Walmart purchased 500,000. I don't see anything out there that there won't be another purchase after that? BTW - 500K purchase means this is already 4x platinum Two of the eight discs are DVDs though, so would that still count as 4x platinum or just 3x? 2 of the cds are his already released "Ultimate Hits" album It's 5xp. Those cds will probably be added to the 5xp certification. Garth Brooks knows how to play the RIAA "game" very well.

It'll be interesting to see how the certification of this set is handled.

Is Gaga going to set a record for falling more than 80% of her sales from the previous week.........................twice?

Damita Jo was a big disappointment, though, as it sold less than a third of what its predecessor sold. None of the singles cracked the top 40 on Hot 100 Airplay, so it was part of that whole "diva curse" era. However, unlike some of the others, her albums that followed each sold subsequently worse.

Maybe I'm delusional but I can't see Gaga dropping below 25k after selling 115k. I think she was left off the predictions by accident. We will see.
Loving those numbers for Kelly!

So NBC's The Sound of Music: Live drew a HUGE rating last night and now the soundtrack will blow up. Maybe it could be a #1 contender this week? We'll see...

Yeah it's not even top 10 on iTunes. Somewhat surprising.

"Damita Jo" can't be considered a flop as it sold over a million copies plus "I Want You" was a decent radio hit (didn't it hit #1 on Urban AC?). And "20 Y.O" had "Call On Me" (one of her biggest urban hits). "Feedback" is probably close to Platinum digitally. "I Want You" peaked in the lower end of the Top 10 at Urban AC if I recall correctly. "Call On Me" also isn't really one of her biggest Urban hits. Peaked at #5 I think. She's had plenty of songs peak higher there. It got to #1 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop chart because there was a CD single (when CD singles were weighted more heavily than downloads and almost no one was releasing them anymore).

I believe physical sales and digital sales were weighted the same in 2006, both divided by 5 (before going back to 10 in summer 2007). Sales would have been even lower for the R&B chart, as they just came from core R&B stores.
I didn't tune into The Sound of Music.

Yeah it's not even top 10 on iTunes. Somewhat surprising. It's funny 5MM people tune in to XF and send a cover of the (previous) #2 track to #1. 18MM+ watch TSOM and hardly any sales. Further reiterates what was happening on social media - major snarking at how bad it was. (I didn't waste my time.)

Popular show doesn't always equal popular music sales. Look at Catching Fire movie sales versus how the soundtrack is just not catching on. Compare that to the Great Gatsby which probably had less attendance but that soundtrack just sold like crazy.

TSOM could be spurring more physical sales.

TSOM could be spurring more physical sales. On Amazon Music (physical which includes CDs & CD/DVDs), Blown Away is 52 down 1 from this morning and TSOM is 75 also down 1. So perhaps it will be a big box item that gets picked up at Wal-Mart or Target this weekend. Hard to say. On iTunes, it was 14, but the movie soundtrack was 25, so perhaps some of the sales are going to the timeless original.

Is there much of a market for cast recordings? Like, if you enjoyed the show, wouldn't you just wait to pick up the DVD in two weeks? The music is so tied to the performance, I just can't see many people feeling compelled to purchase the album.

If you would have told me a month ago that Katy would be outselling GaGa, Britney would be debuting with 120k, and that Duck Dynasty would be outselling Kelly's x-mas album, I would have thought you were crazy.. Strange.
That's not to say Kelly's numbers aren't impressive, because they are. The album is really good too, so I see it having longevity like Buble's xmas CD, whereas Duck Dynasty will probably be forgotten come next year.

Exactly. Duck Dynasty is THE album the season. Given its success, I have no doubt there will be a volume 2
(There is precedent for TV shows to release multiple volumes of Christmas albums - Ref: Glee)

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/5819880/britney-spears-jake-owen-sound-of-music-set-for-top-20-on-billboard-200Britney Spears, Jake Owen, 'Sound of Music' Set for Top 20 on Billboard 200 By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | December 06, 2013 Britney Spears' new album, "Britney Jean," is the biggest new release of the week and it's heading for a high debut on Billboard 200 chart. Industry sources forecast the album to sell between 115,000 and 120,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Dec. 8. The new Billboard 200's top 10 will be revealed on Dec. 11. Spears' last studio release, "Femme Fatale," in 2011, debuted at No. 1 with 276,000 in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Next week's No. 1 album will most likely be Garth Brooks' Walmart-exclusive box set "Blame It All On the Music" with perhaps 150,000. Spears could end up in the runner-up slot or perhaps at No. 3. It depends on how the Robertsons' "Duck the Halls" album performs through the weekend. It might sell between 110,000 and 120,000. Country singer Jake Owen will probably be the next highest debut, as his new set "Days of Gold" could bow with 40,000. His last full-length album, "Barefoot Blue Jean Night," in 2011, debuted and peaked at No. 6 with 55,000 sold in its first week. "Days of Gold" might start somewhere in the Nos. 10-15 range on next week's tally. After Owen, look for the TV soundtrack to NBC's live staging of "The Sound of Music" to debut in the top 20. The album, led by Carrie Underwood, might sell between 35,000 and 40,000. Its sales are powered by the high-rated broadcast that aired on Dec. 5. The three-hour show garnered 18.5 million viewers, according to Nielsen, and was the most-watched Thursday night for NBC (excluding sports programming) since 2004. On SoundScan's Building chart (below), Spears is No. 1 and Brooks is No. 2. The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking, reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week as reported by six major merchants. While Spears is in the lead at the present on the Building chart, Brooks will probably finish at No. 1 on the official Billboard 200 chart next week. As for the rest of the top 10: Kelly Clarkson's "Wrapped In Red" is No. 3, followed by One Direction's "Midnight Memories" at No. 4. The Robertsons are at No. 5, Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" is No. 6 and Owen is No. 7. Mary J. Blige's "A Mary Christmas" is No. 8, with the soundtrack to "Frozen" at No. 9 and the "Now 48" album closing out the top 10. Nielsen SoundScan Building Chart Rank LW BB 200 Artist Title 1 NEW Britney Spears "Britney Jean" 2 3 Garth Brooks "Blame It On All My Roots" 3 6 Kelly Clarkson "Wrapped In Red" 4 1 One Direction "Midnight Memories" 5 4 The Robertsons "Duck the Halls: A Robertson Family Christmas" 6 2 Eminem "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" 7 NEW Jake Owen "Days of Gold" 8 15 Mary J. Blige "A Mary Christmas" 9 18 Soundtrack "Frozen" 10 10 Various Artists "Now 48" The Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.

If lower end of predictions hold, here's where some of the notable totals will be:
Eminem: 1,398,000 Katy Perry: 700,000 One Direction: 647,000 Miley Cyrus: 600,000 The Robertsons: 499,000 Lorde: 487,000 Lady Gaga: 445,000 Kelly Clarkson: 435,000 Now 48: 294,000 (more than record-low Now 44) Garth Brooks: 208,000 Britney Spears: 110,000

Wow @ Gaga. Will she even go Platinum? No. Born This Way barely ended up selling twice it's debut week, for ARTPOP that would be 550k. I think at best it'll get 700-750k by the end of next year since this didn't have Amazon sales its first week so it should fare somewhat better in terms of longevity.
