New R&B act on RCA. Her Black Water mixtape (featuring production from Boi-1da, Dev Hynes and more) came out a couple of months ago. It's like a mix between Aaliyah and Jessie Ware.
Her debut single is "2 On" featuring ScHoolboy Q and produced by DJ Mustard.

I'm rooting for her this year. There's such a rich mixtape R&B scene that's been flourishing behind the scenes for a few years now. Apart from mildly embracing The Weeknd's sound for a bit (mainly thanks to Drake) none of this has translated into success at the radio format. There's no better time for a format renaissance though, as radio R&B is at an all time low (ok, maybe 2002 aside) and underground/blog/whateveryouwannacallit R&B is reaching an all time high. Tinashe isn't the only one but she's sure among the interesting & accessible new artists that ought to break through this year.
Anyway, I was a fan of hers since 2012 when I heard this song & remix:
Also who's seen her ProActiv commercials? j/w

I remember her cover of "How To Love," but hadn't heard anything from her again until the mixtapes last year. "Lets Roll" is a jam, and it should ignite interest. I hope she keeps the album more diverse, though.
This is still my favorite:

Album is called Aquarius and is slated for a "summer" release and features collabs with Future, A$ap Rocky and Travis Scott.
I love her mixtapes and 2 On is one of my favorite current songs. I'm a little worried the album is going to go more in the direction of 2 On than her mixtape stuff tho.

"2 On" is currently #11 at Urban and Rhythmic. Should break the Top 10 at both soon.

It's awesome to see Tinashe with an actual hit on her hands. I love "2 On" so don't get it twisted, but I hope her own artistry shines through in time since having a hit essentially required typical Mustard on the beat.

I wonder if they'll push this release back to fall since Jhene is releasing at the end of summer. I love both of them and will be picking up both albums for sure but they definitely fall under a lot of the same categories as moody, light voiced, vibey R&B.

Why would it be an issue if her album sounded more like '2 On' ? I think her mixtape material is really interesting, but '2 On' is more of a solid song from front to back.

I hope they push this girl right, she has a crossover voice. She has marketability now with a hit and she can perform.
Rooting for her.

I've seen that video of her performing the National Anthem. That's when I started taking her seriously because she can actually sing pretty well live.

Yeah, both her and Jhene actually have great voices for the most part. They are definitely more along the lines of Aaliyah than Cassie in terms of having light, soft voices that actually translate well in live performances.
Excited that she got a release date finally.

Is she big enough yet to land a performance at the VMAs? Cause the song is big enough and with her album coming out a month after the awards that would be a perfect vehicle. I hope her team is working the phones to help this girl go crossover, so she can hopefully open a few spots for others in the future.

I'm not sure what to make of that beat or the song, its cute in certain parts and I love her tone. I think a nice little #8 album track.

I agree with putting her on the VMAs. Would be a perfect way to promote the single to the mainstream audience as well as her album.

I love her voice and the lyrics of the song but the beat is a little too busy for me. It's not bad but I kind of hope it's not on the album.

I think Black Water is my favorite of the three (I never even listen to Reverie tbh) but In Case We Die has some of her best songs ever like That, Let You Love Me, The Last Night on Earth and my personal favorite This Feeling.

Xylophone is cute. It was recorded for Dave Sitek's At Any Cost EP sponsored by Dr. Pepper Studio; I doubt it will be featured on her album.
I'm curious to hear what her follow-up single to 2 On will sound like.

I hope Ryan Hemsworth produced something for the album. Their collaboration One For Me for his album is amazing.

I hope RCA doesn't drop the ball on promo for the album because they've done a pretty great job on selling the single.

I'm a tad disappointed in its itunes performance but it was expected. I was hoping it would fare better.

I'm a tad disappointed in its itunes performance but it was expected. I was hoping it would fare better. She's getting a lot of internet buzz though. She could very well be the next social media darling, if FKA Twigs (another aquarius, go figure!) doesn't manage to give her any competition. Tinashe is more accessible though, but then there's no set rule that says they both couldn't sneak their way into the limelight. Anyway, '2 On' isn't bad.
