A lot more debuts than I was expecting. If anything, I was anticipating a slight slow-down as a work-around for holiday busyness. (Wait..."Neon Lights" charting and "Pompeii" is, still, On The Verge...Huh?!?)
Surprisingly, Katy only gets one extra. This year's other guest hosts, Pitbull and Britney Spears, had 3 or 4. I'd have thought that "Dark Horse" would've been a shoo-in for a Breakout spot (unless there's, once again, a mystery extra in the fourth hour that didn't show up in your copy). I hope Katy will me more exciting to listen to than Britney was.
This is the last, regular, chart of the year. Ryan will be back next week to count down the top 40 of 2013.

Cool; Imagine Dragons finally hit the top, and also effectively get at least one "bonus" week with a holiday chart "freeze", as the year end show is played. "The Monster" should be the first #1 of 2014, with "Counting Stars" also a new year contender; it is now One Republic's first top 5 AT40 hit since "Apologize" ("Stop and Stare" and "Good Life" both peaked at #6).
No Two for One this week? With "Unconditionally" still in the top 10, that would be a good place for Katy to slip in another of her previous hits. I'm surprised that it's already dropping, but apparently "Dark Horse" is stealing its momentum. Meanwhile, we get another just-dropped off extra ("Gorilla").

Just finished listening to the show...
Well, Katy seemed to have more energy than Britney did. Mentions very little in the way of artist/song title information. More of that "here's number 37" stuff. She does mention a few, though. It's pretty poorly edited, honestly. She goes from a near whisper to screaming when answering a question and then introducing a song. Lots of repetition in production, too. "I'm in charge because I have the mic." Seems like they recorded her some time ago and they were just waiting for a week to use it.
Nope, no mystery extra... I've gone through and listened to the show. It's possible they might include one in the national version, but the international version is as posted. She just answered lost of questions in the final hour to kill time.

Only one extra from Katy herself, yes, but how many of you think we'd hear the song from Bonnie McKee - who's also one of Katy's frequent collaborators - ever again here, otherwise? ;)

(Wait..."Neon Lights" charting and "Pompeii" is, still, On The Verge...Huh?!?) LOL, this is practically beating us over the head with the fact that it's the affiliate chart. Either that or somebody substituted in their actual Mediabase 40-36 instead of the recurrentless 40-36 here. (Which, I suspect, is also what really happened back on August 3.) Course, even that doesn't explain "Team" being #38 (as opposed to, say, higher)...

Wow. Five debuts for the last chart of 2013. And it seems like there won't be a lot of debuts as the first chart of 2014 comes in. I find it a tad bothersome to see Robin and Demi debut when A Great Big World and Bastille are placed higher than them on the Mediabase chart. At least I'm glad that "Mirrors", "Love Somebody" and "Get Lucky" are gone. M5's hit was starting to annoy me. Katy Perry only has one extra during her time as host. I would've suggested "Hot N Cold" or "Thinking Of You", maybe "I Kissed A Girl". And one of the extras is "American Girl" by one of Katy's good friends, Bonnie McKee, who was responsible for writing several of her #1 smashes. Meanwhile, "Perfume" is the biggest jump while "Still Into You" is the biggest drop.

Show playing now. Comming up Top 10 Based on the time stamp from your post, that would indicate that the show must have started around 10:00 PM EST (?). Okay, did the iHeart station just up and change all of their air times on us? I'm tuned in, right now, because I hoped to hear the Friday 4:00 PM airing. However, looks like the same case as last night. Zip. Zero. Nada. No show playing. ???

The show started at 10:15 p.m. ET last night. Not sure if it's a change in times or a glitch. Just a hunch. I bet the show starts at 6:15 tonight.

Friday 6:37 PM ET, and the "4:00 PM" show is starting. I guess the station must be glitchy. Hope they iron it out by next week, or recording the year-end show will be a pain.

Coming back from the last commercial break, Robot Lady informs us that this week's guest host is Katy Perry...
"...the only person who has more #1 singles than Ryan has jobs"
It's funny because it's true. :)

I heard the show and I will say that Katy did a much better job of hosting than Britney did. Katy at least sounded excited to be there instead of being bored. I found it interesting that Ke$ha is in Katy's "I Kissed A Girl" video. That is something that I never knew before.
On another note, how does "Neon Lights" and "Feel Good" chart and not "Pompeii" or "Say Something"? I don't get it. Next week will be the Top 40 of the year.

I'm glad they played "E.T." without Kanye on it. It's a much better version.

With the exception of Team all the new entries are behind Pompeii in the mediabase chart.
I have the feeling that Harlem will neve make the list wich is a pity. Such a good song but it seems to totally stall, i think only an ad or a performance on a tv show (improbable because the song is not exactly easy to pull live) would save it

I'm glad they played "E.T." without Kanye on it. It's a much better version. I definitely agree with you. It's funny that after the song played, Katy went on and on about Kanye and how the version with him brought the necessary spice to it. So why didn't she have them play the single? How often do we see a block of 5 new songs starting at #40. They also did a top 10 shuffle with only #3 staying in place. Jackpot at #22 this week. She said that Kitty Purry is her cat alias. While she did much better than Britney, it still felt "phoned in" to an extent. It will be interesting to see if we get one or two weeks of the top 40 for the year.

I liked Katy's performance; some of her speaking segments ran longer than typical for a countdown, but it was nice to hear her share her thoughts. Some of the announcer's segments about Ryan's absence were funny as well.
But I found it somewhat odd that so many songs were identified just by chart number, not title or artist. I began to wonder if they had a fully completed chart ready when Katy recorded her tracks.

Katy is now counting down the chart at #38. So, the show should have started at around 10:20 am EST. They seem to be behind the schedule by 2.5 hours.

If I attempt a recording of the year-end show, I may just have to add an extra 3 hours to the recording time just to be safe and ensure that I've captured it all. If I had to guess, I'd say the station is, probably, on full automation and, most likely, no one will notice the problem until after the holidays.

So, I'm finally getting to listen to this. And yeah, this is pretty much a more energetic version of Britney's guest-hosting two weeks ago. At least that meant Katy tried to engage in the show at times instead of just using it to push herself. Did have a random snafu though - somehow the third extra from next week's year-end show ("#Beautiful") got inserted in place of Green Day. That's what had to have happened, cause Ryan did the outro there.

I remember when I used to listen to AT40 every week and the yearend charts would get screwed up where the station would play last week's show. It made me so anxious because the yearend chart was the one I'd record every year so I couldn't miss it! It became almost a recurring problem but never consistent, so one year would be fine and then the next year, part 1 of the yearend chart would be replayed two weekends in a row. The problem was always fixed but I guess it never occurred to me that it was probably due to it being the holiday season and people not being at work. Lol
