This week's Billboard's Country Update (p.2) says the 2020 inductees would be revealed in a month or so. Great news! We deserve to have a Class of 2020. I can't wait to find out who the inductees are.

I guess if I had to choose (and there are a lot of deserving people to choose from), I would say Maddox Brothers and Rose for veteran and The Judds for modern.

Veteran has to be from these picks (Especially after Ray got in last year...) Maddox Bros. & Rose (Had the spotlight reshown on them from the Country Music documentary) Hank Williams Jr. (They need to just get it overwith and get him in now, it's beyond time) Tanya Tucker (She had an outstanding year so I can see them pushing for her now)
HM: Lynn Anderson, Johnny Horton, June Carter Cash, Crystal Gayle, Jerry Lee Lewis
Modern: Dwight Yoakam (Easy pick considering his contemporaries have got in and he's the next big name from his time...) The Judds (...or they are also in that boat for big names from the period!) Marty Stuart (Given all he does for preserving and representing country music he's a shoe in sooner rather than later.
HM: John Anderson, Kenny Chesney, Travis Tritt, Rosanne Cash, Tim McGraw, Martina McBride
There's still tons for both categories but those are the names I think have the best shots. Then again Ray Stevens wasn't on my radar at all and he's in now.
If I were picking Hank Jr. & Dwight get it this year.
They need one year of letting in like 5 for each category again, they have a big log jam waiting to get in.

I’m really interested to see who they announce this year...just as much as I’m wondering how they’ll do the ceremony.

For the classic era I hope Crystal Gayle or Hank Williams Jr. get in . These two are long overdue. For the modern era I pick Clint Black or Judds Songwriter i pick Paul Overstreet.

Both of those lists are great, but I would currently trade Lynn Anderson for the Stanley Brothers/Ralph Stanley in veteran, and I'd trade Kenny Chesney for Keith Whitley in modern.

Oh yes Tompall & The Glaser Brothers should be in as well by now, I feel like they've gotta be nearing the top of the list soon! Veteran has to be from these picks (Especially after Ray got in last year...) Maddox Bros. & Rose (Had the spotlight reshown on them from the Country Music documentary) Hank Williams Jr. (They need to just get it overwith and get him in now, it's beyond time) Tanya Tucker (She had an outstanding year so I can see them pushing for her now) HM: Lynn Anderson, Johnny Horton, June Carter Cash, Crystal Gayle, Jerry Lee Lewis Modern: Dwight Yoakam (Easy pick considering his contemporaries have got in and he's the next big name from his time...) Both of those lists are great, but I would currently trade Lynn Anderson for the Stanley Brothers/Ralph Stanley in veteran, and I'd trade Kenny Chesney for Keith Whitley in modern. Ralph is in the second tier of honourable mentions for me personally if only because his influence is more in Bluegrass but he and his brother should be in in the next decade for sure. Their importance is not lost on me! As for Keith, I do think he has a place in the Hall eventually, but given his short career I have to weigh that against others work for my personal list. Keith > Kenny for me, but there's no denying Kenny's place either and of the artists who started in the 90's I think Kenny will be the second to get in (Following Brooks & Dunn)*. * Alan Jackson, Vince Gill, Garth Brooks all started in the 80's though the majority of their work is in the 90's...I guess B&D kinda started in the 80's but as a duo they only began in the 90's.

Tanya Tucker bc she had a grammy winning comeback this year.
And a whole bunch of those women, so many from way back and now into the 90s. They need to get those women in there.
I think the Country Hall of Fame and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should do strictly female inductees this year. Send a message. Put way more than 3 in and catch up!
These women should already be in
June Carter Cash Tanya Tucker Lynn Anderson Olivia Newton John Anne Murray Rosanne Cash Linda Ronstadt K.T. Oslin Jeannie C. Riley
Then these 80s/90s who are deserving!
Mary Chapin Carpenter Kathy Mattea Trisha Yearwood The Judds Allison Krauss Patty Loveless Martina McBride
Perhaps?
Jo Dee Messina Pam Tillis Lorrie Morgan

After the news of the death of Charlie Daniels yesterday, I decided to look up how many living members of the Country Music Hall of Fame there currently are. As of July 7th, 2020...the are 43.
Here they are, listed with their current ages and the year they were inducted:
EW "Bud" Wendell (92) - 1998 Loretta Lynn (88) - 1988 Ralph Emery (87) - 2007 Willie Nelson (87) - 1993 Ray Walker (86) - 2001 Charley Pride (86) - 2000 Bobby Bare (85) - 2013 Tom T. Hall (84) - 2008 Kris Kristofferson (84) - 2004 Don Everly (83) - 2001 Bill Anderson (82) - 2001 Hargus "Pig" Robbins (82) - 2012 William Lee Golden (81) - 2015 Ray Stevens (81) - 2019 Phil Balsley (80) - 2008 Jerry Bradley (80) - 2019 Bobby Braddock (79) - 2011 Charlie McCoy (79) - 2009 Connie Smith (78) - 2012 Ronnie Milsap (77) - 2014 Richard Sterban (77) - 2015 Duane Allen (77) - 2015 Brenda Lee (75) - 1997 Don Reid (75) - 2008 Dolly Parton (74) - 1999 Emmylou Harris (73) - 2008 Joe Bonsall (72) - 2015 Barbara Mandrell (71) - 2009 Jeff Cook (70) - 2005 Randy Owen (70) - 2005 Teddy Gentry (68) - 2005 George Strait (68) - 2006 Don Schlitz (67) - 2017 Ronnie Dunn (67) - 2019 Ricky Skaggs (65) - 2018 Jimmy Fortune (65) - 2008 Reba McEntire (65) - 2011 Mark Herndon (65) - 2005 Kix Brooks (65) - 2019 Vince Gill (63) - 2007 Alan Jackson (61) - 2017 Randy Travis (61) - 2016 Garth Brooks (58) - 2012

How did Vince Gill get in so quick? Of course he is deserving but Toby Keith for example was a much bigger star in the 90’s & 2000’s.

To me it makes plenty of sense for him to be inducted alongside people who became big stars in the '80s, like George and Reba and Randy. Other than Alan and Brooks & Dunn, the people who hit big in the '90s haven't started being inducted yet (And they're both on the older end of '90s artists, so they're similar in age to those who hit big in the '80s.) Plus Vince has always done SOOOO much behind-the-scenes in the industry, between his songwriting and guitar playing and producing and background vocalizing and awards show hosting for the past 35 years, I'm not at all surprised to see him in by now!

But Vince’s first big hit didn’t come until 1990 with “when I call your name”. Toby’s “Should’ve been a cowboy” was 1993. Vince has sold 26 million albums / Toby 40 million Vince has had 6 #1’s / Toby 22 # 1’s It’s just strange to me that was inducted way back in 2007. Dwight Yoakam has sold 25 million albums and just like Gill has 6 # 1’s and has acted in a bunch of movies 🤷♂️

Both Keith and Yoakam have positioned themselves as outsiders to some extent to the Nashville Country industry.. And I think that gave Vince Gill the edge with the Hall voters within the CMA.. He's definitely been much more involved and...present than most over his career. Because yeah, I 100% it was probably a little early. He was only, what, 50 years old when he was inducted? That's pretty incredibly considering how late in life some of these artists are when Hall Voters finally let them in. He was in before Don Williams, Reba, Garth, Kenny Rogers, Ronnie Milsap, and Randy Travis.. Voting unfortunately isn't as purely on the merit of an artist's accomplishments as it should be..

This week's Billboard's Country Update (p.2) says the 2020 inductees would be revealed in a month or so. Well, we seem to have passed this time limit. It's probably due to them being closed another month. If they decide to open in August, then in the next couple weeks they should (hopefully) set the date for inductee announcements. I am sure that I'm getting very ahead of myself, but I'm trying to be opitimistic. I don't like the idea of them permanently extending the number of inductees, but it would be great if they chose 4 inductees this year because of the massive delay. If that imaginary scenario were to happen, I'd go with: Hank Jr. and Maddox Brothers And Rose for veteran//The Judds and Keith Whitley for modern. I love Tanya, but I feel Hank Jr., Maddox Brothers & Rose and the Stanley Brothers should get in before her.

All right @jacobl18, what are the six #1s Dwight Yoakam has had? I only count two: Streets Of Bakersfield with Buck Owens (1988) and I Sang Dixie (1989). He's had three #2s in 1993: Ain't That Lonely Yet, A Thousand Miles From Nowhere, and Fast As You.

I understand he gets credit but there is definitely a difference.

"The Heart Won't Lie" is a full-fledged duet, where he sings just as much as Reba. I could see excluding "Sober Saturday Night" though. It's super random that he is given credit for that one, but not for something like Sara's "No Place That Far" or Faith's "Let Me Let Go" where he is arguably even more prominent

I sure did! There is really are too many! My grandma loved her. It took Crystal over 40 years to become a member of the Opry, so I’m sure she’ll have to wait just as long to be inducted into the HOF. Haha. I’d say Crystal’s primary claim to HOF status is that she’s the first female in country music history to have a platinum-certified album.

With such a backlog of artists from last century yet to be admitted, I wonder how long it will take for artists that have become successful this century to gain entry. It also makes me wonder which artists that emerged in the 2000s will be considered worthy of this honor. Even though acts like (but not limited to) Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean or Florida Georgia Line have garnered awards along with their chart successes, whose careers among 21st Century artists are enduring enough to be Hall of Fame caliber?
