So, I opted to catch the show on the AT40 station this week. I've been catching it on Sunday affiliates the past couple of weeks, but I figured I'd get it out of the way early this week. Don't want any other distractions for the VMAs this Sunday (which you'll hear quite a bit about in the show). ;) Well, the oldest song in the survey from last week falls off this week, giving us a new resident 'oldie' this week: "Stay". When's the last time that the oldest song on AT40 was so...young? Biggest Mover and Dropper are colored as is my usual habit over in the 70s/80s thread, which means red for Mover, blue for Dropper. AMERICAN TOP 40 - AUGUST 24, 2013 TW LW WKS Artist - Title Peak-To-Date40 -- (01) The Neighbourhood - Sweater Weather (40) 39 -- (01) The Jonas Brothers - First Time (39) 38 39 (03) Bonnie McKee - American Girl (38) 37 40 (02) Enrique Iglesias - Turn the Night Up (37) 36 37 (02) Pink featuring Lily Allen - True Love (36) 35 25 (24) Fall Out Boy - My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light 'Em Up) (8)34 34 (04) AWOLNATION - Sail (34) 33 33 (04) Pitbull featuring Danny Mercer - Outta Nowhere (33) Breakout: Drake featuring Majid Jordan - Hold On, We're Going Home32 29 (26) Rihanna featuring Mikky Ekko - Stay (1) 31 32 (04) Taylor Swift featuring Ed Sheeran - Everything Has Changed (31) Optional Extra: Flo Rida - Club Can't Handle Me30 31 (06) Emblem3 - Chloe (You're the One I Want) (27) 29 30 (04) Paramore - Still Into You (29) 28 23 (23) Pink featuring Nate Ruess - Just Give Me a Reason (1) 27 28 (06) Labrinth featuring Emeli Sande - Beneath Your Beautiful (27) 26 26 (06) Phillip Phillips - Gone, Gone, Gone (26) 25 35 (03) One Direction - Best Song Ever (25)24 21 (12) Ke$ha featuring Will.I.Am - Crazy Kids (20) Breakout: Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc - Wake Me Up23 24 (05) Jay-Z featuring Justin Timberlake - Holy Grail (23) 22 27 (04) Lana Del Rey - Summertime Sadness (22) 21 22 (10) Nikki Williams - Glowing (21) Optional Extra: Lady Gaga - Bad Romance20 20 (25) Icona Pop featuring Charli XCX - I Love It (2) 19 19 (06) Austin Mahone - What About Love (19) 18 17 (17) Florida-Georgia Line featuring Nelly - Cruise (6) 17 15 (17) Selena Gomez - Come and Get It (3) 16 18 (04) Justin Timberlake - Take Back the Night (16) 15 14 (19) Justin Timberlake - Mirrors (1) 14 16 (06) Rihanna featuring David Guetta - Right Now (14) 13 10 (20) Macklemore and Ryan Lewis featuring Ray Dalton - Can't Hold Us (1) 12 13 (07) Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop (12) 11 12 (09) Capital Cities - Safe and Sound (11) Subway Fresh Buzz Song: Katy Perry - Roar Optional Extra: Mike Posner - Cooler Than Me10 11 (12) Anna Kendrick - Cups (Pitch Perfect's When I'm Gone) (10) 09 09 (08) Macklemore and Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert - Same Love (9) 08 08 (16) Calvin Harris featuring Ellie Goulding - I Need Your Love (8) On the Verge: Tegan and Sara - Closer07 07 (15) Jason DeRulo - The Other Side (5) 06 05 (12) Bruno Mars - Treasure (5) Extra: Lady Gaga - Applause05 06 (10) Maroon 5 - Love Somebody (5) 04 03 (14) Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams - Get Lucky (2) 03 04 (16) Zedd featuring Foxes - Clarity (3) Optional Extra: Britney Spears - Womanizer02 02 (15) Imagine Dragons - Radioactive (2) 01 01 (11) Robin Thicke featuring T.I. and Pharrell - Blurred Lines ** 6 weeks @ #1 **DROPPERS:Swedish House Mafia featuring John Martin - Don't You Worry Child (from #38, 39 weeks on, hit #1) David Guetta featuring Ne-Yo and Akon - Play Hard (from #36, 4 weeks on, peaked at #32) NOTES:- Yeah, I switched the "TW" and "LW" columns. Sorry; I'm just much more used to that order.
- mkarns, forget what I said last week regarding the Jonas Brothers.
- "Turn the Night Up" was the last song played on the AT40 station before the countdown started. Gotta love that...
- Hmmm...while "Stay" is now the oldest song in the countdown, it doesn't seem to be putting the brakes on. Given that and the fact that "Right Now" is now in free-fall on Mediabase, her consecutive weeks run could be in danger of ending soon if we don't see a new single from her.
- Ryan said that Emblem3 were up another notch this week...after they were down four last week.
- Now that's something you don't see every week: The week's Biggest Mover and Dropper in a direct chart position swap.
- Kind of funny to see Austin Mahone still holding at his peak position here after the way he just free-falled off Mediabase - I wouldn't be surprised if AT40 was his only Pop airplay at this point.
- Ryan mentioned Florida-Georgia Line recently setting a new record for most weeks on top of Billboard's Country chart...though one could definitely argue that that's a mighty dubious distinction, given the exact state of the Hot Country Songs chart these days.
- Ryan also mentioned that "Cups" is the shortest song to make the Top 10 since "Ain't No Sunshine" in 1971, which clocks in at 2:04 - "Cups" is 2:07. I wondered about Del Amitri's "Roll to Me" (from 1995), which is also pretty short - turns out that clocks in at a full five seconds more than "Cups" does.

Darn...you beat me to posting by four minutes. I'll add these notes: - Another week with two debuts and not a lot of big movers, with the curious exception of #25 and 35 swapping positions (the only songs that move more than five notches up or down.) Of the two debuts, Ryan was right when he sounded so certain last week that the Jonas Brothers would soon hit AT40, for the first time since 2009. And last week he also pointed out that the Neighbourhood share the name of a group that hit the top 40 in 1970; the title of their debuting hit matches the subtitle of a 1994 song by Weezer (not a pop top 40 hit, but an enduring alternative/modern rock favorite.)
- We say "adjö" to Swedish House Mafia after 39 weeks, the last remaining AT40 song to have debuted in 2012. As some anticipated, now "Stay" is the dean of the chart, with "only" 26 weeks to its credit.
- No Two for One again this week, but two Breakouts that were referred to as such, plus a third if the "Subway Fresh Buzz" song counts.
- Two extras from Lady Gaga, one old and one new, plus an interview with her.

Ugh Ryan just ruined Swedish House Mafia's chance to outtake Bruno Mars on the Year End Chart.

So, I opted to catch the show on the AT40 station this week. So the AT40 station (the iHeartRadio one, I presume) starts airing the "new" show on Thursdays? What time? Oddly enough, I've never, actually, heart AT40 on the AT40 station. I guess I never tune in at the right time.

I switched the first two columns. It's easier for me the usual way.

So Fall Out Boy and One Direction switch positions while everyone else only moves down by 5 or less. So "Stay" becomes the longest running song on AT40 and it might exit soon, so next in line is "I Love It" (25 weeks), "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)" (24 weeks), "Just Give Me A Reason" (23 weeks) and "Can't Hold Us" (20 weeks) so this chart is looking fresh. The one thing that annoys me is that "Right Now" is at No. 14 when it has peaked at No. 16 on the Mediabase chart. This is like one of Rihanna's flunk hits, because it's only reached #50 on the Billboard chart. There might not be a music video for it as well.
Oh, and nice using colors to represent the biggest jump and drop. But I would recommend using red for drop and blue for jump.

Typo alert. Jason Derulo's song is called "The Other Side", not "Closer". A common mistake. I fixed it anyway.

Oh, and nice using colors to represent the biggest jump and drop. But I would recommend using red for drop and blue for jump. I do it the other way because I like to think of red representing a "hot", up-and-coming hit, and blue representing a "cooled off" one...y'know? ;) Typo alert. Jason Derulo's song is called "The Other Side", not "Closer". A common mistake. I fixed it anyway. Ahhh! Whoops. How'd I mix that up? Fixed it above. 8 PM Thursdays, on the iHeart Radio AT40 station. Does anyone know what, if any, times the countdown is repeated over the following week? Hmmm. I wonder if this list from a thread on the AT40 Proboard is still accurate? at40fg.proboards.com/post/44372All times Eastern, and disregard the Saturday comment - it also airs Saturdays at Noon. Like Cerebro, I at first tuned in only to not get the show, but when I saw the thread I waited for it last night and - sure enough! :)

I think Roll to me it's like 2:12 or something like that. Just a little longer than Cups (but far better song)

There was a purge around October/November 2004 when all or most of the recurrents were removed, so I'm guessing it's been 9 years since the oldest song was 26 weeks old. To find another song shorter than "Cups" (and below the Top 10), you'd have to go back to 1994. "Bizarre Love Triangle" by Frente! was under 2 minutes long. Several times over the years, Casey has answered questions about the shortest song. I can't remember what it is, but it's from the 50s or 60s and it's just barely over a minute long.

I think Roll to me it's like 2:12 or something like that. Just a little longer than Cups (but far better song) Depending on which source you use, "Big Me" is a second longer or a second shorter than "Roll To Me." So either song could have been the shortest Top 10 of the '90s.

Making this time around more noteworthy since it took no special doings on the part of the show to do. Several times over the years, Casey has answered questions about the shortest song. Either 11/21/87 or 12/26/87 comes to mind...one of those he answered for the longest song, the other for the shortest. I'd have to check again to know for sure which is which (but not now - listening to this weekend's 8/21/82 now!).

On 12/26/87 Casey answered a question about the longest AT40 hit ever, which was "American Pie". I recall Casey (I think) saying on AT40 once that the shortest song to make the top 40 was "Some Kind-a Earthquake", an instrumental by Duane Eddy from 1959. I don't remember exactly when that countdown was aired.

Thanks for posting the optional extras. My local station didn't air any of them. Katy Perry and Lady Gaga should debut on AT40 next week. Still a pretty fresh chart.

Breakout: Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc - Wake Me Up I noticed that Ryan didn't mention Aloe Blacc in the intro or outro so I looked it up and it appears that he doesn't get label credit on the single: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_Me_Up_(Avicii_song)

On 12/26/87 Casey answered a question about the longest AT40 hit ever, which was "American Pie". That came up again on a recent Hot AC edition of AT40. When "Mirrors" hit #1, Ryan said that the album version was the longest running #1 song since "American Pie."

Breakout: Avicii featuring Aloe Blacc - Wake Me Up I noticed that Ryan didn't mention Aloe Blacc in the intro or outro so I looked it up and it appears that he doesn't get label credit on the single: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_Me_Up_(Avicii_song)I figured not. I erred on the side of caution there - I've noticed that sometimes featured (but not necessarily credited) artists get listed on the countdown list from week to week, and sometimes they don't.

Unusual to have a commercial break after #13 (usually it's earlier). Lady Gaga told Ryan that there is no competition with Katy Perry, and also that despite the rumors LG didn't grow up rich. We got 2 Can't songs and 2 Love songs in a row in the third hour, and another Can't song as an op.extra. The Best Song Ever got me thinking about what I think my favorite is. With more hindsight than I would like, I won't bore you with very old song titles, but I heard my favorite song of recent years today: Bad Romance. Ryan promoted his upcoming 2 week game show, Million Second Quiz.
