She'll be lucky to be nominated. Ask JT. "frozen" damn near has the win on lock and I also see Pharrell getting the nom. A few things to note: 1) Bey has twice the amount of Grammy noms & wins than JT with 17 Grammys (14 as a solo artist) and 45 nominations in comparison to JT's 9 Grammys and 24 nominations. I'm not saying that JT isn't loved by them, but it's clear who the darling is between the two. 2) The 20/20 Experience: Part 1 got a 75 on Metacritic and Part 2 got a 60. BEYONCÉ got an 85. 3) Domestically, The 20/20 Experience: Part 1 has sold 2.427 million and Part 2 has sold 982k to date. BEYONCÉ has sold 1.968 million copies to date. That's more than half of the total sales of both Parts combined in a timespan of less than 6 months as opposed to Timberlake's +1 year old Part 1 and his almost 1 year old Part 2. 4) Both had singles that performed similarly on Top 40. Bey had "Drunk in Love", JT had "Suit & Tie" and "Mirrors". Genre-wise, Bey's singles have seen more success than JT's did. Commercially + critically, Bey's nomination is far more likely than JT's. However, I still think "Frozen" is the current album to beat. I see it being one of the front-runners.

I think their album was released in last year's eligibility period.
And yes, I think Beyoncé stands a better shot at being nominated/winning than JT, even though that also seemed like a lock a year ago.
Sam Smith is probably going to be a big contender.

Sam Smith is the new Adele. Now, I'm saying this not even knowing I'd he is eligible!

With JT, Alicia, and now Bey not getting automatic R&B noms like they used to. Alicia JUST won her first Grammy since.....2008? 2) Media Critic ok........ Teenage Dream anyone? 3) Sales mean nothing. See The Blessed Unrest. 4) See #3.

Honestly six months in and I don't think I've heard anything worthy of being labelled record of the year yet.

Completely agree w/ HitsDD that this is Sam Smith's year to dominate.
I expect nominations in all Big 4 categories.

With JT, Alicia, and now Bey not getting automatic R&B noms like they used to. Alicia JUST won her first Grammy since.....2008? 2) Media Critic ok........ Teenage Dream anyone? 3) Sales mean nothing. See The Blessed Unrest. 4) See #3. 1) Did her last album not win Best R&B Album... this year? Research your stuff. She's not the Grammy darling she used to be because she hasn't put out material that's worthy of it. That, and she hasn't seen commercial success the way she did in the '00s. She peaked, but it's not like they've turned on her the way you make it seem. 2) One example of an album with a low score? Ooh, good argument. You and I both know damn well why Teenage Dream was nominated, and it wasn't because of its Metacritic score or album sales. It was an... event era (just because I can't think of a better way to put it). Did other albums deserve the nod more? Absolutely. But is BEYONCÉ not an event era? (Spoiler alert: it is.) 3) They mean a lot when you can tack it onto a combo of having solid single releases + chart success + major buzz + critical acclaim + everything else that went right with an album release. They mean virtually nothing in retrospect, but when piled on top of everything else, it's just another thing that sets one album's credentials to be in the category above the others. 4) See #3. I doubt you'll change your place on this, though, and I certainly won't change mine, so let's pick this back up in December when the nominations come out and we can discuss this some more then. Happy hump day!

Any thoughts on Kanye? He's had a tough go of it with general field nominations since 808s but he said he wants his next album (presumably to be released this year) to be "his Born in the USA". If he is going for something with more mass appeal, could we see him back contending for AOTY? Still can't get over MBDTF not getting nominated.

The Academy may frown at Iggy being nominated twice. Has this happened before?

I thought Happy was the shoe-in choice for Record and Song of the Year...that was until I heard the Ed S single. It didn't even sound like him. It's a cool song that's very well sung. I hadn't paid much attention to him since he did a cheesy song with Taylor Swift. I just thought he was a hyped up Brit singer/songwriter.
I still give it to Happy but I think Sing will be nominated in both categories, too. And the Paramore song, Ain't It Funny. Really surprised this group came up with this song. I like (is it Halley?) Halley's voice but didn't give the group much credit to last after their kid/teen fan base grew up. Really great song!

Front runners right now are Coldplay, Sam Smith, Beyoncé, Iggy (BNA + Hip-hop categories), Black Keys for Rock categories, John Legend for R&B & song of the year. I can see nominations for Adele, Lana Del Rey and Pharrell as well.

I'd be good if Happy or All of Me won. Both deserve it.

I'll be interested to see what happens with John Legend. His album was nominated last year, so I wonder if they already submitted "All Of Me" for consideration last year... it WAS the first single, and it was originally released back in August of 2013.

If this world is a just and fair world, Miranda Lambert will sweep the Country category. Well that's f**king stupid.

How were "We Belong Together" and "Jesus Walks" previously nominated for Song of the Year if songs with samples are just now becoming eligible?
