When is having two top ten hits a flop era? Am I missing something? Lady Gaga can't be the number one artist forever. I really don't like her music, but she is trying risky songs and pushing her sound a little further. I just don't get the problem here.

Has it been confirmed WHY the video has not come out? Has Gaga said anything that the rant from a week or so ago? Even then she gave no answer (from memory) and just whined that she wasn't given enough time to make a great video. I still concluded from that that we would still get one. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? She tears up about having to cancel the BTW Ball, I can only imagine she's be livid she couldn't release a video. And what happened to Venus and that having a video? We had a director and all. please calm down

Has it been confirmed WHY the video has not come out? My assumption (reading between the lines) is that the video not only sucked, but was also wrong somehow. The wrong angle, offensive not in the correct way, etc. So, not just a subpar video, but also a subpar video that would have further fed into the backlash against her. If that is true, they essentially would have to throw out the entire video and start over. When they figured that out, the song was probably already starting to peak and they would have had to work on a new concept, hire a new director, shoot it, edit it, and then release it. They probably figured it wasn't worth it. It sucks, but it is what it is. Like I said, Gypsy better have a damned good campaign. Even if it flops, I think fans need to regain trust that Gaga knows how to promote a single properly still.

This song did exceptionally well for what it was. A slow-paced, R&B-leaning track with R. Kelly obviously won't ring out instant Itunes sales, but given how sugar rush paced the current pop climate is. I think it could have done much worse.

I too agree that the vid must have simply been too offensive, and Gaga can't afford that kind of negative publicity right now. They made the right choice not releasing it if that was the reason. Yes I would have liked if they had reshot it so we could have a video, but I guess I can see why it may have been too late and not worth it from a money standpoint.

I hope this song dies quickly and painlessly like unconditonerly did or a lobster after you stick a knife in its head. Make room for gypsy!

It seems like she's already working hard on new material, so maybe this is it for the current album. I'd prefer that honestly, as long as there's a new single in the next few months. What is this, The 20/20 Experience? No. For this to be The 20/20 Experience, her part 1 would have to have lots of potential singles left untouched. I think this is a more a case of realizing she still needs singles to carry a project so she's going to create some of those.

Especially G.U.Y, MANiCURE and maybe Jewels N' Drugs (that would be PERFECT for Rhythmic). I was talking about how she's planning to release new music ALREADY when we've only gone through two (maybe three) singles.

DWUW is straight-up pop, and I wouldn't exactly call it "slow-pace."
I think some are giving lack of video too much credit as the "downfall" for the song's performance (which isn't terrible by any means). Look at "Dark Horse"- no performances on a big U.S. TV program- and it's about to jump to No. 1 on the Hot 100.
DWUW just hasn't clicked with the general public like some thought it would.

^ But that's why it needed a video, 'cause it would still give the song enough exposure and streaming that it may have achieved a top 10 peak. Katy's got a LOT more goodwill with the commercial public right now, given how badly radio/sales were pushing for 'Dark Horse' to be released that they've completely glossed over the relative underperformance of 'Unconditionally' and shot it straight to the top.

Based on how the lead singles performed, that's probably true.
DWUW peaked at No. 13, so it could have been worse. If the video was bad or offensive in the wrong way, as some said, that may not have helped the cause. So was not releasing it the best move? We'll never know.
P.S.: I also neglected DH's lack of video, too. KP's going to perform it at the Grammys, though- not that the single needs the extra push at this point.

I think a lot of emphasis is put on the video but the lack of video is just the primary example of how the era/single has been handled, which I personally attribute to the song's performance being below its potential. Yeah, singles do well without videos all the time and Gaga herself has done well prior to a video's release but this time, it's the lack of video that has been the one glaring example of how things have messed up behind the scenes. I think the sheer sloppiness is translating over, whether people themselves are aware of it or not. Even if the video had come out last week, I don't think it would have made too much of a difference in the end because it was still mishandled.

It's frustrating there isn't already an adds date for Gypsy, forget the fact that she's rumored to pushing Dope as the 3rd single.

I really don't like her music, but she is trying risky songs and pushing her sound a little further. I just don't get the problem here. It's not a flop era, its just an under performance for Lady Gaga. It's like a straight A student bringing home a couple of C's. Definitely fine and not the end of the world, but when you know the potential for A's is there, it's frustrating. I do genuinely think this song was a #1 and the BEST single she has released in years. For me, it under-performed (for various reasons, but under performed nonetheless). Success is relative to the artist. This is Lady Gaga's least successful era thus far, so people are calling it a miss. Would the same album #'s/single chart performances be a miss for someone else? No. If this was Rihanna's era though, the same fingers would be pointed.

"Gypsy" IS the only option. "Gypsy" then new music from the Pt. 2 or whatever they are planning.

If Gaga released this at any other point in her career (especially The Fame Monster or the beginning of the Born This Way era), it would've been huge. I'm glad radio played it, but the low sales are surprising. Are the low sales because she didn't perform the song much? Even the most critical Gaga fans loved this song, so it's puzzling.

It is what it is. She performed it enough. I truly believe the video would have helped sales. But the song has peaked, so it's time to move on. Considering the circumstances, this song did well.

Why don't they just use the live performances as the video? It worked for "Set Fire To The Rain" and that made #1. In other news, the "Gypsy" thread has been locked...

She's too busy telling her monster to pray for Bieber than to actually release the video.
Great song and great choice for a single, but sucks that it performed the way it did.
