(I guess we can do threads in the genre forums for chart updates and leave the holiday forum for annual reminiscing?)
Under Cool New Music at pop. Currently leading the holiday parade at AC radio at #20 with the biggest bullet in the top 50.

This song is just fantastic. She so perfectly uses the sound of old Christmas songs to play up the best parts of her voice. Love it.

I already know this will smash at AC but I hope Pop shows it some real love Christmas week, at least!

It also works as a great sequel to Britney's Xmas classic "My Only Wish This Year"... He's all I want just for me, underneath my Christmas tree
You're all that I need, underneath the tree

Watch for this to BLOW UP in the next week...IF it follows the Xmas Classic by Mariah Carey in 94. Which by ALL indications of how GREAT a Christmas SMASH this IS...TOP 40 radio NEEDS to get on this by next tuesday.
I'll really be upset if they don't hop on.

I feel like The Voice will be the thing that sends this up to the higher reaches of iTunes and gets people jazzed about playing it all over Top 40...or, it won't happen.

Best Christmas song since "All I Want For Christmas Is You." eh....Oh Santa is also a good one, imo. Both are pretty equal.

All I Want For Christmas Is You is obviously the gold standard as it has proven itself a true contemporary classic. I don't think it can get any better than that--in terms of quality, success, and legacy. That said, I think this is the first original Christmas song since then to hit the highs of that song. Doesn't top it, I don't even think it equals it yet--too new--but Underneath The Tree could find itself in that category in several years' time.
But for now, I'll just stick to thinking about 2013 and hoping it explodes the way it should.
ETA: I think Oh, Santa is a seriously lackluster attempt to retain previous song glory (as was that entire album, for me).

has this charted on the Hot 100? If not, does it have enough points because of AC?

"All I Want For Christmas Is You" was a Top 10 Billboard Top 40 (Billboard's CHR/Pop equivalent) hit in its first year out. I don't know if this will really reach those heights.
