Both Nicki and Taylor need to chill. And Taylor needs to stop making everything a feminist issue. That was laughable.

Taylor was applauded for speaking out against Apple for not including a stipulation that songwriters were to be compensated during the Apple Music trial period.

Nicki needs to chill out. Taylor was absolutely right. Don't put down Taylor and "slim girls" just because you didn't get nominated. She should be pissed that there aren't more women in the category instead of fighting over which "kind" of women were nominated. And Beyonce was nominated as well so her argument about race doesnt even hold up.

I've made my views on Nicki pretty clear in her thread so I won't get into it here, but Taylor's ego is bursting lately as well. I forget who said she's the "devil in sheep's clothing" (Or maybe it was Katy? In which case I usually just ignore her so...) but ANYWAY I'm beginning to see that point more and more. Her superstar status mixed with her business acumen, grasp on industry social politics, and general passive aggressiveness is creating the perfect storm of "fakeness." She portrays herself as this nice girl who has sleepovers with fans and keeps her AIM-era Twitter handle to prove she's common folk. Yet, as her celebrity builds to sky high levels she wants to keep that "average girl" image while constantly bragging that all of her friends are celebs and only associating with models. It can't work both ways! And much like Beyonce, Taylor has the crystal clear image because she never OVERTLY talks trash about other artists. However, unlike Ms. Carter-Knowles she's quick to throw passive aggressive jabs only to cower and deny and employ the "what? No I love everyone!" card. So basically, she got a taste of her own medicine from Nicki's "huh?" tweet. Taylor probablyyy should have just ignored the whole thing and let Nicki have come across as sour grapes. Instead, she let her ego get in the way and this time it backfired... because even though Nicki is an asshole with superficial motives, Taylor's still coming across as an egocentric ignoramous because white privilege/black bias DOES exist. And she just inserted herself in the middle of it! And the whole "come on stage with me!!" thing is fake and petty as hell and goes to show just how invincible Taylor is in her own head. It's just an ego eat ego music world these days!

Nicki may be bitter and immature, but Taylor inserted herself when she shouldn't have, tried to backtrack with a fake "I'm sorry come on stage with ME when I win!" and exposed her massive ego again. Taylor (of ALL people), choosing to chide Nicki over tearing down her fellow females is hilarious, since Taylor has dons more than her fair share of tearing down BOTH sexes through her songs. Her public image/hyprocrisy is so nauseating. I typically can ignore artists with huge egos (lbr, EVERY famous artist has one), but at least Nicki is being honest and doesn't hide her real feelings behind the "ME! I'm so sweet, everybody loves me s*hit. I like some of Taylor's music, but it's countless examples of things like this that really irk me.

Not defending Taylor here (she definitely should have stayed out of the situation), but I just wanted to point out I'm pretty sure her second tweet (the "come on stage with me if I win" one) was a response to all the tweets Nicki was retweeting from her fans saying she should pull a Kanye on Taylor. Taylor's tweet does come across as condescending, but Nicki's retweets weren't helping.

I'm so sweet, everybody loves me s*hit. I like some of Taylor's music, but it's countless examples of things like this that really irk me. I'm always baffled by how so many people think she comes across as "sweet" or "normal". I think she is an extremely smart business woman and musically talented, but "sweet" and "normal" are never words I would use to describe her. She is great to her fans... awesome. But it just seems like the right thing to do to give back to those who give you so much support. And most of her music in itself is not sweet. What about the very public figures that the public will inevitably learn those songs are about? Regardless of the songs being autobiographical and very real, these songs inevitably will tarnish a positive image of that person in some way. Is it wrong to do? Not at all. But is writing a song like "Bad Blood" (Katy) or "Dear John" (John) or "I Know You Were Trouble" (Harry) the doings of the world's sweetheart? Debatable. Also, the girl throws shade but when it's thrown her way she plays the victim card. She's been like this since she got that terrible review of her Grammy performance and penned "Mean" as a result (such a "sweet" song - I know, this was 5 years ago...) And she's "normal"? Eh, no. Especially not this era. The way she dresses, always done up. It was nice when she used to seem to be close to her band, dancers, etc. But now it's models, artists and - just recently - the US women's soccer team (what timing!) And I do like her music - all of it, actually - and I admire her business strategies, but Taylor seems to contradict a perception of "sweet" and "normal" that so many people label her (and that she seems to label herself as) and it seems exhausted. None of what she is doing is wrong or bad or anything like that, in fact, I would say it is even expected from celebrities. But I feel like she would come across as a lot more authentic if she just embraced it instead of attempting to showcase herself as something she is not.

But I feel like she would come across as a lot more authentic if she just embraced it instead of attempting to showcase herself as something she is not. That's my point though- and particularly what I was getting at when I said she's revealing herself as "the devil in sheep's clothing" indeed. Of course only dating celebrity men, only partying with models, and buying the publishing rights to a term as fucking generic as "this sick beat!" isn't normal. And the constant subliminals she sends to other acts isn't at all nice. She's savvy as hell though. She knows that keeping all of that in check during her interviews (with a few "humble" giggles thrown in for good measure), ensuring her awards show dresses remain PG, and writing a few words on social media about loving her fans is just enough to hold on to that "regular girl you can relate to" image. But she's becoming too big for her britches and the cracks are beginning to show. I agree that she just needs to own up to it at this point or else there's going to be one hell of an unraveling in time.
