I wasn't much a fan of "Therapy" so I wasn't expecting what we actually got here. No, it's not the absolute best overall effort from Mary but I appreciate the effort still. She's not taking home a Grammy but I like that she tried something a bit different. She looked and sounded great on Wendy today.
Meanwhile, highlights for me are "Whole Damn Year","My Loving", "Pick Me Up", "Nobody But You", "Right Now" and "Follow". Good enough for Mary to get my money.

I listened to London Sessions with an open mind and no expectations. Although the sound is unlike any other MJB record, I absolutely love it. I'm glad she stepped out of the box and took a huge risk. It's definitely Grammy worthy. My favs are:
1. Doubt 2. Not Loving You 3. My Loving 4. Long Hard Look 5. Whole Damn Year 6. Nobody But You 7. Pick Me Up 8. Follow 9. Worth My Time

Oh no, you need to go therapy! Love that song. I am very pleased with this album. I think she did what she accomplished. I hope she is proud of herself. It's a better album than Mary and Share My World, over all. It's also her most cohesive and has the least amount of filler, other than My Life, The Breakthrough, Growing Pains, and, one of my personal favorites, MLII.

I meant to post yesterday, but I got tied up at work and again in the evening.
The London Sessions has to be the best Mary album I've heard in a long time. "Long Hard Look" is the only one that I find skippable, and the suite of "Whole Damn Year" through "Follow" is divine! "Doubt" sounds like an Alicia Keys song, but not in bad way and the interludes from the documentary actually work a lot better when listening to the album as a whole. I downloaded it Tuesday evening, and I've already listened to the whole thing five times through (work and company have prevented me from listening through even more times), but I just can't get enough!
Also I LOVE the early 90s vibe of "My Loving." I just keep thinking about how songs like that were popular when Mary first started and now they're popular again!

a little sad by those numbers but definitely not surprised. Hopefully she will be able to scan gold when it's all said and done. Mary said herself that they were planning to work this album so I'm sure she will be able to (staying optimistic). Her Christmas album started out very very low and was able to sell 350k in 2 months. So we will see what happens with this one.
At the end of the day, she's one of my personal favorites and I'm just happy she's still here being recognized after nearly 2.5 decades.

Those are often released during October, when very few people are buying Christmas albums. Their sales increase throughout November and December because people begin preparing for the holidays around that time. Non-holiday records are not usually affected the same way, months after release, unless generous discounts are promoted and promotional appearances increase steadily. I hope this album does well over time, though, because I have enjoyed listening to it.

I don't believe all is totally lost (is the point I was trying to make). But we will see..

Alright...officially obsessed now. Right now, in the top 3 of Mary albums for me. Whenever I play it, I play it all the way through. The only other album I can TRULY say that about is probably My Life.

She has had some good openings. It is a bit crazy to think that she hasn't an album that sold 5 million plus because she feels so much bigger than what her total album sales indicated (especially with specific eras of hers)

9. Mary J. Blige (Capitol) 40-45k / 40-45k SPS Well she's just one more on the long list of underperforming female superstars, at this point there really should be no expectation towards any female that is not called Taylor Swift.

The promotion has been horrible. Mary usually promoted her albums for the Gawds!

What's NOT to love about Therapy though Idk...the terrible grammar in the song for starters ("...go therapy"...umm "go TO therapy") and it's also a boring album opener. If she wanted an anthem then she should have led with "Doubt".
