Random Single Of The Day:
Artist: Lila McCann (feat./Jim Brickman) Single: "I'm Amazed" Album: Non-Album single Label: Broken Bow Year Released: September, 2005 Radio and Records Peak: #52 Billboard Peak: #59
Lila McCann is a singer from Steilacoom, Washington. Her debut single was "Down Came A Blackbird" in 1997 at just 15 years old. The song would make the top 30 and be off her Lila album. Then she had her first of two top 10 singles with "I Wanna Fall In Love" (#3). The follow up failed to make the top 40 ("Almost Over You" #42), and "Yippy Kay Yay" only got to #63. In 1999 she had her other top 10 single "With You" (#9) off her Something In The Air album. Unfortunately she wouldn't score another top 30 single and she dropped from Warner Bros. who took her after the closure of Asylum. She signed with Broken Bow in 2005 and put out 5 singles. Her final charting single was in early 2008 with "That's What Angels Do" (#60). The song was later recorded and released by Laura Bell Bundy in 2012.
This is my favorite song of hers and one of my favorites of 2005 which had plenty of great singles. The song features Jim Brickman on piano and he was credited on the charts while this song was out. "I'm Amazed" only got added to 19 monitored R&R stations, which is downright absurd if you ask me.
Week Ending: 11/4/2005 R&R

Maybe some other time. :) There isn't a music video for that particular one and I wanted to do an actual music video today since yesterday's was just the audio of a single.

Another case of "be careful what you wish for" if you want a high debuting song ("Once In A Lifetime", "The Wind", "Feel Like A Rockstar", etc. )

At least she got back to the top 20 with "Work Hard, Play Harder" (#16 on MB, #18 on BB) in 2010.

At least she got back to the top 20 with "Work Hard, Play Harder" (#16 on MB, #18 on BB) in 2010. Yes. It's too bad she got pigeonholed by the types of songs she sang. I still like One Of The Boys, but that was not a big hit for her. I think "I Don't Feel Like Loving You Today" was the turning point. I know that 2005 was a better year in country music in terms of slower songs working at radio but that was just a bad choice for a follow up to "All Jacked Up" and it showed with the peaks of "Politically Uncorrect" (#20 on R&R), and "California Girls" (#23 on MB). Then her third album, they led off with "Come To Bed" which was another bad choice for a single (and a lead single at that). Then "One Of The Boys" followed. I enjoyed that particular song as well, but again, not the right choice at that point in time. If it weren't for "Work Hard, "Play Harder", that song would have been her final trip to the top 40. I agree that songs like "Redneck Woman", "Here For The Party" and "Homewrecker" might have actually done her some harm as that was the image that country radio might have associated with her. If I recall "One Of The Boys" went up fairly quick and I though that perhaps she might get back on track. Then it hit a brick wall in the mid 30's and stalled.

Random Videos Of the Day:
Artist: Tim McGraw Single: "Unbroken" Writers: Annie Roboff, Holly Lamar Album: Set This Circus Down Label: Curb Producer: Byron Gallimore Year Released: May 20th, 2002 Radio and Records Peak: #2 Billboard Peak: #1
Artist: Darryl Worley Single: "I Miss My Friend" Writers: Tom Shapiro, Mark Nesler, Tony Martin Album: I Miss My Friend Label: DreamWorks Video Director: Shaun Silva Year Released: March 11th, 2002 Radio and Records Peak: #1 Billboard Peak: #1
Artist: Sara Evans Single: "I Keep Looking" Writers: Sara Evans, Tom Shapiro, Tony Martin Album: Born To Fly Label: RCA Nashville Producer: Paul Worley Year Released: March 18th, 2002 Radio and Records Peak: #5 Billboard Peak: #5
I usually don't do three singles all in the top 5 of a chart but I decided to today. Tim's is actually one of my favorites from him just because of the unique production and arrangement. Darryl's was obviously one of his best songs, but the only downside was that is was overplayed at the time but being almost 12 years later (wow at these songs being 12 years old by the way), it's now very enjoyable again. Sara'a was a top 5 single though it seems to be forgotten about because of the success of her other singles off Born To Fly ("Born To Fly", "I Could Not Ask For More").
Week Ending: 8/30/2002 R&R

Random Video Of The Day:Artist: Jace Everett Single: "That's The Kind Of Love I'm In" Writers: Casey Beathard, Michael Patrick Heeney Album: Jace EverettLabel: Epic Nashville Video Director: David McClister Year Released: June, 2005 Radio And Records: #49 Billboard Peak: #52 Going to do two videos today with the other following this one. Jace Everett is a 41 year old singer/songwriter from Evansville, Indiana. Jace signed to Epic in 2005 and released his debut single "That's The Kind Of Love I'm In" in the late spring of that year. The song would peak at #49 on Radio And Records and be off his self-titled debut album. The follow up was "Bad Things". Though the song failed to chart in America, it did chart in England, Sweden, and Norway because of it's use as the theme song on the HBO series True Blood in 2008. The final two singles from the album was the very underrated "Nowhere In The Neighborhood", and "Everything I Want". After the latter failed to chart, Jace was dropped by the label. He also co-wrote one of 2006's biggest singles "Your Man" by Josh Turner. Since the re-release of "Bad Things", Jace has recorded a few more albums with some success overseas. His latest album was entitled Terra Rosa which was release digitally by Haywood Group Productions. Hey, I am from Evansville, IN!!! I remember Jace, man this takes me back to 2005, thanks for reminding me we had a Country Singer here a few years back that is from my hometown in Indiana.

Random Video Of The Day:Artist: Jimmy Buffett with Martina McBride Single: "Trip Around The Sun" Writers: Al Anderson, Stephen Bruton, Sharon Vaughn Album: License To ChillLabel: Mailboat/RCA Nashville Video Director: Trey Fanjoy Year Released: September, 2004 Radio and Records Peak: #18 Billboard Peak: #20 "Trip Around The Sun" was the final single from Jimmy Buffett's country album License To Chill which featured many duets with country artists. This song features Martina McBride and is yet another Al Anderson co-write. Jimmy Buffett is known for his island paradise style of songs and albums, and the 67 year old has been at it for over 40 years. His signature hit "Margaritaville" was his highest charting single for a long while as it reached #13 on the country charts and #8 on the pop charts in 1977. That is until 2003 when he was credited on Alan Jackson's huge #1 single "It's Five O' Clock Somewhere". He then hit the top 10 again in 2004 with his remake of Hank Williams' "Hey Good Lookin' (#8). Buffett has made 27 studio albums and has performed for countless of his parrothead fans throughout the years. Jimmy also has ventured in the business and movie industry making cameos in movies, writing soundtracks and having his own restaurant chain. He also has worked with the Miami Dolphins with the name Landshark stadium and has owned two minor league baseball teams. His latest studio album was in 2013 with Songs from St.Somewhere. Jimmy's final charting single was in late 2006 with "Bama Breeze". The song was one of the first single credits for writers Josh Kear and Chris Tompkins, who is known for writing songs such as "Before He Cheats" and "Blown Away" by Carrie Underwood, "Kiss Me When I'm Down" by Gary Allan, "Redneck Crazy" by Tyler Farr, and "Helluva Life" by Frankie Ballard to name but a few. I remember my Mom, and Dad liking this song a lot back when it came out, and today was the first time I've heard this song since it was probably on the charts. A very good song I think. I also liked "Bama Breeze" and was a bit surprised that it barely charted. I remember WYRK played the heck out of his remake with "Hey Good Lookin'. So much so, I hated it when it's chart run was over. I also find it humorous that his first three credited singles were the "Poopi-Do", "Abandoned On Tuesday", and "The Christian?" in 1969 and 1970. Talk about some strange titles for your first three singles. By the way this song was on the charts during the end of "How Far" chart run and the release of Martina's single "God's Will". Another two songs I haven't heard in quite a long time. Man, I can't believe this song and video are turning 10 years old this Fall, it seems like yesterday. I love this song and this video. It's beautiful and Martina just shines in this video.

No problem. I'm super glad that somebody commented on that song. The biggest reason this is on my iTunes was because it totally takes me back to 2005 and pure nostalgia. Jace is also a great guy and I remember him being interviewed on GAC and noticing how quiet and down to earth he was. His "Nowhere In The Neighborhood" single was great as well but it unfortunately never charted.

"Nowhere In The Neighborhood" was my favorite single of his but I really loved "Gold" as an album track. His take on "Half My Mistakes" was really strong too. It's been recorded a few times that song and I think Jace's is my favorite take. I have his 'Red Revelations' album too and while I didn't like it as much it was still a really strong album. I know he has other albums out there but I haven't tracked them down yet but I plan to in the future.

She did an amazing job. Trisha recorded this song too, and not many people can compare to anything Trisha touches. Rebecca's version may have topped it though.

The R&R chart I have actually says "Jolie & The Edwards". But looking them up, it clearly was "The Wanted". Jolie's last name was Edwards, so it appears that I was victim to a 14 year old typo. I should have known better though cause Jolie & the Edwards doesn't even make sense. "Paradise" is probably in my top 5 Craig singles as well with "Almost Home" and "This Ain't Nothin'" being the only one's I would put ahead of it.

Steve's song along with others benefited from many songs going to recurrent land this week. After this "Rock-A-Bye Heart" would fall to #34 then to #35 for three weeks before falling out for good, and a pretty fast flame out.
* At first country radio played the second version with Allison Moorer due to Sheyl's label not giving permission to Kid Rock's to release the song as a single. But as you can see, many ignored and the original version would take off.
