Disappointing. This would have probably sold less than Lotus if she hadn't released the album in December.

Very good numbers. :) The fact that she's still managing to sell 100k+ after spending 5 years actively trying to end her career so she can be a normal mother is amazing. Disappointing. This would have probably sold less than Lotus if she hadn't released the album in December. Ok but Lotus was also released in Q4 so...

Underwhelming number but not surprising when one considers the underperformance of the lead single, the little to inexistent promo, and not the best reviews.
The album has potential hits so it can definitely have legs. Even though I'm not a big fan of the album, I am rooting for her and the record.

That's actually pretty amazing given the circumstances if you really think about it.

The week after Black Friday is historically known for large drops in sales because of the busy week before, so there's no reason why we should be disappointed. (Note - I'm a huge B fan so I may be reaching a bit)
It must also be noted that she didn't perform at all prior to the release and there isn't any promo scheduled except for the Ellen appearance and the BTS on E! in two & a half weeks.

Fine numbers considering she hasn't and won't give a single performance.

I don't know how to estimate December sales but...
125k 65k 80k 105k =375k by the end of 2013. Not AWFUL...if it can sell gold, it's not too big a deal.
I believe BOMT sold 125k opening week in January 1999, correct?

Will she be #1? Kelly Clarkson had big promo this week with The Voice last night and tonight with the tree lighting special in NYC. Plus Eminem, One Direction 2nd week, etc.

For One Direction to sell 125k, they'd have to fall 78%. Possible since their opening week was also Black Friday but unlikely. Eminem, Robertsons and Kelly are all in the game as well.

Awful numbers, but totally expected given the circumstances. I wish it wasn't so, but what can you do.
I don't think there's any way she could beat out 1D for #1. She'll struggle for #2.

This is a respectable number for an album with literally no promo or hits. She's selling off her name alone. Miley, Katy, and Gaga's first weeks were much more disappointing.

How were Miley's and Katy's sales more disappointing? Miley outsold her entire last album's sales in less than two weeks.

Kind of expected tb h. The fact that Britney can pull more than 100k based on her name alone is really good though.
I believe BOMT sold 125k opening week in January 1999, correct? ...Baby One More Time sold 121k in its first week.

These numbers tell us nothing more than that she has about 150k hardcore fans who buy the record right away. The next two or three weeks will show where the album goes.

How were Miley's and Katy's sales more disappointing? Miley outsold her entire last album's sales in less than two weeks. But given how massive their radio hits and digital sales were along with them doing so much promo and being discussed everywhere online, in magazines, etc., many expected higher opening weeks. Especially Miley since she has been getting nearly nonstop media attention since "We Can't Stop", but it went to a whole new level when she did that VMA performance with Robin Thicke. But it looks like both albums will sell quite well in the long run.

How were Miley's and Katy's sales more disappointing? Miley outsold her entire last album's sales in less than two weeks. Because Miley Cyrus was the most searched thing of 2013, even more than important shit like healthcare. She had promo up the wazoo and she still couldn't pull 300k. Katy, similar story. The usual promo schedule, huge #1 hit, couldn't pull 300k. These are girls in the prime of their careers. Britney's long past hers.

I don't get why people always compare so called divas to each other but never John Mayer and Jack Johnson.

The large drop in sales really should have nothing to do with an albums first week. And Yes, considering no promo, numbers look ok.

Aww, I guess Leona isn't going to sell enough to get a prediction. :( Hope her promo will prove them wrong!

It's just more of a "thing" to compare female acts- why, I don't know.
No promo would mean just tossing an album out there with no radio singles, no videos, no talk of the album, etc. Spears had that, plus I think there is awareness that she has an album out. She just hasn't done any performances or done a media blitz this week, which is understandable, given that the Vegas residency starts soon.

If I had a nickel for every time a female singer "disappointed" this year, I'd be a billionaire. I'm starting to think we (including HDD and the labels) really have to readjust our expectations for 2014.
