My station played Train right up until "Ordinary". And now I hear them on Classic Hits stations. I've never heard of that song. Give it a listen, it kicks ass it's by far their rockiest offering. "Long Way Down" is pretty much the only Goo Goos song I'd let slide on rock radio these days. Maybe "Lazy Eye" too.

Train charted on... Active? lol This makes me realize that the current generation would never know that Train, Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox Twenty and Alanis Morissette were once considered rock artists. Even at the time I thought they were too wimpy for rock radio... Amen. Also, I think my favourite chart aspect about Matchbox Twenty is that this one was a top 10 on active, but never even went top 40 on alternative. I'm not sure if I'm part of the "current generation". And I've never heard "Free", their biggest rock hit. I knew "Drops" did something, but #11? Damn, I thought like the 30-s. Hell, The Fray charted in the low 30s. My station played Train right up until "Ordinary". And now I hear them on Classic Hits stations. My rock station also played the hell out of "Ordinary". It still plays "Drops Of Jupiter" from time to time, which is scary since it's primarily a classic rock station.

What about Back 2 Good, Real World?

BB Mainstream RockLong Day: #8 Push: #4 3 A.M.: #2 Real World: #17 Bent: #24 BB AltPush: #1 3 A.M.: #3 Real World: #13 Bent: #16 As was the case Pipa pointed out with Train, Matchbox Twenty continued to get rock airplay in Canada through "Disease", which was the last song of theirs I know my rock station played anyway. I'm actually a bit surprised it never at least touched the top 40 on either rock chart in the U.S. considering it was their most rock-friendly single since the first album. "Back 2 Good" was pop-only.

So this has surprisingly really grown on me. It's happened before where a song I seriously dislike all of a sudden does a 180 and I start to like it, I'm just shocked that this is one of them.

I like this, but the reggae rap and the pop chorus don't really go together imo. I could totally see a pop crossover soon since summer is nearing its end.

Yeah this might actually crossover. And August-September is a good time, considering the "my sweet summer is gone" part.

This song has really grown on me. I still prefer their Cabin By The Sea album, but this song is quite catchy. I think "Sound of Change" could be a potential HUGE hit for them. I could see it going #1 on Alternative, and even crossing over to Pop and Hot AC. "Franco Eyed" is my favorite on the album though.

I don't particularly mind this song, but I'm not sure if I want to see it at #1. Doesn't really sound like a #1 to me.

I don't get it either. Over the last year or two, songs that you wouldn't think would come close to charting on Active end up doing somewhat decently on there. Active stations in markets where there are no alt stations need to include some alt songs in their rotations to avoid losing audience to HAC stations I guess. Just goes to show how much rock music has declined. There just haven't been enough good new rock bands to replace the aging generation of bands that were big a decade ago, therefore they have to cling onto the music those bands still produce, and although alot of it is still pretty solid, it's nowhere near as good as it was last decade. I was thinking about this today as well. Rock radio is declining because of the older rock bands that just need to go away. It does not help that there seems to be an anti-social element to rock music that separates itself from the other genres. The Black Keys are one of the rare few that have tried to keep rock rock without going overboard as well as Arctic Monkeys. But A7x, KoRn, Disturbed need to put it away. However the metal heads request their songs to be played as well as the over 30(which I am) age group of men. That is why you still hear a lot of Metallica and Staind on those stations. But with the "white trash" labeling rock music is getting I don't think putting a alt song on there is gonna bring the pop crowd over(or the hipsters/alt crowd).

I'm tolerating "Riptide", "I Wanna Get Better"(before the inevitable blow up), and "Dangerous" atm this is just a song I will turn the channel on when it comes on. It is just completely the opposite of rock, it is not even Indy Pop or Folk Rock.

I think "Franco Eyed" is the best song on the album. I think it sounds the most like their old stuff, I love it.

If "The Sound of Change" is single #2, I can see them getting another top 5 hit! I'm glad they're not a one-hit wonder top 10 band anymore!

Even though it wouldn't be the first choice for the next single, I have to admit that "Sound of Change" sounds like a mega alt hit waiting, and maybe even a Pop crossover.
