All of those drops just make me cringe thinking about them... We haven't had a drop like "Slow Down" since "Two Is Better Than One" dropped 9-23, and "Wrecking Ball"'s drop looked like they cut the chain off and sent it straight down.
Why in the hell is "Feel Good" still on there? It's not even on the chart anymore, it flopped, so why keep it?
Yay for "Team" though. That's one of the biggest rises I have seen IN MY LIFE. Remind me: what was the biggest move on AT40 of all time? (And biggest drop too, since Selena dropped 23 spots this week.)
"XO" should make the chart next week.

Did Ryan make any mention of the fact that this is the 10th anniversary of his AT40 hosting gig? I see the optional for the first hour is "Hey Ya!", the #1 song 10 years ago, so I'm kind of thinking "yes".
With "TKO" falling off from #16, I believe it becomes the highest drop-off of the Seacrest era. Granted, the two holiday weeks exaggerate it, a bit, but still...
According to the web site, "Chocolate" is the Subway Fresh Buzz Song.

Going by the entirety of AT40 history, the record belongs to Michael Jackson's "Black Or White". It catapulted 35-2 the weekend of November 30, 1991. Granted, that was the week that AT40 switched charts from the Hot 100 to the Top 40 Airplay Monitor, so that record would have to be taken with a grain of salt. Can't comment on the biggest dropper off the top of my head.

Ryan also mentions that Selena's 22 position fall is the largest since 1993's Damn Yankees. That would be " Where You Goin' Now" which tumbled 12-38. Like "Slow Down", that drop also happened the week after the holiday break. So, at least, it's an apples to apples comparison.

You have to realize that all that dropping and rising is three weeks worth, not one week. So it should be expected. Yes...and no. While this does match up well compared to the overall Mediabase from December 29...that's just it, this chart here looks very much like a chart taken on a Sunday, as opposed to say, mid-week (from 17 on up, 16 and 15 are swapped, but all the rest match exactly). And I really do think that can account for some of the extra few notches we see some such as Selena, Miley, Lorde, Ellie go up or down. Cerebro is correct in that "TKO" sets a new Seacrest-era record for highest drop-off - albeit, one that should probably have an asterisk. In any case, I think the overall AT40 record for biggest dropper is Paul Davis's "Cool Night", which fell 28 notches from 11 to 39 on February 20, 1982. I haven't seen a bigger one mentioned. Selena's might be a Seacrest-era record...I'd have to double-check through the archives to see if there is a bigger one (none comes to mind at the moment).

Ryan should have mentioned that the 22 spot fall was the largest since "Madness" by Muse dropped 22 spots to #39 this past spring on the AT40 Hot AC chart! At that time Ryan also mentioned it being the biggest dropper since that song by the Damn Yankees ("Where You Goin' Now"). But I understand he has to repeat this since the CHR chart is different than the Hot AC chart, and the CHR show most likely has a completely different audience anyway.

Selena's might be a Seacrest-era record...I'd have to double-check through the archives to see if there is a bigger one (none comes to mind at the moment). Pre AT40 era, "They're Coming To Take Me Away" by Napoleon XIV dropped 32 spots from #5 to #37 in one week in 1966 after radio stations started dumping the song due to it's controversial lyrics. But it did manage a few weeks in the top 10, peaking at #3 two weeks before the big drop. I also remember "Uptown Girl" by Billy Joel dropping 26 notches to #40 in 1982, and "Midnight Blue" by Lou Gramm dropping 25 notches to #37 in early 1987. So I would guess that Paul Davis song would be the AT40 record holder for a one week drop, though as I mentioned, there certainly have been a few other songs coming close to that type of drop over the years. You just don't see it that often in the PPM era. As for Selena, yes that is a Seacrest-era record since Seacrest was 11 years away from hosting his first show in 1993, considering Ryan mentioned that Selena has the biggest drop since then. But again, theoretically it ties the Seacrest record with "Madness" by Muse which dropped by the same amount last April on the AT40 Hot AC chart. And that occurred in one single week during the spring, which made Muse's drop even more impressive!

Is there a place to hear the new show this early in the week? goodguy, The earliest that you can hear the show (as far as any of us know) is Thursday evening. These are the scheduled air times on the AT40 iHeartRadio station. All times are eastern: Thursday 8pm Friday 4pm Saturday noon Sunday 8am, noon, 4pm Monday 8am Tuesday noon The past few weeks have seen the start times delayed by, at least, 2.5 hours, for some reason. I don't know if this has been corrected, yet. For the moment, you can expect this evening's show to start some time between 10:30 and 10:45 rather than the scheduled 8pm. I believe KelownaGuy20 works for a radio station, which is how he is able to get a hold of the show a few days earlier than the rest of us.

Thanks Cerebro. I was wondering about the early postings of the chart.
Yes, I noticed the delays as well. Very confusing.
Thanks for the info.

-- 17 (01) A Great Bog World featuring Christina Aguilera - Say Something Shouldn't that be A Great Big World? Or are they reviving swamp rock? :) Among all the big moves, there are some smaller or slower ones worth mentioning. "Sweater Weather" finally enters the top 10 in its 21st week, "Can't Hold Us" gets to its 40th week, and "Clarity" its 36th (and probably last). Interesting placement of 3 Katy Perry songs: all two steps apart from each other, right in the middle of the chart (22, 20, and 18). Half the top 10 wasn't there when last regularly counted down, and two of those new entrants (the Neighbourhood and Passenger) are in there for the first time. Just outside is "Story of My Life", which may soon become 1D's second top 10 entry, and first since "What Makes You Beautiful"; in between were half a dozen songs that couldn't get past the mid-teens.

Glitches continue with the countdown on iHeartRadio. Thursday night's airing began at 10:43 p.m. EST and ended abruptly in the middle of #4 at 2 a.m.
No countdown Friday at 4 p.m. It will probably start around 6:45.

Some other places to hear AT40 online before all the U.S. stations play it. All of these have web sites with Listen links and are available on TuneIn. All times are EST.
Thursday night/Friday morning Midnight-4 a.m. - Virgin Radio Dubai (heavily edited for content) Friday 8 p.m.-midnight - Hit FM Beijing (stream not always reliable, with Chinese commercials, no edits) Saturday 12:30-4:30 a.m. - TNL Radio, Sri Lanka (sped up) Saturday 4-8 a.m. - Fly FM, Malaysia Saturday 4-8 a.m. - Hot 100, Darwin, Australia
OK, maybe it's just easier to wait for iHeartRadio to straighten out its problems. But there it is for anyone who is interested.

All in all, good chart for this week. "Dark Horse" made the chart at #20! Selena's big drop was expected, but I never expected a 22 spot drop. Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis now have the oldest song on the chart with 40 weeks on. I hope it drops off the chart soon, but it might even last a while.
As the race for #1 goes, "The Monster" should fizzle out soon enough. It will then be a fight between "Counting Stars" and "Timber". I hope they both reach the top, and then it's looking like "Burn" will get #1 after the other two.

No countdown Friday at 4 p.m. It will probably start around 6:45. Close. It started at 6:41. I'm listening to my recording of that airing. FYI. Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran's "Everything Has Changed" was played as an extra after #36. Wasn't mentioned in the original post.

When introducing #1, Ryan mentioned that for the first time ever, two solo artists teamed up twice and both times hit #1.
I'd've guessed Beyoncé & Jay Z or John Travolta & Olivia Newton John but I checked and none of them did it.

Disappointed not to hear "Troublemaker" and "Alive" on the countdown, I was pretty sure they'd make it in the last few songs. I'm guessing they wanted to play "Alive" on the year-end shows as an extra but didn't have room so they played it during the first regular weekly chart.

OK, so this chart is quite historic as Ryan Seacrest celebrates a decade of hosting the American Top 40, "Slow Down" makes the biggest drop in about 21 years and Eminem and Rihanna become the first solo acts to hit #1 together twice. Bigger drops I've seen like that (besides the ones already taken) are "Hold Me" by Fleetwood Mac, which fell from #7 to #32 in 1982, of course, almost every song that exited the AT40 that year would drop like 50 to 60 positions on the Billboard Hot 100. Meanwhile, "TKO" makes the biggest dropoff from the chart in the Seacrest era and "Wrecking Ball" takes the biggest plummet from #2 since Roxette's "Fading Like A Flower (Every Time You Leave)" dropped from #2 to #15 in 1991. It's like the 80s on this chart, but with the recurrents. I'm pretty sure that next week's chart will be drab, what with minimal movement and perhaps one or two debuts. "Marry Me" should walk out the door and "Feel Good" as well .

Lots of jarring movements this week, but not as much as on Ryan's first show 10 years ago. He said that one was his first time hosting, and if you distinguish that from guest hosting, I guess it's true. He did guest host a few times in 2003. Half the top 10 is new, it starts out with LSD and then some BS. :) Every song on the chart is in a new position. I Knew You Were Trouble was a poor choice for an extra, since it was also played the previous 2 weeks. Ryan said that the group The 1975 got it's name from something a reader had written in a poetry book. So this is not to be confused with You Sexy Thing by Hot Chocolate which came out in the 1975. By the way, it's now the 2014 not the 2013: "AMERICAN TOP 40 - JANUARY 11, 2013" (at the beginning of the playlist)
