This song is nowhere near as good as 'Follow Your Arrow' or 'Merry Go Round'. In fact, in terms of female singer-songwriters, for someone as hailed as Kacey there are better unreleased tracks on the most recent Ashley Monroe and Taylor Swift albums. I also think it's unfortunate that the fantastic 'It Is What It Is' won't see the light of day at radio. I love "It Is What It Is" too, as it's one of my favorites on the album. But "Keep It to Yourself" is way more radio-friendly, and if radio is hesitant to play this, I can't imagine them embracing "It Is What It Is".

I''m loving this so much lately, Kacey's style just fits her perfectly. This is certainly her most radio-friendly release since MGR; FYA and Blowin' Smoke as single choices probably hurt her. I wonder how this would have done if it had been released after MGR.
On the subject of Kacey's success; I don't see her ever becoming a huge mainstream star, but she will probably continue to have a solid following and little to no radio support. Miranda Lambert's career path could be similar to Kacey's future. It took her 4 albums to take off 4 years to have her first #1. She was winning album of the year awards and selling platinum albums years before she had her breakthrough, though.

I'm very pleasantly surprised at the good week this had. It moves 48-43*, and gains over 500K in AI. Maybe it will turn in to a minor hit after all.

Yep, another 5-spot jump this week, and that makes for a 10-spot jump in the last 2 weeks. It's also top 10 most added at Mediabase this week with another 8 adds. She's definitely picking up some steam here! :)

Fingers crossed! I don't want to jinx anything, but it's definitely promising that the song has really picked up steam since cracking the top 50.

Yeah, heard this on Nash FM 94.7 yesterday and was ecstatic. I'll be happy if this at least becomes a decent-sized hit like "Blowin' Smoke". Hope they do a video for this soon too.

This is picking up more and more steam; it had a fantastic gain today (Friday) (+50 spins).
*edit* Looks like it is really taking off now. +35 yesterday (Saturday), +37 today (Sunday).

Things are starting to look up for this one to be at least a moderate success. This makes me happy to see.

I'm glad to see that I was wrong about this. The last couple of weeks have been really encouraging. Let's hope that the gains keep coming.

AND she was the second most added this week! Only behind Blake! Billboard's adds system is different than Mediabase's (and perhaps you know this, but just in case others don't). Kacey got 20 adds at BB this past week, but BB's adds system is a "first-time plays" adds system...a song is counted as "added" when it reaches 7 plays a week on a station. So, in this case, Kacey reached a minimum of 7 plays for the first time at 20 new stations this past week. Several of them were probably playing the song before, but less than 7 times a week. At Mediabase, Kacey got another 5 adds today. Mediabase's AddBoard isn't auto-add like Billboard, so it's likely that these stations either just started playing KITY or are planning to start programming it into the playlist this week. That's just me nerding out though. No matter how you slice it, this one has had another good week and things are looking up.

While I will be happy if this gets to that level (and thus can't be considered an outright flop), it really needs to go a lot higher (and I still think it can). It's not only the most radio-friendly song from her album but also her first single not to have any of the "attitude" that has made critics/fans embrace her but radio programmers dislike her. It pretty much just is "Need You Now: The Rebuttal" so shouldn't be subject to any of the opposition that slowed down stuff like Follow Your Arrow. Working against it is that it's the 4th single AND has a very, very low-key vocal for what could easily be a soaring ballad.

Well this started the week with a negative bullet, #40, but somehow just got the Cumulus block. UMG/Mercury at work for once? Strange for Cumulus to do that for someone in this position with no major top 10 history.

This isn't going anywhere. It'll make a little dent in the Top 40 and then fade away, unfortunately. Verdict is still out on where this one is going, especially since it just picked up 18 stations and is up from 3.2 to 3.6. Going to wait a few more weeks to see what impact this weeks adds will have if any.

Weird that this song keeps getting new adds but isn't really moving at all.
Also - does anyone know why AA keeps listing this ahead of the Jon Pardi & Natalie Stovall songs, which both have more spins? It's been like this for a while - wonder if there's something I'm missing.

But All Access' default listing is based on spins rather than audience size... Or am I still missing something?

Or am I still missing something? I woudn't use "All Access" chart numbers for anything but a 'guide,' similar to the HDD sales projections and final reports (which listed MJ's album ahead of The Black Keys when The Black Keys actually outscanned MJ).

It's got more points. Mediabase ranks based on points and All Access uses Mediabase's charts.

They're not really equitable though. All Access is a public source of data from Mediabase, which is one of two actual authorities for airplay. Hits Daily Double sticks to its own tracking/chart system - which no one puts in the same breath as the Billboard 200. To me, using All Access for Mediabase data is equivalent to using Billboard for Nielsen SoundScan data.

Weird that this song keeps getting new adds but isn't really moving at all. I wouldn't exactly say that it's not really moving at all. Sure, the spin bullet is lower right now, but this song is up more than 600k in the last 2 days at Mediabase, and aside from the new Lady A, ZBB, and Brantley singles, no other song outside the MB top 30 has gained as much audience as Kacey has so far this week. Kacey's got a pretty good chance to climb 3-5 more spots on the next Billboard chart, which will put her right on the cusp of the top 35.
