That figure is great for anyone in this sales climate, and it's also a great figure compared to CBT (102K).... but for all of the hype surrounding Miley, her singles blowing up and her being literally everywhere... kind of a disappointing figure imo. I'm sure they were expecting more. Miley is probably having meltdowns right now

Was hoping for more for Cassadee, but that is not a bad number by any means. Should make her number one on the country charts. Little shocked Hits isn't even projecting 13k for Joe Nichols though. I see him at about 20K personally.

She's forsure not having a meltdown. Her "Can't Be Tamed" era was posed to be her "breakout" album, and that came and went. It's like shes being reintroduced to the public. Good job, Cyrus.
Nice for Panic! and Pusha.

That's what I expected for Miley. Hopefully it ends up going platinum in the end.

I'm sure they were expecting more. Miley is probably having meltdowns right now Most of the predictions I saw for it before now were actually lower including ones that supposedly come from the label. She has more than doubled the opening of her last cd and it is hard to call that anything but a success especially since pop stars usually have fairly low cd openings (Like, Katy and Rihanna despite massive unbelievable hits and hype haven't broken 300K yet though Katy likely will with Prism).

That's a very solid start for Miley. I'm not sure what the people who were saying she'd do 400k+ were basing their assumptions on.

Expected, I guess. I was hoping she'd either do a massive first week (400k) or totally bomb (86k), just to spice things up a bit.

Goes to show though that for pop stars, even if you're everywhere, doesn't always translate to great sales.

How are these not great sales? Especially given that her last album came out over 3 years ago and flopped, and that she's trying to appeal to a new audience.

Really disappointing numbers.
She should have done ~500k with all the buzz, two huge hits, and after the big promo campaign.

500K? Did you fall of the empire state building? How many bitches have major hits and buzz and don't sell 500K? For the love of god the biggest hit makers in pop music Katy,Rihanna don't move units like that. Unless Miley is Pop royalty like Madonna or Micheal Jackson were when they were living I don't see how you can frown at these numbers.

Has Madonna ever sold 500k/week? Highest debut is 420,000 for Music and 370,000 for Ray Of Light. If I'm not mistaken.

That one did around 350k its first week. Her highest sales weeks most likely came before soundscan.

Miley Cyrus' Openings: 1)"Meet Miley Cyrus(Hannah Montanna 2)"-326k 2)"Breakout"-371k 3)"Can't Be Tamed"-106k 4)"Bangerz"-250-270k(supposedly)

Yeah, I think these numbers are good considering it's more than any Rihanna/Ke$ha/Katy (not for long) album. If the buzz continues, and there's no reason to think it won't, it should be a consistent seller. I wouldn't be *shocked* if this outdoes ARTPOP and/or Prism (though we have good reason to think Prism will do stellar numbers).

That is a great starting point for Miley! She could still go upwards like J. Cole, Justin Timberlake (1/2), Robin Thicke, etc. Her final numbers are going to be a wild card situation.

My theory is that with pop artists, the younger the artist's core fan base, the lower the album's first week sales tend to be. With the exception of One Direction (and maybe a couple of others?), most other similarly pop artists haven't really sold huge sums their first week. Bieber's, Miley's, Rihanna's and Katy's initial sales thus far have been dampened by the fact that their target audience is generationally narrow (16-29). And high publicity tends to only crystallize older people's aversions towards these artists. Taylor Swift, Adele, Justin Timberlake, and Lady Gaga tend to attract consumers across different generations, old and young, and the older buying public tends to have a greater inclination to buy whole albums, as opposed to streaming albums, illegally downloading them, or selectively purchasing individual tracks common among younger people. Feel free to completely disagree with this theory though lol
