If some stations wouldn't play Beer With Jesus would they play the 'ass' song?!
"I understand the desire to bring in new listeners but changing the type of music you play in order to do so? It doesn't make sense for most of the conglomerate/corporate stations to even call themselves "country" stations anymore."
I agree. I'm a proponent of perhaps a separate 'country fusion' station or similar..... Although even though I am 5 years new to country, I really enjoy when some older songs come on-I shazaam them and realize I'm listening to Martina or Garth or not so old traditional like Rodney Atkins. It is so refreshing in amongst all the same sounding rock wanna be songs (not that I don't like a lot of those too). I like variety and am probably not the only one.

In the 90s it was traditional hat acts coming one right after another to the point where you couldn't tell who was who on the radio. Even in the late 70s and early 80s every new male seemed to be an outlaw in some way. Most of those acts in both cases came and went in a short period of time. I hope that is how this frat-rock-country trend goes out too. I call it Nashville's "Stepford wives syndrome." This latest virus in Nashville is the worst identity crises the genre has ever had, that's for sure! This song just shows Chase is another one of the latest who is spreading the bug.

This trend isn't going to change until people STOP BUYING THE MUSIC. Chase Rice is among the top 5 in pre-purchased LPs this week on itunes (all genres) so fat chance of that happening. I actually enjoy this song and others like it in certain circumstances (while training for my half-marathon) or as an every once in awhile listen. But to have a large portion of the music played sounding similar to this is beyond insane. But people bought the 90's hat acts albums too and that still faded so i believe this will die too, but when? Some higher power somewhere needs to either say enough is enough or make this it's own genre( giving us country fans actual country music again). It's already all starting to sound the same to me it seems they're only changing certain words around. But to classify this song as "country" because some guy from Texas is singing it is just laughable. I say if the "frat boy"trend wants to sound so much like rap then why not take over rap/hip hop stations? Maybe something will change soon but as far as i can see country music is on "life support" and nashville is ready to pull the plug.

Maybe something will change soon but as far as i can see country music is on "life support" and nashville is ready to pull the plug. I think at some point this will end, but it might take longer than Evreybody on this board wants. These " Frat boy" songs are still making the record labels, songwriters, and publishing companies money right now. Wether they be album sales, downloads, or merchandise. Remember it's a what have you done for me lately kind of buisness. Unfortunately this music (I refuse to call it country music) is making the money. It's also bringing the younger demographic in. I know it's cliche but that's where they see the future lies in. If young people like it, then you could have a growing number of fans. Which means more sales of course. It's good news money and popularity wise...But a nail in the coffin for traditional or even just normal country music. I also agree that not only are these songs unbelievably bad, but the same damn subject. Just different words, and synonyms. I actually have written some songs before, and Im no wizard with lyrics or song subjects.. But even I wouldn't think of writing these ridiculous tunes. How many take a girl in your truck to a field, drinking, and having sex till the sun comes up songs do we possibly need for Gods sake. Being only 24 years old, I have friends who say I actually like country when I say "You probably don't like country right". And when I say who and what... Take a wild guess who they bring up ( FGL, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Or "Truck Yeah", "Kick It In The Sticks", "Thats My Kind Of Night", and "Two Step"). What might need to happen is one or a couple of new True Country Acts need to be signed. But they gotta be polarizing in their own way. They need to be decisive, bold, funny, great live, and take no crap kinda artist. Someone like Eric Church but even more traditional. So younger people say Wow..This country music can be cool and I think I like this. I'm certainly not predicting this but that's what it could take to swing the tide back in the way of the good guys. All I can say is I hope so cause me saying this time and time again is starting to take its toll on me along with a lot of other people here.

Looks like according to tonight's Country Aircheck, Chase has signed with RPM. No doubt now that this will be played. It fits the stuff that radio is playing, and we know RPM has a solid staff. If they were able to get an unestablished female artist two top 30 single in this market right now (Maggie Rose) then you can pretty much Guarnatee this going at least top 15.

Yeah, it definitely looks like this is going to be his "debut" single in terms of radio, as he has been picked up by RPM Entertainment. I kinda thought another label would pick him up (based off the sales alone) and I was worried it'd be Republic Nashville or one of the Broken Bow imprints, but it's still a hard thing to swallow, as RPM has had some success. Still, I don't know that this will be a big hit. I honestly think this one will research terribly. This is like nails on a chalkboard for me, and it is the worst 'country' song I've ever heard. Hopefully Zac Brown doesn't hear this (but I'm sure he will). Specaking of Zac Brown...since many stations were so quick to edit out the word "ass" from ZBB's "Toes", well then they sure as hell better have a problem with the use of that word in this song. The lyrics in "Toes" were funny but the lyrics in this song come across as very derogatory to me. Women are more than just "fine little things" and "hot little messes" that like to dance provocatively on the tailgate all night long... I realize it's been a few years since "Toes" and that radio has changed since then, but I hope they haven't changed so much that the use of "ass" in any song, particularly the way it's used in this song, is now ok. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and mine is that this song is a complete mess. The weird production gimmicks ( Ten Pound Hammer nailed it with the "Microsoft Sam" comment), the loudness, the atrocious lyrics, and the fact that this 'bro-country' isn't actually country at all...all of these things make this song a complete turn-off and it will certainly be an instant station-changer for me. I decided to listen to this all the way through tonight, along with Dallas Smith's "Tippin' Point", and it was tough to decide which was worse, but I hope that both songs are the tipping point for country radio listeners.. I am just hoping and praying that the listener feedback for this song comes back as terrible as I think it will, as that would hopefully show the folks at radio that just because it sells, doesn't mean it should be on country radio.

^ I think you found the correct phrase for this song....Complete Mess! This song becoming even a moderate hit is one of my biggest nightmares. The open and end to the song is flat out uncreative and stupid. It's degrading to the opposite sex, and the lyrics are horrible. I hate these songs that say the same thing through the whole song. Either telling the girl how hot they are, and how their gonna shut the town down.
The lines "Ive never seen a side ride seat looking so hot", and "Get your little fine ass on the step, shimmy up inside" to me is making the girl looking like an object rather than a person and thats not cool to me, and has no place in country music. There's plenty of other ways that are not offensive to say how much you like or love a girl. To be fair the lyrics aren't as bad as FGL's "It'z Just What We Do", but still a complete dumpster fire to me. I think out of this song and "Tippin Point" that the latter will find more success than this song just purely from the label Dallas is on. Either way I despise this song with all my heart and soul, and anybody who knows me knows how mad "Drink To That All Night" got me, but this song I hate even more and hope it fails miserably cause it deserves no success whatsoever.

This song is obviously all over XM59 The Highway since they discovered him, but I couldn't help but notice the similarities between both of his songs. Maybe it's how the "roll" lyric is sung but seems weird to have your first two singles be "That's How She Rolls" and "Ready, Set, Roll".

When you look at the add leaders this week, their all good, or flat out great ("Drink A Beer", "Compass", "Whiskey In My Water", "That Girl", "Sober", "19 You + Me", "I Got A Car"). But somehow "Ready Set Roll" got 15 adds. To be completely honest, I thought even though he was picked up by RPM, that this might get 5 or 6 adds this week, and perhaps sneak into the 50's at best. But I didn't expect that many adds. Now this could still go nowhere and get next to nothing next week, but how on Gods green earth can a song this poor get 15 PD's to add this to their playlist.
I thought we were trying to turn a corner in 2014. This song being among the most added is not a step forward, but rather a step back.

Honestly, stations playing this tune should be ashamed of themselves.
There are plenty of bad singles out there, but I've never heard a song this disrespectful played on country radio.

Yeah I follow him on Twitter because he's like a train wreck and I can't look away. But at least once a week he makes me want to punch him in the face. Cocky, arrogant, and rude. I can only hope touring with a class-act like Dierks this summer knocks some sense into him but I am totally doubtful. And frankly still annoyed with Dierks for putting him on the tour.

He must think he is the new Blake Shelton and it will get him buzz, followers or admiration by tweeting like that. Not sure about others but I often found Blake funny (except for his dead animal jokes) and witty, whereas that above tweet smacks of an immature 14 year old saying "Nah, nah, nah" with middle finger proudly extended. Comes off like a real idiot-at least that exchange posted above.

Surprised there's no thread for this yet... Chase Rice co-wrote Florida Georgia Line's 'Cruise' and came in 2nd place on Survivor: Nicaragua. His song 'Ready Set Roll' is blowing up on iTunes (currently #29 at the time of this post) and is starting to get some airplay. The Ready Set Roll EP is being released this Tuesday, October 15, 2013. Source: blog.gactv.com/blog/2013/09/13/chase-rice-will-release-ready-set-roll-october-8/wait....... were is the dislike button?......... oh there isn't one.......--I really think this song is disrespectful crap, to girls to country fans and like actually everyone.. I wish radio could see what its playing and how it could mean the end of real country music one day. I miss hearin good music on my radio station cause if im gonna be truthful i haven't even heard one good song when i turn on the radio anymore at all....

And with these three tweets, any defense I can muster for Chase or this song goes right out the window. This kind of behavior is completely uncalled for, and does not endear me to him in the slightest. This is, far and away, the most disgusting and egotistical group of tweets I've ever seen -- by either a celebrity or non. I sincerely hope he never sees success in any way, shape, or form again. Oh, and what shows is he selling out? I highly doubt people are paying to see him and figure "Ah, might as well see Dierks Bentley, too, since he's performing after Chase Rice." Egoism in Country music has never been more evident than it is today.

I think he's frustrated that he is the one-and-only bro-country artist that radio refuses to play. The song is flopping badly on the charts. I can see why he's getting salty.

I think he's frustrated that he is the one-and-only bro-country artist that radio refuses to play. The song is flopping badly on the charts. I can see why he's getting salty. I doubt this is it. Chase chose to go with a small independent label (RPM) for promotion, and rumor has it that he wants to keep his music independent. If that's the case, it's going to be a lot more work promoting stuff to radio. Technically Big Machine and Broken Bow are independent labels but they are big enough that they don't operate like them anymore. So unless Chase were to sign with a bigger label and go all-out in marketing himself to radio, then limited airplay is the best he'll receive, no matter how many singles/EP's he sells or how many shows he sells out. Personally, I don't know if it would be a bad thing if another half dozen or so new artists came on to the scene and went the ultra bro-country route. I think that would make radio realize "hey, we need to find some other stuff to play other than this bro-country stuff".

This clown played the establishment I go to for my drinks. Funny thing is when the night ended. Tried getting with one of the bartenders who refused him. Guy got so mad. Thinks he is all that and a bag of chips. Not only is he talentless but he disrespects the genre and women.

But tonyei31's comment has me concerned...

He may have a 'star' 'tude at times because of a little success, but he's been nothing but friendly when I've been around him. Then again, I knew him Pre-"Cruise" too (and knew him socially outside of what I actually do).

I believe it was when Cruise was #1 days prior and had finished that ascend. You never know with these people but I wouldn't be surprised if this got the better of him. He could be a great person or a turd but let's just hope his stuff stays far, far away from radio.

Interesting skill to have. ;) Other than that one tweet, what have you seen that makes him "gross?" Not saying you're wrong, but just don't think it's fair to say such a unkind statement without giving any reasons.
