In a perfect world it would be Johnny Horton , Tanya Tucker & Keith Whitley for me. But will probably be Alan Jackson , Dottie West and some behind the scenes guy nobodys ever heard of. Id also be happy to see Hanke Jr , Johnny Paycheck or Ricky Skaggs get in sometime soon.

Damn fine class this year! I had Don as a potential candidate on my personal list I keep but wasn't expecting him for another few cycles at least. Happy for him!!
And Jerry Reed is so so deserving and a little over due!

All three are very well deserved. Alan was expected, but it's definitely time for him. Don Schlitz is a master songwriter - one of the best of the 80s and 90s. Great work this year.

I am so happy for Alan but it does make me feel old. I remember when I was 10 or 11 and saw him performing on the ACMs as the Best New Male Artist nominee and singing "Don't Rock the Jukebox" back when the ACMs had the new artist nominees film their performance in some remote location around town. Now he's in the hall of Fame as a legend.

Seeing since Alan Jackson just got inducted and Garth Brooks is already in, I wonder if the other two big members from the Class of 1989 will get in, Clint Black and Travis Tritt.

They'll get in eventually but I think for the modern era there's bigger names than either of them still left to go. Dwight Yoakam, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, Brooks & Dunn, John Anderson, Martina McBride, Crystal Gayle, Ricky Skaggs, The Judds, Patty Loveless, Trisha Yearwood, and Rosanne Cash all should make it in before them. I'd even make an argument for Marty Stuart or Rodney Crowell. That's about 10 years of nominees which would mean artists like Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Rascal Flatts, Dierks Bentley, Luke Bryan, Miranda Lambert, Taylor Swift, and Little Big Town will all be eligible. Not saying they all should get in before Clint or Travis just that they become competition once they are eligible. The Veteran category should get 2 inductees a year. Do a living and a deceased artist. That wouldn't speed things up too much and would help get some really deserving names in while also letting them induct people before they pass.

I'm surprised that I saw no discussion about this, but I wanted to send congratulations to Ricky Skaggs, Dottie West and Johnny Gimble for being the newest inductees and Class of 2018 for the Country Music Hall Of Fame.

Thank you for acknowledging this year's trio of great talent. I forgot this thread existed. I hope K.S. can update it soon.

I wonder when the time comes will the Dixie Chicks be in the HOF or will they keep them out. Surely they are deserving.

I wonder when the time comes will the Dixie Chicks be in the HOF or will they keep them out. Surely they are deserving. I think they will get in at some point, but I would guess that they are at least 25 years off. 10 years for the backlog to catch up to their era (approx.) and then a minimum of 15 years for controversy. People who are important to the genre but controversial get in eventually, but they have a significant delay in comparison to others. Plus, the hall seems to focus more on long-lasting careers rather than great artists who went away fast, no matter how important their song catalog is. This would be one of the factors why The Judds, Keith Whitley, and Johnny Horton have not been inducted yet.

I’m really hoping Skeeter Davis, Rose Maddox, Johnny Horton or Jerry Lee Lewis are going to be the next few in the veterans category because they’re way overdue. I’d also say David Houston.
I’m still wondering how long they can justifiably keep Hank Jr. out.

I’m hoping Crystal Gayle gets her due soon. Although I never met her, she graduated from the same high school as me. I saw her at an Opry Country Classics show a few years ago when she was the spotlight artist. This was about a half year before she was invited to become an Opry member.

She's another who I'd love to see make it in soon. There's just so many who deserve it really. But I don't think they should do more than 3 a year, I like their system. Maybe do another big year like in 2001 but for the most part keep it 3.

Ricky Skaggs, Dottie West, and Johnny Gimble were officially inducted over the weekend.. So looking ahead towards the 2019 inductee announcement in March...who are the frontrunners?
I'd guess in the Modern Era, some of the biggest names not in right now:
1. Dwight Yoakam 2. Brooks & Dunn 3. The Judds 4. Marty Stuart 5. Clint Black
In the Veterans Era, things are a little more wide open.. Some possibilities:
1. Hank Williams, Jr. 2. Jerry Lee Lewis 3. Lynn Anderson 4. Johnny Horton 5. Tanya Tucker
What other artists are likely to be inducted soon?

I think they'll put Tim McGraw in sometime very soon via the Modern Era category.

I think Tim McGraw, The Judds, Brooks & Dunn, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride and Faith Hill are all possible modern artist contenders in the next 5-10 years. Possibly Clint Black and Patty Loveless, as well.

I think Tim McGraw's radio career will have to slow down before they will consider him (just a guess). I figure with Ricky Skaggs in now, that will be some pull to get Keith Whitley inducted in the next couple years. I'm sure Brooks & Dunn will be in the couple of years. I would love to see Eck Robertson get in the Veteran's category, but I highly doubt it would happen. And I also support the idea of Clint Black getting in, I just don't think he gets talked about now or have his songs played as much as some other 90's artists.

Modern Era definitely Tim McGraw or Brooks & Dunn. Others they could consider not mentioned yet for modern era are Travis Tritt, Tracy Lawrence, Sawyer Brown, Diamond Rio and Kathy Mattea. Veterans Era I’d go with Earl Thomas Conley hands down! Also Keith Whitley needs to be in as well someday!

I think you're probably right about Tim, I don't think they induct artist's that are still having hit songs. I think him and Kenny Chesney will both be inducted as soon as their careers start to slow down.

But that’s the exception, not the rule.

But that’s the exception, not the rule. You're right. After She Let Herself Go peaked at #1 in early 2006, it was announced that George Strait would go into the Country Music Hall of Fame. His major hits after that announcement are: 1. The Seashores Of Old Mexico-2006-#11 2. Give It Away-2006-#1 3. It Just Comes Natural-2007-#1 4. Wrapped-2007-#2 5. How 'Bout Them Cowgirls-2007-#3 6. Shiftwork-with Kenny Chesney-2008-#2 7. I Saw God Today-2008-#1 8. Troubadour-2008-#7 9. River Of Love-2009-#1 10. Living For The Night-2009-#2 11. Twang-2010-#14 12. I Gotta Get To You-2010-#3 13. The Breath You Take-2011-#6 14. Here For A Good Time-2011-#2 15. Love's Gonna Make It Alright-2012-#3 16. Give It All We Got Tonight-2013-#2 17. I Got A Car-2014-#17 I would buy that CD if MCA would release it.

Any chance Woody Guthrie gets in at some point? Although I figure that would be an interesting choice, I would guess there is limited chance of it. Woody was always more in the folk music lane than he was in the country music one. (To be perfectly honest, I sometimes have trouble discerning the lines between folk, country and now Americana.)
