"Therapy" and "Whole Damn Year" are like the best songs on this record. Followed by "Long Hard Look." Classic Mary sh*t trio right there!

What's NOT to love about Therapy though Idk...the terrible grammar in the song for starters ("...go therapy"...umm "go TO therapy") and it's also a boring album opener. If she wanted an anthem then she should have led with "Doubt". Gurl... "go therapy" is Mary's touch. She said she deliberately changed it from Sam Smith's original lyric. And @ "Doubt," as an album opener and otherwise.

Ch...I've already discussed that wonky grammar and it's been explained to me why it is the way it is, so...
Therapy is the most purely soulful moment on the album. I LOVE the album but it's somewhat sterile compared to that song, tbh. But hey, even the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul gotta cater to the Beckys and Becky Lovers of this world, just like she did with the Mary album. VERSATILE QUEEN.

She is #1 on Billboard's The 10 Best R&B Albums of 2014 list: www.billboard.com/articles/events/year-in-music-2014/6398486/the-10-best-rb-albums-of-20141. Mary J. Blige, The London Sessions For her past few albums, Mary J. Blige number-painted her way through passable projects that kept her star from flickering (Think Like a Man Too OST, My Life II… The Journey Continues (Act 1)). As a hip-hop/soul pioneer, she's always been at her best when she groped her way through the dark and, instead of finding light, found a new sense of self, be it emotionally or musically. It's what she did with the impeccable The London Sessions, her finest work since 2005's The Breakthrough. This time, Mary took the reigns as orchestrator, tapping the U.K.'s finest emerging talent -- Disclosure, Naughty Boy, Emeli Sandé -- to craft a flawlessly sequenced project that's equal parts deep house revival and fainting couch balladry. At once, she's the strong Mary we welcomed with 2001's No More Drama ("Right Now") and then she's broken in the aftermath of an abusive relationship ("Whole Damn Year"). Mary isn't ever perfect -- after all, it's her flaws that make her so relatable—but on The London Sessions, she's damn near close.

Best r&b album of the year, Oh please! LoL. I wonder how Mary is feeling about the abysmal first week numbers.

Best r&b album of the year, Oh please! LoL. I wonder how Mary is feeling about the abysmal first week numbers. Honestly j haven't heard a better album this year! Who do you think had a better album? I'll wait... So what first week sales were low. This CD has the potential to have some legs if the right singles are released. I remember hearing MJB for the first time in 1990 (Father MC) -- she's still here 25 yrs later. Her run is crazy -- still debuting at #1 now

I also think the latest releases by Faith, K. Michelle and J. Hud are better than London Sessions. Don't get me wrong, I like the album. I just don't think it's the best of the year.

It's not even R&B enough for me to take it into consideration for a "Best R&B Albums of 2014" list, let alone #1.

Blige Ties Aretha Franklin for the most No. 1s among Women The queen of hip-hop/soul, Mary J. Blige, returns to No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with her new genre-spanning set The London Sessions. It's her tenth No. 1, tying Blige with Aretha Franklin for the most No. 1 albums among women in the chart's 49-year history. The London Sessions sold 55,000 copies in the week ending Dec. 7, according to Nielsen Music. www.billboard.com/articles/columns/...-hip-hop-albums

Yeah, there are several R&B albums I like more than this one from this year (K. Michelle and J. Hud off the top of my head). This definitely belongs top 10 though.
And that ML2 shade was unnecessary Billboard! LMAO. I prefer it to this one.

Think Mariah's CD is better than K Michelle's..lol.
London Sessions >>>> MyLifeII>Mariah Carey>K Michelle>J Hud>Faith
I find nothing memorable about the latest albums from Mariah Carey>K Michelle>J Hud>Faith.
The great thing is we all have opinions.
Certainly I would not be posting negative comments in a thread about how the other ladies' albums do not deserve to be #1 if one of their albums was rated as such. Ain't nobody got time for that.
Get out of here and go stan in their threads...

Well thankfully I don't base my posts or opinions on what or where you think they should be. And YOU were the one who asked what R&B albums we thought were better. So you spearheaded this line of discussion.
Yes, this is a Mary J. Blige thread. And that comes with all discussion related to MJB. That includes the positives, but it also comes with the criticisms as well.

Personally my favorite R&B albums of the year were Toni Braxton & Babyface [Love, Marriage, Divorce], Marsha Ambrosius [Friends & Lovers], and Daley [Days & Nights]. I like those much better than The London Sessions, but to each it's own.
This album would be close to the bottom of the barrel for MJB albums for me and I love her. It's a solid album but not infectious for me.

Loooord knows...I love this album but Mariah's is my #1 album of the year, never mind R&B, but yeah, this is in my Top 5, for sure.

The New York Times Top 10 Albums of 2014
4. Mary J. Blige “The London Sessions” (Capitol) The self-analyzing, self-realizing Mary J. Blige of recent years, but here in collaboration with England’s new hitmakers. It’s brittle on the outside, in tense ballads and retro-R&B conjurations made with Emeli Sande and Sam Smith, and creamy on the inside, through Disclosure’s deep-house dance-pop.
List is not genre specific...

This has really grown on me as I've listened to it. The only song that I'm not 100% sold on is Worth My Time, but I still like it.

This album would be close to the bottom of the barrel for MJB albums for me and I love her. It's a solid album but not infectious for me. This album has strangely ended being my most played MJB album, although if I were to do an album-ranking right now I'd place it somewhere in the lower half of Mary's discography. This album is still just weird to me. I'm not here for the poppy ballads (they're boring so I deleted them), but I enjoy the rest of the songs... even though I think the album all around isn't that strong? AND yet I listen to it quite a lot. All that doesn't make much sense, I know. LOL. Anyhow, I hope it does as well as it can with the next singles (see, right now I can't pick a song to be released next... perhaps, "Long Hard Look" and "Follow" or "My Loving") well into 2015. Hopefully Grammy hype can help its sales some too. I don't see it getting certified though. I wonder what's next for her after this era ends? Whenever she decides to start work on a new album, I hope she serves some Hip Hop.

I'm told she's being sued over WDY because the sample wasn't cleared. That explains the lack of a live performance if true.
