Wildest dreams is the event of the tour. It made me fall in love deeply with the song. I need an official live version now

Is Meghan Trainor Riding On The Coattails of Taylor Swift? The Album Sales Indicate YesThe remix of Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood”—featuring (if not downright co-starring) the inimitable Kendrick Lamar—made huge gains this week. Following a record-breaking release on Vevo, the song zoomed “to the top of the Digital Songs chart,” and leapt “31 spots on the Radio Tally in one week.” Most impressively, the song skyrocketed to the top position on the Billboard 100 after previously clocking in at number fifty three. Results on the Billboard 200 were also quite palpable for Swift: “Bad Blood” is the fourth single from 1989, and with its sudden rise, the album itself leapt from ninth position to number two on the album charts, a veritable feat for any record in this single-serving music industry. ADVERTISING But Taylor Swift is not alone in making huge leaps on the Billboard 200 this week. Meghan Trainor’s debut, Title, also jumped seven places, from twelfth position to number five. This in and of itself means nothing. But look back through the Billboard 200 over the last two months and you might notice a connection between these two albums. Indeed, throughout much of April and May, the chart positions of both LPs seemed intertwined: On May 2nd, when 1989 dropped two positions, and so did Title. While other albums on the 200 moved up, down, or off the chart entirely, these two albums stayed in exactly the same place relative to each other. This occurred during the weeks of May 30th, April 11th and April 4th, to cite three examples of that trend. To be clear, I’m not saying that their respective positions line up perfectly from week to week. There are obvious exceptions: On April 18th, 1989 held its own at number five, while Title dropped two places to number thirteen. A similar drop occurred the week of May 23rd, with 1989 staying in the same place as Title dropped from ten to twelve. A third inconsistency: on the week ending May 9th, Title gained two points, while 1989 only gained one. So yes, there are statistical variations. It would be a little too pat if each album moved exactly in step with the other; that wouldn’t be a trend, but rather, a suggestion of external manipulation. However, within the window of acceptable, statistical variation, one can see something of a trend: with one exception in the last month, the movements of Title and 1989 have always been within two positions of each other: if one album stayed the same while the other moved, it was usually only within a margin of two positions (the sole exception occurred the week ending May 16th, when the variation between the two ticked slightly from two to three). Perhaps more tellingly, at no moment in the last two months did one album rise while the other fell, leaving one to conclude that within the window of acceptable variation, there’s a link between sales of these two albums for the last two months—a relationship between their individual ebbs and flows, which is remarkable considering that no such relationship holds for their respective singles. Indeed, no such correlation can be drawn on the Billboard 100 chart: oftentimes in the past couple of months, a Swift single and a Trainor track moved in opposite directions. Sometimes there were twice (or three times) as many Swift singles near the top ten as there were Trainor songs. Furthermore, it’s worth noting that Trainor hasn’t scored a top ten hit since march 14th, whereas Swift’s top ten hit before “Bad Blood” peaked more than a month after Trainor’s, on April 25th. If we examine other artists of similar ilk (similar to each other that is—not to Trainor or Swift) we can see no similar patterns or relationships on the Billboard 200. Take Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran, both young white solo acts in the singer/songwriter vein, both sporting similarly sultry and soulful vocals. For the past two months, their albums have risen and ducked independently, often oscillating in opposite directions. If we’re going to group acts together by genre or micro-genre, there’s no pattern to discern between Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s latest offerings either—two albums which have been discussed together by various online outlets (not including separate Twitter debates). For instance, on April 18th, both records sallied downwards, but the week after that, Drake rose while Kendrick fell. By May 16th, Drake was occupying the number five position, while Kendrick dropped further to number nineteen. Let’s take a look at the Billboard 200 in general for a moment. It is not unreasonable to postulate that this chart is an unpredictable beast: new albums often fall dramatically within a week (take Shawn Mendes, for example, whose album Handwritten dropped from one to seventeen in a week’s time) and compilations can be particularly disruptive to the prospects of individual artists (the Now That’s What I Call Music series comes to mind). The same goes for soundtracks, whose appearance can throw a wrench in the positions of traditional LPs; for the week ending May 30th, three different soundtracks helped rearrange the top ten. Up until recently, the Billboard 200 was based on digital and analog sales of albums and EPs, meaning it sought to track how artists were selling on a more holistic level. They reconfigured their model last year to incorporate streaming into the mix. Even so, the organization attempted to do so in a way that would still track “an album’s popularity by reflecting not just sales, but consumption activity.” Can one hold this recent change accountable for the correlation between Trainor and Swift? It seems not: Billboard still releases a Top Album Sales chart which functions like the Billboard 200 of old. By this metric, Trainor and Swift are still linked in a similar manner as the way described above (moving in the same direction, usually within two points of each other, with minimal exceptions). The other examples listed do not follow any such pattern. So here we’ve established two trends: that this environment is volatile, and that within this volatile environment, there seems to be a pattern between the album sales of Meghan Trainor and Taylor Swift. Now as many are fond of saying, correlation does not equally causation. What this particular correlation does provide, however, is a snapshot into what kind of acts have the biggest selling power in this current market, one in which sales decrease while streaming becomes the new metric. This pattern seems to suggest which acts are still likely to sell album units holistically, and moreover, how these acts relate to one another. For Meghan Trainor’s camp, this pattern also suggests something very useful in terms of projections: if her people want to see how well Title well sell next week, to some extent they only need to see how people are reacting to Taylor Swift this week. In other words, Trainor’s camp seem to have more than their own engines at their disposal—they also have Taylor Swift’s. www.forbes.com/sites/nickmessitte/2015/05/31/is-meghan-trainor-riding-on-the-coattails-of-taylor-swift-the-album-sales-indicate-yes/3/

Shania Twain on Taylor: Anyone in today's country music that has caught your ear? Lady Antebellum stands out for me. They have their own sound and they are just really strong, and good and talented all the way around. I think Taylor [Swift] is amazing. She seems like she is just getting better all the time. She is just maturing so beautifully, so it's nice to watch her. With her pop crossover success, Taylor mirrors your own career in a way. Yeah, the crossover thing — it can be challenging, but she is doing it very beautifully. You know, I enjoyed the audiences more since my music started crossing over, because it brings in so many dimensions. There's every age and it's both sexes and it makes for a very dynamic night. www.rollingstone.com/music/features/shania-twain-on-final-tour-new-album-and-taylor-swift-20150604?page=2

Has anyone bought the VIP Package 1 for the 1989 tour or has seen Taylor having purchased this package?

I feel like Clean would be so different for her, but the meaning behind that song is so universally relatable I wouldn't mind seeing it released as the final single.

Mine too which is really saying something considering I like a lot of the tracks on here. Maybe it's because I'm in the middle of a similar situation in my personal life right now, but even if I wasn't it's still an amazing song.

I saw the 1989 tour in Charlotte last night! Just amazing! I was high up in the 200s and had a great view of all the tricks like the floating stage, pyro, flying paper airplanes, and so much more. She sang the entire 1989 album except "Wonderland." I loved the new versions of "Love Story" "I Knew You Were Trouble" and "Never, Ever." I've been to every tour she has since she was Brad Paisley's opening act 9 years ago. This tour is her best yet!
And I agree "Clean" would be a great single. Actually it's the only song on 1989 that I could see being remixed and sent to Country, but I know that wouldn't happen. It would work though.

Show was amazing, as well. I'm not expecting to be picked out of the 50,000+ people at her DC show, but I'm just curious what made her pick you. Were you close to the stage? Far? Dressed up? Dancing/singing like a super stan? I've always been so curious as to how they choose the people.

If you really want to compare, I think, the SPS for Fearless is around 8,5-8,7 Million Unit. Just in case you really want to pit this with TD, with the addition from The Complete Confection, TD is at around 6 Million, I think.

Doubt it - the other two have listings too - though they're as "digital e-singles," while despite that listing, "New Romantics" can't actually be bought from them right now (the link on that listing goes to her artist page, and there's no "digital e-single" listing for it either). Weird.

I remember Rolling Stone calling it the #2 best song of the year, it's a strong choice anyways (though i prefer WD Calvin Harris remix)
