Boring indie-folk. This isn't very good.

I'm personally not a fan, but we all have our opinions LOL, once again I'm going to have to agree with Green Baron and disagree with allow that and the rest of the pop posters everyone who likes this song. This song does next to nothing for me, nor do I see what is so special about it, and am also perplexed that it's flying up the Alternative chart. Didn't this song already make its way through AAA months ago? Why is it getting all this attention now? The only thing interesting I find about this guy is that he has a law degree. EDIT: Apologies for the assumption, lol. I can be impulsive sometimes, even when typing.

I'm a "pop poster"? That's news to me. Personally I don't see the need to go into song topics just to say "this sucks!". I could easily go into 90% of the active leaning songs in this forum and do exactly that, but why try it?

I don't mind it if people post dissenting opinions about a particular song and then back it up with reasons, or say it in a respectful manner without blindly attacking the songs. I like having friendly debates about songs, whether it's one I really like or it's one that I don't like at all. Also, I'm a pretty big fan of the active leaning songs, so pardon my dislike of many of the indie songs currently charting. ;)

People just need to stop complaining about the state of Alternative radio right now. It is way better than it was in the mid 2000's when the chart was flooded with active rock songs. There is a reason that there is an active rock chart. The Alternative chart right has a better balance of songs than there has been in a long time. And last time I checked, Alternative radio is getting better ratings than ever. So most of you on here are clearly in the minority.

The chart was flooded with active rock songs in the early 2000s. By the mid 2000s I think there was a pretty good balance of music on the chart. (I think the chart is too poppy nowadays.) Don't believe me? Take a look at the Top 20 from one week in 2005 (ratings aside): popradiotop20.com/Alt-2005-08-12.htmThere are only three bands on the chart that could be considered a core Active rock band (Staind, Seether, and Trapt. Audioslave and SOAD I feel could go either way.) The rest of the songs I would say definitely fit the Alternative definition.

We're all going to have our own opinions. Personally, I think this is the least amount of interest that I've ever had with the Alternative chart since I got into music about twenty years ago, but for fans of the indie/hipster scene or less variety, they're going to like it.

Wow, James Keogh is now up for 4 APRA Awards, including Song of the Year. Congrats! Since Riptide is really smashing on alternative, after doing well on AAA, what is the hold up on sending this to pop in the US?!

Sort of liked it initially, burned out fast by the time it was near its peak on AAA. It's okay I guess, but I don't really understand why it's off to such a strong start. There's nothing really distinctive about it.

There's nothing really distinctive about it. Except that it hit #1 on the Tripple J's Hottest 100 chart, which seems to be the land Alternative picks from sometimes.

I heard this for the first time over the weekend after my co-worker used it in an Instagram video and I couldn't get it out of my head.

Almost in the Top 100 on iTunes. Definite smash potential - feel like it really could do something at Hot AC, if not pop.

Alternative radio is really hyping him up as the next breakout alternative star, or at least the song. This will definitely be big there. It's 30 spins away from Top 10.

After hearing this a few more times, I'll concede that I was a bit harsh on this, considering it's kind of catchy. However, I'm still not a fan of it and am also unsure of the near-unanimous praise.

I see Pop eating this up soon. He and George Ezra are the next breakout folk-pop stars. I see this making waves there around September, and Budapest will follow in its footsteps.
