• "Roar" makes the second highest debut of the year, behind "I Knew You Were Trouble", which entered at #13. However, that was the first week of January and so may have been skewed by the "frozen" holiday charts, which isn't a factor with "Roar". Also, IKYWT loses its status as 2013's longest running #1 this week.
• "Crazy Kids" is said to be the biggest dropper in the countdown, but "What About Love" actually falls further--right off from a peak of #19. AT40 played it for six weeks as an extra for that?
• "Right Now" slips from #14, Rihanna's first top 10 miss in over a year (excluding "Pour It Up", which never made AT40). Seeing its rapid fall on Mediabase, with nothing new moving up yet, could her record-breaking streak of 4 years with at least one song always on the countdown soon be in danger of ending?
• A bit of Eminem's new "Berzerk" was played (between 17 and 16)
• Jason Derulo was said to be "rising another spot" after stalling last week--which still puts him short of the position he reached three weeks ago.
• The Two For One returns, with Derulo; "Ridin' Solo", in which he praises the single life, was a somewhat ironic choice to be played just after an interview with him and his new significant other, Jordin Sparks.

That's always been the case regardless of which countdown show or who's hosting it. The biggest mover/dropper refers to songs that are within the Top 40.

The debut for "Roar" is fine. But for it to debut and "Applause" not to - there's just no logic to that. (Nor is there to playing "Troublemaker" as a random non-optional extra, but that's another story. )

I'm also shocked that Fall Out Boy plunged 10 notches last week only to fall two this week.

She's actually got a month to go to reach four full years; "Run This Town" debuted on 9/26/09. It's looking like this will go down to the wire.

I guess they felt top 30 wasn't a good enough debut for a Lady Gaga lead single? Wouldn't be the first time they held out one of her singles for an extremely high debut. Since it was #17 on the 8/25 Mediabase chart, maybe another top 15 debut is in the offing next week.

If they did, or ever play it again, then it would join the list of songs played more on AT40 as an extra than as a chart entry, and one of very few to have charted for more than a week or two. To be fair, it probably would have debuted a week earlier if the chart hadn't fallen so far behind for a couple of weeks. Interestingly, there is an "AT40 Sleaze" segment this week on Austin even without a song played.

Meanwhile, this is the third straight week Tegan and Sara are heard as an extra; there's a segment in which one of them expresses gratitude to Ryan at being included as an extra for two weeks. AT40 did them one better...

Actually it's not that random at all. Almost all of the extras that get played without an intro or outro are recent droppers that haven't gone recurrent yet. And I'm sure they're not put in there just but the sound mixer has nothing better to do. It's to make the show time out to 4 hours. I'd much rather hear these extras than a long interview with someone who has nothing to do with music.

Katy moved from 26 to 21 to 16 in a three day span, right around the time AT40 was planning this weekend's show. At the same time, Lady Gaga was moving from 53 to 42 to 36. So, depending on which chart they used when they compiled this weekend's show, it's very possible she was still below #40. My hunch is that they could of had her song debut in the high 30's but chose instead to wait one more week so she can "roar" in with a high debut too.

Next week, I expect Katy will hold at #14 and Gaga will bow in at #20.

Don't some AT40 shows go over 4 hours and sometimes below 4 hours?

I know on the station I listen to they've been putting more commercials lately and the show goes about 4 hrs, and 15 minutes.
This week we only heard songs that have been played before on AT40. They could have been more creative by at least having
one more breakout. It's unusual to have such a recent dropper, The Way, as an optional extra. Painful to me to see Ke$ha drop
so precipitously.
As to Rihanna, she's been on 206 consecutive weeks already. Two more will give her 208 weeks, essentially 4 years. Technically, if
she can make the Sept.14/15 chart she won't drop out till at least the chart weekend of Sept. 21/22. Anyway, nobody's had even 200
consecutive weeks besides her. Even if she doesn't make the full 4 years, it's been a phenomenal run!
Ryan talked to One Direction about their new movie. Reminds me of The Beatles and Hard Days Night. Other similarities:

What's even more bizarre is that "Roar" did not even debut on the AT40 Hot AC chart this week! Correct me if I'm wrong, but "Roar" broke into the Mediabase Hot AC Top 20 about the same it did on the Mediabase CHR chart, which means it should have had a high debut this week on the Hot AC chart as well. So now we have one AT40 chart that appears several days behind the other one, which is also fishy.

Deshanw, as we are the "official" Rick Dees chart keepers, this kind of discrepancy between the two AT40 charts makes the Rick Dees "dartboard" charts look as accurate as the old Hot 100 charts used for AT40 in the early days!

I'm not really flabbergasted to see "What About Love" exit the chart from a position that high. It's the first song to exit from inside the Top 20 since Chris Brown's "She Ain't You" fell from #20 in September 2011. There's a possible chance that "Right Now" is gonna do the same on the next chart, so let's hope that "Stay" sits for a few more weeks so she'll make four exact years. Surprised to see one of my favorite songs ("The Way") played as an optional extra when it departed just a few weeks ago.

It just left the Top 40 (officially) last night, so my guess would be that next week it plummets, but stays in the 40, with the week after being its drop-off.

Worst-case scenario, though, is that both it and "Stay" will go off the same week. :(
