She's two for two with me so far and this was universally praised from the listening party so...ugh. Bring it on, Katy.

Snore still puts me to sleep and Dark Horse is still a jam, so she's 1 out of 2 for me. I am interested to hear this though since she said it's her favorite on the album. From what we've heard I hope this is her "Stay." She needs a real ballad hit, The One That Got Away is probably the closest she has to that.

Taking the cue from Miley ("Wrecking Ball") and releasing a ballad to stand out in the Fall while everyone else is releasing up tempo songs. Will be interesting if she finally gets a hit with a slower song considering how "Thinking of You" performed.

I hope it is an actual powerful ballad and not another generic midtempo with sappy lyrics. I know she can kill it if she tries.

I sure hope it's good. She wants this to be "Stay"? I'm sure she wants to to be bigger. #1-bigger.

Noooooooo! "Walking On Air" should have been released instead. After a midtempo, there should be an uptempo. Save the ballad for the 3rd single. If the ballad, no matter how good it is somehow stalls the momentum that was built up with "Roar" due to soft sales or less airplay than expected, it could cause the Prism era to end prematurely. and this was universally praised from the listening party so...ugh. Bring it on, Katy. Keep in mind that Mariah Carey's "Bye Bye" and "I Want To Know What Love Is" were the ones many of the industry people said were the standouts from their respective albums at the listening parties and we all know how both of those underperformed when they were eventually released.

I think Katy's team knows what they're doing. It worked for Rihanna and Bruno Mars.

I was hoping for an uptempo record. I've already moved on from Roar. I'm kinda cranky they aren't releasing something more uptempo. You don't release two ballad like songs back to back. That's the quickest way to get people to stop listening altogether.

Worked for Rihanna on "Diamonds" and "Stay" - "Right Now" stalled because the song sucks, not because it followed 2 ballads. And Katy's momentum is crazy so I doubt she'll be in trouble. So I assume it'll be "Roar" and "Unconditional" on SNL.
Any word on when we're getting it?

A little premature to poo-poo until it's been heard (and not just be insiders). She has NOTHING to lose by releasing a ballad. Between Roar, the preview singles, PRISM will do just fine. Katy wants to show depth. If it's more like TOY and less like TOTGA, I'm in. I still think TOY is one of her best videos. Oh, how I wish she'd pulled a Radar on us with The Complete Confection. LOL

I'm bummed she's releasing a power ballad and NOT "Walking On Air" but she does have the best team in the business and I'm looking fwd to it. Also interesting article especially the John Mayer quotes at the very end.

a strong ballad will spur album sales going into the holiday season moreso than an uptempo would. Smart move Katy. Walking on Air, whatever it sounds like, could still be a single later on. E.T. was a promo single, remember...

Roar is alright and Dark Horse is forgettable. I'd imagine this will be the "Teenage Dream" of this album, so I probably don't like it either.
I'm still not worried though, it took until singles #4 and #5 from last album for me to like any of them, and I LOVED both "E.T." and "TGIF"

Yes! This was deemed as one of the most, if not the most, single-friendly choice by the reviewers and critics at the listening parties so I'm obviously looking forward to listening to this!

It will be good for her to score with something out of her usual sound. She is so hot now that people will give an oportunity to whatever she releases

I loved "Dark Horse" and somewhat liked "Roar". If this is a ballad,I hope it is good. Katy's pop songs seem to all be gold.

I'm glad the article mentions the use of percussion and prominent bass, as well as a similarity to the title track from her last album. I'm not here for a dull and boring piano ballad a la Stay.
Pushing this second is a smart choice. In case this underperforms, they can still continue the project afterwards. This seemed to be the best received track as a single from the listening party though so it appears that her team is continuing to make correct decisions.

Goes to pop and rhythmic radio next Wednesday. Digital release with the album on 10/22. Great plan. I expect it to debut in the Top 5 since it will have two weeks of airplay and sales should be pretty high for it. She's also performing this on the EMA's!

Yay, waiting for the slow winter smash. "Dark Horse" for 3rd or 4th single, the E.T. of Prism.

Awesome, so excited about this one. Honestly I'm having trouble connecting with her material this era but her ballads are always great
