grumble] Co-Team Overthinking Captain here, but isn't "underneath the tree" just a euphemism for getting something (good) for Christmas (or, more accurately, lbr, "All I want for Christmas is you")? What's under a Christmas/holiday/winter tree is yours, and you can depend on something under said tree year after year (if you're a good Christian girl), so she's utilizing familiar childhood excitement while undercutting it with the sad, adult truth that physical possessions don't mean shit if you don't have someone special to turn to and say "Look what I got!" Further, as she's grown up, her cherished "gifts" have grown as well, no longer fitting so squarely under the tree, but rather real, breathing, people, security, and love; still, the sentiment is the same, because love is never more palpable than it is on Christmas morning. Or something.

It seems pretty obvious to me. She doesn't literally want someone under the tree. She is saying that person is like a gift, the only thing she wants, the perfect present, etc etc.

Or something. That was actually rather poetic. Lol. Your point about All I Want For Christmas reemphasizes my point though. In that context, Mariah doesn't care about the physical things that Christmas brings, and she harkens back to the old famous expression "All I want for Christmas" and then turns it on its head by saying "is you". She literally and figuratively wants the one she loves for Christmas. When that same idea tries to turn that into wanting them 'under the tree' it only really makes sense as an expression, and not in the physical sense. Whether or not that's what they were trying to do can't really be proved either way, but I get the feeling lyrically it's supposed to play like "All I Want For Christmas" and it doesn't quite work that way. I'm sure the song is going to be iconic though. Oh and thanks to everyone else for trying to explain to me that it's a metaphor, but I think I already covered my comprehension of that.
