I almost think it's done. I don't want to believe it, but stations just aren't jumping on this one. Contrary to a bunch of other songs, I think this song would have done pretty well with some sort of hourly deal because I've seen first hand when co-workers hear the song the first time they ask who it is and where they can get it. Maybe MCA is just hanging back waiting for the tour to really get going, but this has shown nothing to me to think it's going anywhere :(

^I hope it isn't so, dajross6. This has been bouncing around from a 4.7 and 4.9 but just can't seem to quite get over that top 40 hump. If this doesn't pick up over the next two weeks I'll have to agree. Looking forward to hearing this tomorrow, though! It's a number that should sound great live.

Enjoy the show! I was going to head over to the Erwin Center but decided instead to splurge on the Dallas show. All the concerts I've been to there (Austin) have been real personable compared to the Alamodome or bigger venues. Should be a good time :)

^It was a great time carriekins! I'm just doing a quick check in after the show...the seats were great and George sounded better than ever! I'm quite exhausted so will make this short for now. For those interested I posted the set list here. Standouts from the show included everything from Easy Come, Easy Go to the classic Nobody In His Right Mind Would've Left Her. He put a lot of energy into That's What Breaking Hearts Do (George no doubt really likes this song), as well as a very passionate I Believe and I'll Always Remember You. As far as I Got A Car, it wasn't quite as energetic as his performance of TWBHD. I'll post more once I get some rest!

I've said it from the get-go...
"That's What Breaking Hearts Do" is a better song and a stronger single than "I Got a Car"

It's fantastic that he threw in "I Can Still Make Cheyenne" and "Drinkin' Man".

Heard this twice within a time frame of about 10 minutes (two different stations ofc.) while still in Kansas City for winter break. Man, the radio stations there are just great. Total opposite from what I have to look forward to now that I'm back in St. Louis where radio sucks.

This one moves 43-41* on Billboard, and it also holds at #41 on Mediabase. It's still just barely hanging in there, but no one else behind him is doing much either. I think the Charlie Worsham and Craig Campbell songs have the best chance at going top 20+, but Austin Webb is unlikely to climb much further, Gary Allan is pretty much in the same boat with George, "The Outsiders" is obviously done, Chase Rice is thankfully not doing much at all, Kacey is unfortunately still in a near standstill, Toby Keith is spinning his tires and is off to the slowest start of his career, Will Hoge isn't likely to climb much higher, Brothers Osborne is done, American Young is on Curb, Kellie Pickler is unfortunately struggling, Rodney Atkins is surprisingly struggling badly, and the LoCash Cowboys obviously aren't gonna climb very fast.
I'm sure the lack of movement outside the top 40 is mostly affected by the chart hangover after Christmas and New Year's, so things will probably start to pick up a bit more soon, but nevertheless, a lot of these songs really don't seem likely to do much. IGAC did pick up 5 more adds today, but we're getting too close to "too little, too late" mode. This song has burned through 12 weeks already, and it's still under 3 million total audience and not in the top 40. Eventual big hits--even the slow climbers--don't start out like this. I'm gonna keep hoping for the best, but I don't know anymore what the "best" is at this point.

#41 for the week. I will personally push George Strait into the top 40 myself (do not have plans in how to do it).

JHomes has it right, two posts up. Songs that become hits do not start their chart runs like this. However, there are enough songs going recurrent on the 2/1 chart that George could easily make it into the top 40 on Billboard. That might be noticed by a few stations -- I'm grasping at straws here. I realize that.
The realistic possibility is that George cracks the MB top 40 this coming weekend and earns Bob Kingsley countdown spins the following weekend, which in turn gets him to a new (but still not all that impressive) level of audience. If that happens, maybe a few of the follow-the-leader stations will add this song and spin it a little. Don't see anything else that's going to make a difference.
Let's hope this song gets near 4 million impressions on next week's BB.

It would be cool if George would make a video for this one. He's had very few music videos in his long career and his last was for "Troubadour" in 2008.

While I agree with your overall assessment, I was thinking that the flood of high-profile new singles this month was proving to be especially disruptive to songs trying to move into the top-40. The new singles from Eric, Blake, Keith, Rascal Flatts, and now Tim are essentially automatic entrants into top-40 rotation on the whole panel, and that has forced the lower profile singles to wait them out until rotation spots open up on playlists across the board. Or maybe that is what you meant by the "chart hangover." If I'm not mistaken, Tim's single this week should be the last high-profile debut before Miranda's in February, so with any luck, the next few weeks will be kinder to George.

This song is classic George. Its the type of song he does best at and used to be radio gold for him. If he can't have a hit with this song, then it's over for George on radio and to me Country music will be officially dead.

I'm a big fan of the I Got a Car. Hope to see Sittin' On the Fence and Credits released. Even though that would put him at 5 singles from this album. I just feel SOTF is a great song, one that wouldn't be a #1, but would be pretty good.

I would imagine we'll see one more single, being either Broken Hearts or Credits.

If they go four deep off this album, then I believe that'll put him at 100 singles. They may do that just for the numbers.
I still wonder if Brook & Dunn ending at 50 singles was intentional or not. "Indian Summer" and "Honky Tonk Stomp" seemed to fizzle out pretty fast, so I get the feeling Arista wasn't pushing those too hard, and just wanted them to hit 50 come hell or high water.

I think this week was his best shot to crack Mediabase's Top 40, but that doesn't look likely now. He's sitting at #42, and I think that only the Eli Young Band are going recurrent tonight. FGL still have another week, as does Darius Rucker I think.

I really wish this would pick up some momentum, I really like this song and wish it would do well. I finally hear the song being played here and how nice it is to hear George on the radio with this new single.

No recurrents this week!!!!

I do expect Darius Rucker and Eli Young Band to go recurrent on Billboard though if that makes you feel any better which may help Mr. Strait out a little. He may be able to squeeze in a top 40 appearance on that chart for Airplay come tomorrow. We will know tomorrow about 9PM when the update comes out!!!

Looks to me like this is the first drop week for Florida, Rucker (yes, he had a spins bullet last Sunday), Josh Thompson, Sara Evans, and Little Big Town. (Rascal Flatts too, but that's only because of their hourly-spin first week.)
It's the second drop week for Eli Young Band. And it's the third drop week for nobody, as rbundy1987 points out.
George is taking forever to make it onto the countdown shows. I think he'll be at 37 or 38 on the Billboard chart, which will qualify him for exactly zero countdown spins.

I think "Drunk Last Night" will go recurrent on Billboard as well, and "Radio" has fallen impressively fast...so fast that it might manage to drop off as well, but I can see that one hanging on for a final week at #10. There is a chance, though, that Lady Antebellum could pass up Darius and replace him in the top 10. Cassadee Pope has slowed to a crawl but she will finish in the top 10, replacing the EYB.
This will be Sara Evans' 21st week on the Billboard chart and she didn't have a bullet last week, so Billboard could technically pull her if they wanted to, but I'd be surprised if they did. She may even re-bullet, and if she doesn't, her losses aren't that steep, so they'd probably give her a grace week.
But yes, even if George is top 40 on Billboard, that doesn't help IGAC from an awareness perspective. This song needs to finish in the top 40 on Mediabase to get those CT40 and ACC countdown spins.
